8:27 THE FACT RED DREW THE SNAKE FOLDED UP INTO A BALLOON DOG. This might be Red's best episode yet, which is an insanely high bar, but between the amount covered, the visual gags, and the classic tropes we know & love....this is the greatest holiday gift of all time.
I don't know what's more surprising. That Pigsy can transform into a 30 story boar or the Dragon Horse having a humanoid form. Actually, I do. It's the horse.
The horse did transform into a dancer (dancing girl?) before some episodes back to trick a demon but got found out and had to hide (after being injured on the leg? I think).
@@gokbay3057 He did, but that's somehow different (atleast to me)? It was a girl and just simpler to assume that it was some random form/someone who already existed and here was just... Boom, a human form! Because you can't argue while being a horse! Also, the way Red drew him with dragon features really made it seem like this is just the Dragon Horse's normal human form he's had this whole time? IDK, it was just shocking.
I freaking love the visual gags in this one 😂 The snake looking at his belly while Sun is about to rearrange him from the inside, Sun’s expression when realizing he forgot to warn the King about the unimaginable main. The Team asking is Sun is trying to assassinate the king. Masterpieces, all of them

Can we all just take a second to realize how hard a name Jupiters Rival is. That name is so incredibly cool. Also Red saying “Horse Piss” does something for me, so funny. 11:26
If the real Jupiter aka Zeus from his perch on Mt Olympus saw the Queen in her cell and made an attempt, I imagine that Hera would die laughing when Zeus suffered agonizing pain from touching her.
I love this episode, especially the three different types of demons. They show all different flavors of antagonists. The Eyebrow guy is actively malevolent, deliberately being as evil as possible. The dude stole from Budai of all people, which is like stealing from Santa Claus. He’s the mustache-Torino pure evil guy having fun being evil. The demon snake is more like a man-eating animal or force of nature. It is a dangerous to everyone around it and needs to be put down to keep everyone safe, but it isn’t actively malicious. It’s just acting on instinct and has enough power to add people to its menu. It doesn’t intend to be evil but it eating people means it has to be exterminated. Jupiter’s Rival is a sympathetic villain that fits the anti-villain trope. In his own head he’s a hero or anti-hero’s but his methods are just villainous enough to tip him into anti-villain status. The king was the one who was supposed to be punished. Why is he trying to seduce the queen and stealing innocent girls to be servants? If his goal was just to punish the king with three years of loneliness and separation, why not kidnap the king instead of the queen? His methods and extra actions tips him into villainy but Jupiter’s Rival isn’t trying to be a villain. He wants to be a hero. He’s just doing it the wrong way.
@@annekeener4119 the king's arrow killed the female peacock while only hurting the male one. And the aforementioned curse is that the king would suffer from similar separation for three years. If the golden hound abduct the king instead, he would cease to be king, and the curse won't be fulfilled.
Jupiter is a kidnapper and (hopefully only attempted) rapist, so I wouldn't call him sympathetic or an anti-villain. He's just a villain who tries to hide behind someone else's revenge plot.
Journey to the West is just ancient Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. All these villain-of-the-week enemies with occasional big bad bosses, and the heroes getting conditional powerups and situational help from others. Stands are the only missing piece.
WOO(kong)! More Journey! The extended story beat about dragon-horse piss was not expected, but very amusing. That this "medicine" also first had to catastrophically unstick the King's insides was also god damn hysterical. Like, I would love to see that more in movies. The magic "cure all" also happens to require an hour of screaming and crying (and not just from the patient) but it DOES work!
Started watching this in middle school, I read the book in 9th grade, I'm in 3rd-year university now and I'm gonna be an old man by the time this finishes. But god damn, everytime this series comes back around its like seeing old friends.
Yeah, Red's Journey to the West videos have added SO MUCH CONTEXT to that game for my husband and me. Like, we didn't *need* to know the myth backgrounds for the plot, it was fun anyway, but boy howdy is it nice knowing those backgrounds.
This was definitely one of the best episodes so far! The puns! The background gags! It was great! But not just that, we're really getting into the point where the group actually listens more to each other. And the trials they are facing are either A) just little things that take a quick fix - like a demon beat down and turning Pigsy huge- or B) incredibly complicated -like a king who needs a miracle pill because he's so constipated from anxiety after his wife was kidnapped for 3 years by a wolf who thinks he's the Punisher. "I mean c'mon, this is only Chapter 65"
Oh man, did monkey just help a guy out without getting anything in return? They could already keep going on their trip, is monkey *gasp* having character development?!
Fun facts:The main villain of that arc's full name is "yellow browed old buddha." The Buddha which helped wukong caputure yellow brow is acually matreiya, the buddha of the future and succesor of the main Buddha of thunderclap. Wukong while helping the king needed to also find a heart,so he decieded to rip out 16 of his different hearts(yes he has 16 lol) The 3 demon king's bells are as old as the universe. The peacock Queen is actually Buddha's mother in name, and is related to a major demon who will appear later in the story.

"Don't fret, Pig," called Monkey from inside the monster's belly, which he was poking around with his cudgel. "I'll make it into a bridge. Watch!" As he spoke the monster arched its back just like a rainbow−shaped bridge. "It looks like a bridge all right," Pig shouted, "but nobody would ever dare cross it." "Then I'll make it turn into a boat," said Monkey. "Watch!" He pushed out the skin of the monster's belly with his cudgel, and with the skin against the ground and its head uplifted it did look like a river boat. "It may look like a boat," said Pig, "but without a mast or sail it wouldn't sail very well in the wind." "Get out of the way then," said Monkey, "and I'll make it sail for you." He then jabbed his cudgel out as hard as he could through the monster's spine from the inside and made it stand some sixty or seventy feet high, just like a mast. its lifted directly out of the book too (though i think red uses a different translation)
Sun Wukong is fun and all, but I live for those few times the rest of the crew get to do stuff. Pigs being a kaiju all along but only if he's hungry that day is hilarious
Sun Wukong is really just showing off at this point. Strength _and_ wisdom? And a dragon horse bestie with super magical divine pee? But let's not forget about Pigsy; I'm glad he finally got to use his True Form, the most hallowed trope in shounen anime

ive had to learn the journey to the west story like 800 times since i grew up in a variety of chinese schools, and yet not a single time do they actually showcase the absolute cinema of its storytelling! it also seems very fitting that the best solution to clear out a valley of rotting persimmons is a 30-story tall kaiju pig (thanks pigsy!)
The amount of effort put into these frames is so impressive, they each look like you could screenshot them and turn them into a poster!! No wonder these episodes take a while with the research, script writing, AND gorgeous visuals
I love finding where Dragon Ball put the different bits of Journey to the West. A fake destination clearly becomes Fake Namek, a honking big evil Snake is Snake Princess, and Vejito gets eaten by Gohan Buu to the latter's regret.
19:41 I'm not sure what the book says exactly but there is a interpretation of this not being Monkey forgetting about it but, intentionally letting the king feel it once. This is done to protect the queen from retribution after potentially being *REDACTED* by the demon, which at that time would make her lose her status and potentially her life. Having the king feel it once proves that this is impossible.
I love the attention to detail that as the journey progresses to the west, the gods and people shown are more inspired by indian and Middle Eastern styles! Showing the progress of the journey

finally someone else talks about the rap battle! I tried reading JTTW once before and that part was so funny I tell it to all my friends when the novel is mentioned
This is what we in the business call "missed opportunity forshadowing"
As someone who just had brain surgery to make sure he could keep living, I just want to lay down a million thanks OSP! You have been so big to me over the years and the fact that seeing this video brought me to literal tears is definitely a big deal. So much love, care, and everything I can send your way team!!!
That was hysterical
oh that's what those mounds were.
Definitely lost it when I saw that x3 he totally would do that
Monkey's one-liners are chef's kiss in this one, every single one of them.
I am going to rewatch this so many times! 😂
I don't know what's more surprising. That Pigsy can transform into a 30 story boar or the Dragon Horse having a humanoid form. Actually, I do. It's the horse.
I am of the opinion that the dragon is a furry and just prefers being an animal.
@kalina5823It does make me wonder. Have the demons just been putting him in a stable?
It's been YEARS since we saw the horse pull the human form out! I almost forgot about that thing too! XD
Sun Wukong taking off the head mirror and saying he's multidisciplinary goes so hard
“Looks like you have an iron deficiency! Now HOLD STILL!”
“Mountains are full of problems, punching them is the solution.” Most badass quote from this channel.
Idk the one vid about the spartans had some cool one liners
Red was forced to draw a waterfall of horse water for this episode. We salute your brave sacrifice
I freaking love the visual gags in this one 😂 The snake looking at his belly while Sun is about to rearrange him from the inside, Sun’s expression when realizing he forgot to warn the King about the unimaginable main. The Team asking is Sun is trying to assassinate the king.
Masterpieces, all of them
Micheal Keaton’s Batman has the signature move of getting shot in the chest, playing dead, then jumping up and punching the guy. Sun WuKong’s signature move is getting eaten then punching the guy from the inside. Both bold, both work way more than they should
That's why Batman wears a giant bat shaped bullseye on his chest. He's got a Kevlar plate behind it. lol
18:01 Son gendering the bells and making them a girlboss is the greatest thing I've heard this year.
he did the same thing to another object when he pulled this same trick, iirc it is before this one journey
The fact that when the Laughing Buddha rocks up the Dragon Ball music is playing is just perfect.
I always love that Sun respects Quan Yin. Love when chaotic characters have limits and respect people
I always got a "mother and son" vibe from them
Its more so respect out of fear since she controls the fillet on his head
@@Strivfer Nah, he clearly respects her personally. They haven't had to threaten him with headaches for ages.
@Healermain15 Hell, the last headache was entirely collateral for the impostor thing. He didn't even do anything wrong. Well, aside from the murders before that whole fiasco... Actually, he got punished for the murders so... Yeah. But hey! That's a Tripataca thing, not Quan Yin.
11:38 I guess you can lead a dragon-horse to water, but you can't make it piss
unhinged comment
@wooferchewbone6166 Thank you! 😄
I have no idea how she does it but everytime I think the next episode can't be of even better quality, Red outdoes herself every time. Incredible!
Wait wait wait so this is part 12 so how many parts can she do after is she halfway, quarter way or almost fully done
Me: Oh new OSP, it’s a Red week I think, yeah I’ll check it out
Me:…. JOURNEY TO THE WEST??!
Will We finally see the end of this Incredible Journey?
Will Son Wukong finally stop making problems (and solving them) every episode?
We will find out....
In the Next Episode of!
THE JOURNEY TO THE WEST
This is literally my Christmas tradition
Can we all just take a second to realize how hard a name Jupiters Rival is. That name is so incredibly cool.
Also Red saying “Horse Piss” does something for me, so funny. 11:26
If the real Jupiter aka Zeus from his perch on Mt Olympus saw the Queen in her cell and made an attempt, I imagine that Hera would die laughing when Zeus suffered agonizing pain from touching her.
i love the fact that this episode is 20 minutes and 24 seconds long, 20:24, 2024.
That’s dope any not at all intentional
damn, you got the extended version?
Red please confirm was this intentional
I forgive e you.

"His heavenly piss is so magical that-"
I CANT
IM DYING
SOMEONE CALL AN AMBULANCE-
this feel more awkward when you remember the Lego version of the horse is like...
And the fucking epic fmab music too 😂😂😂
Call the ambulance, call the ambulance!
BUT NOT FOR ME.
(This guy needs it more, I'm still dying of laughter (like King Martin of Aragon))
Wukong: is this another case for doctor monkey?
Heavenly piss, the family friendly version of holy shit
I love how the horse dragon could shapeshift into a person at any point and simply has chosen not to
Wow, Pigsy and the horse were actually useful for once. I never thought I'd see the day.
Still waiting for the day Sandy gets to do something again. Last time was several episodes ago, if I remember correctly.
@@nataliaborys1554 isn't sandy the horse?
@@EllipticalReasoning Nope, sandy is the one with the green beads around his neck (water demon/river demon(?))
Was he stealing girls to be servants, or was he raping them? That significantly changes how evil he is.
@@annekeener4119 the king's arrow killed the female peacock while only hurting the male one. And the aforementioned curse is that the king would suffer from similar separation for three years.
If the golden hound abduct the king instead, he would cease to be king, and the curse won't be fulfilled.
Yellowbrow soundly defeated wukong 3 times
Naturally wukong was depressdd
Jupiter is a kidnapper and (hopefully only attempted) rapist, so I wouldn't call him sympathetic or an anti-villain.
He's just a villain who tries to hide behind someone else's revenge plot.
Hijacking Santa Claus AND having a thing for eyebrows? Where have I heard that before...?
🎵You're a MEAN one, Eyebrow Guy!🎵
Journey to the West is just ancient Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. All these villain-of-the-week enemies with occasional big bad bosses, and the heroes getting conditional powerups and situational help from others. Stands are the only missing piece.
Would the Gods and heavenly allies count as Stands?
Actually part 3 was deliberately modeled after journey to the west
SCREW Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure! Dragon Ball beat it to the punch by 3 years!
"Pigsy, we're gonna need you in your kaiju sized form so you're getting all the food in this zipcode now."
"this is my moment."
He's been training for this very moment for his entire life!
“Not only we had to pay for the guys funeral, we got sued over it as well!” Man I love this book
4:16 Through playing Black Myth Wukong... I remember Yellowbrow and hate him with every fiber of my being.
calling him like a Avatar: the Last Airbender villain sound understanable....
Eyy connection
Yeah, Red's Journey to the West videos have added SO MUCH CONTEXT to that game for my husband and me. Like, we didn't *need* to know the myth backgrounds for the plot, it was fun anyway, but boy howdy is it nice knowing those backgrounds.
Yeah as soon as I saw that sign that said small Thunderclap monastery I realized what was happening that's to that game.
I cannot be the only one who watches a new Journey to the West video and immediately goes on a rewatch binge for next couple days
Sun Wukong’s method of “mountains are full of problems, punching them is the solution” summarizes him so well
been waiting 10 years for this
And I couldn't help but hear that in Gery Oleman's voice.
At least it wasn't 12 yrs in azakaban
@@hollyputvin917 I DID MY WAITING!!
@hollyputvin917 Ik, that was the point of my comment
@Lionstar16 Thank you. I love it when my joke lands and people run with the joke
And he didn't even killed it in the end.
Impossible.
Ah, but he got to show off his absolutely amazing and extraordinary power and skill and have a cool bossfight
Fun facts:The main villain of that arc's full name is "yellow browed old buddha."
The Buddha which helped wukong caputure yellow brow is acually matreiya, the buddha of the future and succesor of the main Buddha of thunderclap.
Wukong while helping the king needed to also find a heart,so he decieded to rip out 16 of his different hearts(yes he has 16 lol)
The 3 demon king's bells are as old as the universe.
The peacock Queen is actually Buddha's mother in name, and is related to a major demon who will appear later in the story.
Someone played the game and read the novel
This might've been the silliest episode yet!
Also, Pain Coat Immortal, Zhang Boduan? A true bro.
First off, oh my gosh, a new Journey to the West?! It's the best Hannukah present I'll get this year!
Secondly 5:26 the Jojo music is *peak*
7:59 "they only pay voice actors for important roles" killed me! The balloon animal joke was a one two punch when I saw the aftermath in the next panel.
God every frame is a masterpiece, comedic or otherwise
8:30 was it folded into a balloon animal? That’s THE best. I love this series.
"Don't fret, Pig," called Monkey from inside the monster's belly, which he was poking around with his cudgel.
"I'll make it into a bridge. Watch!" As he spoke the monster arched its back just like a rainbow−shaped bridge.
"It looks like a bridge all right," Pig shouted, "but nobody would ever dare cross it."
"Then I'll make it turn into a boat," said Monkey. "Watch!" He pushed out the skin of the monster's belly with
his cudgel, and with the skin against the ground and its head uplifted it did look like a river boat.
"It may look like a boat," said Pig, "but without a mast or sail it wouldn't sail very well in the wind."
"Get out of the way then," said Monkey, "and I'll make it sail for you." He then jabbed his cudgel out as hard
as he could through the monster's spine from the inside and made it stand some sixty or seventy feet high, just
like a mast.
its lifted directly out of the book too (though i think red uses a different translation)
Im playing Black Myth Wukong and this pretty much clears up most of chapter 3 and it's amazing how much of the original mythos they were able to integrate into the game!

“Is promptly incapacitated with an absolutely monstrous case of the shits-“ made me spit my drink, I wasn’t prepared for that
This episode is surprisingly legal. Once the most powerful thing in the world is defeated, I guess all that's left are lawyers.
I love how we all collectively excitedly arrive to sit around and listen to a nearly thousand year old story like it's campfire story time.
Just shows how peak Journey to the West is.
ive had to learn the journey to the west story like 800 times since i grew up in a variety of chinese schools, and yet not a single time do they actually showcase the absolute cinema of its storytelling! it also seems very fitting that the best solution to clear out a valley of rotting persimmons is a 30-story tall kaiju pig (thanks pigsy!)
The amount of effort put into these frames is so impressive, they each look like you could screenshot them and turn them into a poster!! No wonder these episodes take a while with the research, script writing, AND gorgeous visuals
- It's December
- Mariah Carrey defrosted
- OSP posts a new episode of Journey to the West
=> Yeah, its Christmas time
- Valve releases the new tf2 comic
I love finding where Dragon Ball put the different bits of Journey to the West. A fake destination clearly becomes Fake Namek, a honking big evil Snake is Snake Princess, and Vejito gets eaten by Gohan Buu to the latter's regret.
19:41
I'm not sure what the book says exactly but there is a interpretation of this not being Monkey forgetting about it but, intentionally letting the king feel it once.
This is done to protect the queen from retribution after potentially being *REDACTED* by the demon, which at that time would make her lose her status and potentially her life. Having the king feel it once proves that this is impossible.
I SCREAMEDDDDDD, WEVE WAITED SO LONGGGG
SAME! Just love watching jttw
this video’s release was the absolute cherry on top for me after finishing my final exams THANK YOU OSP!!!!! YIIPPEEEEEE
I love the attention to detail that as the journey progresses to the west, the gods and people shown are more inspired by indian and Middle Eastern styles! Showing the progress of the journey
To be fair, we're still another 20-ish chapters out from actually reaching India, so this was probably a bit premature all things considered.
While this entire episode is comedic gold the "'I told you so' is going to make it all worth it" is for some reason my favorite line
HAPPY HOLIDAY!! Didn't know we was getting presents early. Side note: I would love to watch Red play Black Myth: Wukong because I actually understood surprisingly a lot of story elements thanks for your series. So with that, Thank you soo much Red .
It’s always a pleasure to get another part to Journey to the West from y’all! And now I know where the Dragon Ball Z anime got the Fake Namek idea.

Hope your day improves or at least chills out!
I love the red snake story. Just to give us word building about how demons develop and grow.
This is easily my favourite episode of this series yet, I laughed out loud at several jokes both due to the story itself and Red’s delivery not to mention the sheer volume of stories told in this one episode. I’d happily wait and watch for this series until my dying days.
See you guys in the comments section of the next episode of…
Journey to the West
The color commentary on every frame makes OSP's version of Sun Wukong the best version of Sun Wukong I've ever had the pleasure of watching.
Sun is IMPRESSIVELY bad at stealth missions... LOL
At this point I feel like he is failing them on purpose to have an excuse to kill things
He's not... But every time the mission is "Stealth is optional" and we all know how that works out.
It is stealth when there are no witnesses left.
Solid Odysseus he is not.
Thank you for such a joyous present!!
I loved how the problem of the kaijuu nope noodle gut punch is followed by an issue commenting about international diplomacy when travelling abroad
YOOOOO ANOTHER JOURNEY TO THE WEST VIDEO AYOO!!!
The horse literally crying with relief at the end absolutely killed me.
Quite honestly some of the best storytelling on this hellspawned platform over the course of a decade now. Many thanks and happy holidays to Red, Blue, Indigo, the OSP extended family, and this lovely fanbase
11:44 the utter look of "wait... you can do that?" is perfect. Also, this entire scenario 😆
Having played Black Myth: Wukong. It is fun to have been playing that game and getting the references due to past episodes of this, and then after reaching a part of the game I didn't understand, coming back to this and getting everything put into context
Me: OH THAT'S WHAT THE CYMBALS WERE ABOUT
I love this series so much. For some reason, it has become a frequent go to when I need something on so I can sleep, so I've rewatched it more times than I can count.
I love how the laughing Buddha is the one the few that go "yeah i get your vibe" to monkey king and do an looney tune bit

I'm just imagining Red in the recording booth going crazy at how many times she had to say the word "piss" and in this particular context lmao
4:17 Black Myth: Wukong's rendition of it as Yellowbrow is pretty snappy
I love the Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood epic shit is happening soundtrack that's playing in the background as the horse explains how sacred his piss is XD
