Serial 1.8T ZT / ZT-T owner here. Every first time driver experience of the 1.8T has similar reaction to yours. Even my always drives German friend was impressed when I gave him a lift ten years ago. Over on various facebook groups, folks are fitting MG6 engines to 1.8T MG ZTs. I did this to a ZT-T headed for breaker yard over seven years ago. Been my daily driver load carrying workhorse ever since. The Chinese, after buying up the IPRs of MG Rover soon after the then Government called in the receivers, made a range of upgrades to their version of the Rover K-Series 1,8T they fitted to the MG6. That resulted in and even better and more reliable 1,8T .. some MG6s used as taxis 200,000 miles no issues.
@@beardsandbangers Not 100% sure. Chinese firm fitted early 1.8s to MG TFs and the 1.8T seems to have various IDs depending on source. The one to get is the 1.8T from the early MG6s. Just got back from a shopping trip in my ZT-T I fitted a low mileage MG6 engine over seven years ago. Still a pleasant drive from every aspect and a nice turn of speed when needed. Now retired, no real need to drive for economy but on a run, mid to high 30s MPG not driven for economy. Some folks get low 40s mpg. The word has long since got around how good the MG6 1.8T version is. Over on the Lotus Groups, owners buying up MG6 major engine components to upgrade the engines in the Lotus Elise, particularly those used on track days. If only Longbridge were allowed to do those simple improvements. The Bavarian asset strippers and a selfish myopic Government put paid to that.
@@beardsandbangersno the N series was a TF k series with a new head and gasket. The MG6 engine was reverse a engineered K series as SAIC didn't have the full rights at the time. And it's called Kavachi engine.
Very nice video Rob! The 1.8T isn’t a demon but it’s a very nice power plant in the 75/ZT. On a nice steady run I managed to get 45 mpg out of my Tourer. And it never feels underpowered. Absolutely love it☺️
Another fine video. Had a CDTi tourer for the last couple of years and currently trying to decide on which petrol model to add to the fleet, alongside my little 160 Express Van.
I am up in Scotland visiting family in my 190 from Leeds to Dundee with some stops in Northumberland on £50 of petrol. I really can't complain. And it's a great drive on the country roads. Although I would be interested in getting a 1.8 turbo. Slightly better fuel economy less road tax and cheeper insurance
As far as I know there were three MG ZT 1.8T in Mirage2. I have an interest because I have one of them, SE too, so all the toys. Had a Tom Force remap too. Good for West Wales roads. 171,000 miles so K series don't last?. Just due for its refurb for MoT.

Great info John. Was the chinese version of the engine called the N-Series?

Sounds like a great road trip! It would be interesting to do a comparison between a 1.8T and 2.5 for sure!
🤠

I don't get the negativity around the K series. Great engines, people just need to look after them!
"Beard Cam?!" Oh, you mean "Whisker Vision"👀🤪!
I can't use that camera... for legal reasons!
👍
_ Thanks
Just an induction kit and remap and your at zt190 power.👍
