Thank you. I know now that it is ok not to be able to differentiate between an introduction and a literature review!

Thank you so much, just starting my dissertation and I was so lost on where to begin because I'm still confused about the difference between the introduction and literature review parts on what does and doesn't need to be included, I'm doing mine on the effects of social media usage and motivation on academic performance, I was thinking of doing an overall introduction on what research has already been carried out in this field, and then moving onto my literature review and breaking each variable down into subsections to give a wider context, does this sound ok? or should I be giving the context of each subsection in the intro?

when you say introduction, do you mean the entirety of chapter 1 including the background of the study, scope, significance, and statement of the problem? and the literature review is the entirety of chapter 2?

I am mainly talking about for research and review papers now. Different fields and universities have different ways to structure dissertations (i.e. my dissertation chapters were different research projects).
