well they made a character called bragi who is the helmsman and also a skald that sings whenever you take a ride with your drakkar (viking longboat) and einar selvik is his voice
For context: Baldr, in Norse mythology, was the younger brother of Thor, who was the complete opposite of him, a complete innocent soul who couldn't hurt anyone. So his mother, the goddess Frigg, made everything and everyone, and I do mean EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE, swear to never hurt him, EXCEPT for the mistletoe plant. Loki decided to, as we call it, _"commit minor amounts of trolling"_ by making a spear out of mistletoe and asking Bladr's twin to throw it at him, killing him.
Yes and no. Thats a very christianized version of the story. For all we know og old norse Baldr was a warrior, he had to be as he represents the very best of what a norsemen could aspire to be.
also for more context: Hel agreed to return Baldr only if every single being in existence weeped for him, Loki disguised himslef as an old lady/giant named Thokk and refused to weep. Thats what the lyrics talk about in the "Thokk will weep waterless tears over Baldrs Pyre" " Let Hel hold what she has" parts. its safe to assume the song is from Lokis perspective
@@diegoestmar559 You are right that the chorus is indeed from Lokis pov. That part was taken from an old Norse book that features "Balders død", where it features the whole story about how dreams announced Baldrs dead, how it became true and what big part Loki played in all of this. The other lyrics are taken from Egils Saga, or Sonatorrek, where the author laments the loss of his sons, his brother, his parents and ultimately also how he felt betrayed by Odin. However in the end he's able to make peace with his destiny. I think this part, the loss of a son, can be seen as what Odin thinks/says/feels, whereas the chorus can be seen as Lokis answer to Odins laments. I'd really like to know what Einar Selvik had in mind when he put together this song.
It's in these moments that you think that : yes, the Gods are meant to be superior beings to us, but the myths are written by humans and so they write things that are familiar to human nature, such as love, lust, anger and grief
Einar Selvik is gifted with the voice of Bragi
What is bragi ?
@@Itsmkay91 Bragi is the god of poems and songs, siad to hae the best voice in all of Asgard
@@Luke-se6ly you know what. Bragi is Einar
