This is perfect as a gift for my daughter. She's getting into content creation too, and asked for an RGB light. I want to help her out, but don't want to break the bank and the Ulanzi stuff I've picked up has been holding up well. Thanks!
I'm honest in all my videos, and I have to say the Ulanzi gear I have and have had for quite a while is holding up great, it's built so well and is so functional I'm more than happy to recommend it. Thanks for dropping by, all the best of luck to your daughter! Tell her never to give up 🔥
Well, both are okay if it's dark and you're using them as effects lights, but as a key, it might be a little hard, unless you bump the iso and use a longer shutter if you're taking photos.
Great video man! did feel for you whe you said "if youve switched off by now, dont blame you".. not at all. superb and very very informative video! exactly the review i was after. yes, the battery life bums me out, but YES, the fact it has such an array of colours and white lighting differences, is a major plus fr me and the best part, it can be used with the mains! i will be ordering one of these right now. keep up the great work and dont do what you're clearly doing already and doubting yourself! a very natural and professional video mate :D
Thank You! haha, I see the analytics and I know most people don't watch till the end. It's part of being a RUclipsr, I think I might start leaving my card details at the end of videos for people to watch all the way to the end 😂 It's okay, it's not something that bothers me, just my English humour. Anyway, this light is excellent, I really like it. I used it the other day for hours on my whiskey video and had it plugged into the powerbank which is a great option. The colours are very vivid and the daylight is nice and bright for such a small light source. Build quality is solid and the price is a steal. I highly recommend it! Thank You for the support, it really does mean a lot to me.
This seems to be just perfect, especially that increase of kelvin in tens instead of hundreds! Planning to have it for extreme macro videography/photography to supplement lights around. It can be between 2700-7500K here as in our monsoon season it's 99% overcast for like 2-3 months straight. Having that very wide range CCT is critical, and having it bright enough is also pretty good. 2 hours of 100% brightness is quite impressive, and I always carry a 10,000mAh powerbank or larger so no issues. Might grab 2-3 of these.
Hi i just wanna know that i have iphone 11 and at night i have to shoot my vlog specially at there where is all the darkness my camera quality is very poor with only phone if i use it on 1x will it be perfect and if i use it in 0.5x will it be perfect thank u
Does this one have like steady mode? Like the part of the video you showing the colour? Can you pick colour and only used that ? Like if i wanted pink , just pink
Could you tell us if you notice any kind of flickering in high shutter speeds? It's something that can really matter when you want to shoot in higher than 24-30 fps. Thanks!
Thanks for the reply, they seem to be great lights for the money indeed but the specs are all over the place with most of their models and its kind of hard to choose the best one for my needs, from the box I understood that the vl49rgb is hsi but it seems to lack saturation control, vl61 seems to have that butwith different led and power so I think that im gonna settle for the vl120 since the vl196 that you also reviewd cant be found anywhere in stock in my country...
Hey there Phillip! Hope everything's alright there. Just wanna ask how does this light compare to the Aputure MC when it comes to output (in both CCT and RGB mode), because from specs, the Aputure MC is 400 lux at 0.5 meter and the ULanzi VL49 is 800 lux at 0.5 meter. Theoretically, the Ulanzi should be brighter, but perhaps i wonder how they compare in real life brightness? (Because the advertised lux can easily be gamed to their advantage)
Thanks a lot for letting me know there is magnet at the back. BTW, there is one more feature you havent show. Press button two times and you get 'cop car'. Lights are blinking red and blue.
You're welcome, and thanks for honesty! Well, it's quite a small light, it's not really meant to light a wall, rather an object, and I'd say a pretty small one. It's good as an accent light for product photography for example.
For a background light it's okay but facing the camera or on a shelf maybe, but if you want to light the background I'd go for something with a little more kick to it 🔥
I'd go with the VL196 in that case, however, if you had two of these you could shine them in different directions, it really depends on what you're lighting.
I didn't actually measure it as it's such a small light. I wouldn't say it's any more than 100lux @1m. It's great for lighting in the background or small product photography shots.
I used mine for about a year and threw it in a box, but not due to it not working, just the sheer volume of lights I have, I started using more advanced ones in the studio.
Thanks for the review nicely done as well. I was wondering does the light flicker at all when you put your ISO and shutter speed very low because I do stopmotion and I struggle to find lights that do not flicker
@@PhillipSkraba thank you for getting back to me would you mind putting your camera at ISO 50 and shutter speed at 1/1000 and see if the Ulanzi Vl49 flickers. Those are the setting I use on my iPhone for stopmotion just because it allows me to get rid of grain in the iPhone camera
@@MintyBricks I don’t know anything about photography/video lights but I know a few things about how leds work. Usually the brightness is controlled by PWM, pulse width modulation, which turns the led on and off really fast and the ratio to on vs off is what makes them look a certain brightness to human eyes. So if a light has bright adjust it probably uses PWM and will cause flickering. If you get flicker Try the light at full brightness to see if the controller bypasses PWM. Or find a light that doesn’t use it and just has on/off. use batteries if possible to avoid 60hz mains frequency.
