How absurd does this fight make boxing look.. AJ and DDD have both been recently beaten by Usyk, so how can the winner of this fight claim to be heavy weigh world champion!!
It’s simple. Sanctioning organizations declare mandatory challengers for their champions to face. If the champion decides to sidestep the sanctioning organization’s mandatory challenger. The sanctioning body, according to their rules, has an obligation to strip the champion to allow an opportunity for the #1 ranked contender (mandatory challenger) an opportunity to fight the #2 ranked contender for the title. However, In this scenario Usyk vacated the IBF title on June 25th.
Thanks to Turki Al-Sheikh, Dubios, whom was ranked #2 in the IBF, fought and defeated the IBF’s mandatory challenger and #1 ranked Filip Hrgovic for the IBF interim title, was upgraded to champion being that the IBF’s #1 & #2 ranked contenders had just fought each other earlier that month.
Now it all depends on your understanding of the IBF sanctioning organization’s rules, whether or not you’re willing to acknowledge Dubois as the IBF champion. I’m willing to acknowledge Dubois as the IBF champion. After all one can make an argument that Dubois beat Usyk when they fought. Usyk was given 5 minutes to recover from a belt line punch that should’ve been a legal blow.

He also did run from the Klitschko rematch.
