Question Time Stamps for Quick Reference:
    0:00 Introduction
    1. 0:04 Is there a conflict between being pro-life and pro-death penalty at the same time?
    2. 3:54 Can you address what John means when he says that certain sins lead to death and some do not (1 John 5: 16-17)? Is there evidence in this passage that suggests you can lose your salvation?
    3. 7:37 When, in the research process, do you (1) know you have read enough secondary literature to comment on the topic and (2) become confident enough to share your conclusion with thousands of people?
    4. 12:40 Are there any verses in the Bible where it clearly states or implies that rights (life, liberty, and property) are inalienable and inherently possessed, as opposed to being dependent on self-ownership?
    5. 19:03 God answered Hagar directly. Both her and many others before and after Christ. Do you think God sometimes uses the still small voice today, or only directly through the Scriptures? (Hebrews 1:2)
    6. 24:53 Do you think that macro evolution is consistent with Scripture, since evolution works by death? As sin entered the world through Adam and through sin entered death (Rom 5: 12, Rom 8: 21-22).
    7. 29:06 In 1 Corinthians 14: 22, Paul says tongues are a sign for non-believers and prophecy is a sign for believers. The next verses seem to flip it though. I can't make sense of it but I wondered your take on it.
    8. 32:50 My parents think religion is stupid and I don't want to evangelize to them because they'll judge me and say that I'm stupid. Is that ok, or should I try anyway? If so, how?
    9. 35:47 How would you understand the numbers in Revelation 7: 4? What does it mean by "144,000 were sealed"? Does it mean only 144,000 are faithful Christians?
    10. 41:11 In 2 Peter 2:6, is the example of Sodom & Gomorrah literal? Does it mean that on the final day of judgment the ungodly will literally be condemned to extinction like they were?
    11. 43:58 Is the Athanasian Creed biblical (specifically the first part which seems to imply that one cannot be saved without believing the doctrine of the Trinity)?
    12. 45:53 Is it biblical to say that all temptation comes from Satan and the demonic? Or can temptation also come from your sinful self?
    13. 50:23 Is there biblical support for having monarchies today? What attitude should we have toward monarchy, specifically?
    14. 52:48 What is your view on the Creation account given in Genesis? Some people hold to a young earth, but with modern science, that seems unlikely. Questions then arise such as: did Adam and Eve exist?
    15. 59:22 Were Old Testament believers born-again? Could they be called (during their lives) "children of God" as Christians can be called nowadays?
    16. 1:02:06 Are nerdy hobbies (comics, movies, games, etc.) reconcilable with Christianity? Or should we discard them and use our time in other ways?
    17. 1:04:21 My pastor teaches that we are "little Gods" from the word of faith movement. I have disagreed with him in private conversation about this and he is firm in his belief. How important is this issue to salvation?
    18. 1:05:43 How does Israel in the Bible correlate to the present day political state of Israel? Are the promises for Israel meant for Israel today?
    19. 1:07:39 Is there a difference between the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Heaven? If yes, can you explain it for me?
    20. 1:09:04 What do you think of “dual covenant theology” (the belief that Jews can be saved without believing in Jesus due to their special covenant with God)?

12)Yes-all temptation comes from Satan. Sin is when you give into the devil’s temptation-1Corinthians 10:13. Yes to both Satan doesn’t take a break-John 10:10. 3) Physically or spiritually both should be taken seriously for 1John 5:16-17. We should always be available to share the Gospel with nonbelievers-spiritual death. If you see a believer in habitual sin you should rebuke them in love-physical death. The unpardonable sin is when nonbelievers do not accept Christ as their Savior. 💞 Luke 10:27 John 3:18 Romans 3:23-24

@@happygimp0 A Christian is allowed to protect their family from someone trying to kill them. Nowhere in scripture does it say we should just let a murderer kill us and our families if they were trying to do so.
Society/culture is the extension/the next step past the family unit.
Scripture also says we should protect the innocent......therefore, if society deems that a death penalty is just, to keep murderers from taking innocent life ever again, its not a sin.
Protecting people from evil is NOT a sin.
A far as i'm aware.......an unborn child has NEVER murdered anyone in the history of forever.
Murder is the only thing I believe there is, that warrants "the death penalty", in our current time, under the New Covenant.
Crimes must be "paid for" THEY ARE DEBTS.
.....literally EVERYTHING else can be paid back by restitution.......but there is NO restitution that can bring someone back from the grave. Therefore, if you take a life, that debt/ life can only be "paid for" with your own.
      AND
that payment isn't so much a "paying back for the life you have taken", its more-so
a "making sure you can NEVER do this again", since that individual has proven to
society, in their actions, that they are a danger to innocent life.
Its not about "vengeance", its about "protection"...........AND, that is exactly what the
      abortion issue is about.
Protecting the innocent should be the #1 concern in ALL society.
If it was, the world would be a MUCH better place.
Your name says it all, but im a Jew(Messianic).......arguing is our national sport. We rather enjoy it.
Would love to verbally spar with you.

If more pastors did that, there would be a lot less confusion on basic understandings of Christianity. As well as new believers should always be aware of how much it actually requires to have an adequate understanding. For the sake of not causing confusion out of our own ignorance! Thanks a lot Mike! It's very refreshing, and also encouraging in the sense that we should not rush to gain understanding, but we should be diligent as you are encouraging through your example.

    • @gareth2736
      @gareth2736 3 года назад +1

@@jessebryant9233 so in reality the death penalty would be rarely enacted as usually murder convictions are based on confessions or forensic evidence so wouldn't meet the standard for biblical proof. What would you do in these cases let the person go or give them a normal prison sentence? I certainly don't think it would be good to let them off, at least some of the OT laws are surely concessions to bronze age culture not laws that we should try to replicate in the 21st century.
I also don't think I see the same trade off as you as I don't believe it is necessary to have a death penalty in order to be against abortion. I also note that neither Republicans or Democrats have generally done very much to reduce the level of abortions and even selecting conservative judges to the supreme court does not seem to do much to change Roe vs Wade as conservative judges seems to be so big on precedent and the constitution they don't tend to counternance radical change...m..although both Republican local policies of making access to abortions more difficult and Democrat local policies of providing more economic support to poor single mums and providing easier access to contraceptives have both proved effective in reducing abortions in certain local areas where this has been a real focus.

    • @John-vj6ss
      @John-vj6ss 3 года назад +3

funny human As it is, the death penalty IS rare. I agree, though, with Mike and others, our system is terrible. There’s unbelievable levels of corruption all throughout. As you stated, even judges aren’t necessarily interpreting the law according to constitution (as the SCOTUS is supposed to) but according to precedent. I’ve had decision by one judge can affect law for a very long time. That’s not even getting into how the system can be bent according to ones resources to bend it. But at the same time, sometimes access to money can be a hindrance, especially in cases where a wealthy defendant is judged by a jury who, depending on personal bias, may see them as guilty BECAUSE they’re wealthy. It’s an odd thing. Almost like it’s schaudenfreude. I’d say most often wealth works in ones favor. But there are those cases it does the opposite. Overwhelmingly I’d say, the poor are probably the most likely to be harmed in a system such as ours. Perhaps the answer is to have lawyers as public servants, where there is no opportunity for wealth to be a factor. At the same time, I suppose, that still introduces the opportunity for corruption in the form of bribes, etc. In short, no human justice system will ever compare to the righteousness of God’s justice. Mistakes can and will happen. It is those times that we stay strong in our assurance that first, God is allowing for an “innocent” (though none are truly innocent) to be punished for His reasons, and second, that Gods justice will always prevail in the end. Everything happens for a reason, whether because God allows it or causes it. As for us, we do our best by following His commands.
Funny, I have recently been involved in RUclips arguments over a case in South Africa, where a young man was convicted of murdering his mom, dad and brother and attempted murder if his sister. After combing through the details of the case, I have come to strongly believe he is innocent of the crime. However, the absolute hate I’ve received for daring to defend this view , and expressing compassion for this “murderer” (including offering my prayers for him) has truly brought home for me the fact that there’s not really anything that divides “us” from “murderers”. We are all sinful and wicked. It really struck me how so many people seemed GLEEFUL at the thought of his suffering. How many comments of people wishing horrible things on him. It was honestly quite jarring. And I realized, I have been the same in the past. Believing myself righteous in my surety of my judgement of others. It truly brought into sharp focus the Bible’s pleas to remember the prisoners, that even they are worthy of compassion. Hard to do in practice. But it was a real eye opener to me on the nature of humans and what true Christ-like compassion really is. Puts the justice system into a different light. And seems even more problematic now than ever. But again, no real good solutions, so I ultimately remember that this life is so short, so fleeting. That really, there’s no good option other than placing your faith and trust in Gods mercy and justice.

    • @JohnHake
      @JohnHake 3 года назад +1

God gave us the standard by which the margin of error can be dealt with effectively. See Deuteronomy 19:15: "A single witness shall not suffice against a person for any crime or for any wrong in connection with any offense that he has committed. Only on the evidence of two witnesses or of three witnesses shall a charge be established." Corroboration is critical! I once had a prosecutor ask me as a potential juror whether I would accept the word of a solitary witness who had a very compelling testimony. I said that I would still require corroboration of some kind, and in the next round, that prosecutor used their option to eliminate me from the jury pool. But even Jesus required corroboration for his own claims ("If I speak on my own, my testimony is invalid”). God is truth, and because God is a Trinity, we know that truth requires multiple persons. We need to get back to the divine standard of evidence grounded in the self-corroborating nature of the triune Godhead!

I haven’t watched it yet. I intend to because I really love this channel and I think Mike does a great job addressing any question. My comment is just a response to the title… I don’t see how there is a real case to be made that being in favor of protecting the right to life of a growing baby inside a womb means I can’t also believe that a penalty of death is appropriate for certain crimes. On the one hand, an innocent human life created through the choices of 2 other people, entirely dependent on its mother for sustenance and protection. It has no agency whatsoever to affect its own life or fate, but it is created in the image of God and is a person Jesus died on the cross to save. On the other hand we have crimes grave enough to carry the gravest consequence - death - and adults who have the agency to CHOOSE to perpetrate those crimes, even though the established penalty is death. 🤔
God isn’t anti-death. He is just, He is loving, He is merciful... many many many other things as well... and He has ordained that sin has consequences. Romans 6:23 - “the penalty of sin is death.”

I have a book called The Eight Kingdoms and I believe it shows conclusively that the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Heaven are different. And when you realize that they are different it will really change how you look at Scripture. A simple example is the sheep and goat judgments are a part of the kingdom of heaven and that will happen during the thousand year reign of Christ and has nothing to do with the church. I would love to get this book in your hands.

God’s disposition is not one of rejection. He doesn’t turn away those who come to him. Living a Christian life can’t save you, but feelings can also lie. Just because you don’t feel Christian doesn’t mean you’re not. If you’ve repented; turned away from sin, and fallen on the mercy of the God described in the Bible, then God by no means will cast you out (John 6:37). Though feelings can be a blessing, they can lie. If you’ve left sin (not that you never sin) and come to the Father through Christ, trust his love for you and mercy and not your feelings (we aren’t Jedi).
“Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him; for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything” (1 John 3:18-20).

I take the YEC view for a few reasons, but as for the day/yom thing, it does say "the Sixth Day" and "the Seventh Day" while all the previous days are like "a first day"/"day one" (either translation work). I don't know why God said it that way, but I know that day 6 and 7 are "the" 6th and 7th days of the Creation specifically because the text says they are.
Also as a YEC I can still take the extremely valuable historical contextual information of the Ancient Near Eastern scholarship and what they say about the text without abandoning the view that the text is still describing the Creation of the relatively Young Earth. I have shifted, since learning about the ANE context, to knowing that the emphasis and focus of Genesis 1 (and what the Body of Messiah should be focusing on) is actually on God making Creation His Temple instead of just Him telling us how He formed Universe in the Beginning.

In verses 25-26 it says first that the "Most High" (+ God) rules, then that Heaven rules. So, as you said, it seems the terms are interchangeable.

I would like to introduce an alternative position: Pro-life in all cases from conception to natural death. Abortion is murder and I believe all Christians believe this but what about capital punishment?
Abortion is defined as an intrinsic evil; that is, there is never a reason for it. The death penalty, while extreme, is not an intrinsic evil. With that said, I oppose it for the following reason: Even a murderer needs their entire life to repent. They can be forgiven if they repent and there’s also the possibility of wrongful conviction.
Therefore I believe murderers should spend life in prison. The effect is the same - the inmate dies in prison - but on a date set by God not set by the state.

      - The RUclips live chat has a character limit (I don’t remember precisely what it is), so keep the question short.
I recommend writing the question in the live chat before the start time (so you have it prepared and know it meets the character limit), but don’t send it until you see the live stream start. The Bible says that we commit murder in our heart whenever we hate, and for those who are not saved, they will bare the punishement for that on judgement day, not here on earth.
I get it that the Bible says that governaments don't have the sword in vain, but i don't see how that applies to the death penalty. And the old testament supports the death penalty but that is the old covenant, just like stoning people etc...
Killing someone is always wrong, no matter what the circumstances are.

Well, no, there is such a thing as 'worse' sins. Not with respect to atonement; all sin warrants death. But with respect to penalties that God himself required/requires, yes, some sins are worse than others. Its a very basic legal and societal principle that a more serious sin/crime requires a greater punishment. Death for murder actually affirms the ultimate value of life, since death is the ultimate punishment. Those who oppose the death penalty unwittingly devalue life.

You mention Christ's words on hatred being murder in the heart, but you don't show how this is at all the same as physical murder, and then how this somehow (magically, if I'm honest) means the death penalty is wrong and abrogated.
Ironically, the passage on the state bearing the sword was stated by Paul, in the New Covenant. He never condemns the death penalty, despite having numerous opportunities to (he never tires from condemning the world of its sins).
Finally, that killing is always wrong no matter what is, if I may be honest, chief Biblical ignorance. Nowhere is this idea ever even implied in the Bible, Old or New Testament. You are reading an erroneous seamless garment, post-enlightenment theology into the Word of God.

@@TheOtherPaul as you said we deserve the death penalty for ALL sin: so how can we say "the murderor can be killed but not me"?
For the sake of society's safety the murderor can just as easily rot in jail, but to kill him would be wrong as we (deserving of the same punishement) are not justified to kill someone who is just like us. Who are we to do vengeance on our own?
      Vengeance belongs to the Lord.
It would be right for us to do it if it was ordered to us by God, but it is not. As i already mentioned, God does say in the old testament to give the death penalty to murderors, but the same goes for homosexuals. The old covenant required they be punished too.
But Christ gave us a new covenant to obey, and nowhere in the new testament have i seen a verse that supports killing anyone, under any circumstance.

I think more so the question is if women abort their babies shouldn’t those women get the death penalty because they’re murdering babies?

While there is biblical teaching about the death penalty the problem is that the system within which it operates in our world is profoundly unfair. There has been many people who were executed for crimes they did not commit, let alone those who were driven into a criminal lifestyle because of the structural injustice that exists in the country. As a pro-life person I find it difficult to understand the lack of mercy for those who our unjust justice system chooses to kill. Other countries put people in prison for life. Isn’t this better? Imagine the decision was about a loved one.

I do belive in Romans it states we are to follow the current governments authority. They weild the sword, it's not up to us to judge the penalty. We as Christians already know certain acts do deserve death. It's not up to you to say it's unfair what God has placed as authority. Follow Christ.

@@souzajustin19d this would make it unbiblical to challenge unfair government practices or human rights abuses. Just because there is biblical grounds for a death penalty does not mean that we have no role in challenging unfair practices even by government.

@@marymasthe1st324 That is correct, as Jesus was sentenced to death by his own government, and every Apostle was sentenced to death by their governments. None challenged the authorities, they accepted their fate right or wrong to the death. No one said carrying the cross is an easy task, it's a sacrifice of your self to the will of God. When Peter said you must not go, you must not die, or when drew the sword to deffend Christ.. Christ responded to him as Satan and those who live by the sword die by the sword. The Prophet Elijah refused to bow to the false idol, but was ready to be burnt alive and die for his crime. The Prophet Daniel, who refused to stop praying went to the dungeon with lions, ready to die.

@@marymasthe1st324 Paul did not sin, the same as Daniel did not sin. They both refused, and both accepted their crimes and punishment. Jesus refused, but accepted his crime the same way.
