      Yes. I never understood some of the races they put Egan into when he started back racing though. Seemed a bit stressful and meaningless to have him racing up north when he could have been racing somewhere else more calm. 🤔🦋👊

    • @joowsty
      @joowsty Месяц назад +13

      my controversial note about this would be that i think that Greg Lemond should have had 5-7 Tour wins, two reason why he didnt were that he got shot and lost 2 years and the second was that after his last win the EPO era had started. Indurain was also mentioned in the video, but its generally known that he won all 5 because of EPO too and he was actually the reason Armstrong started EPO, because when Lance got back from his cancer treatments ppl like Indurain (who used to be on par or even less good than Armstrong before) all of a sudden passed him in TTs like Armstrong was standing still. thats when armstrong learned about EPO and later ofcourse started his win run. so maybe Lemond should be considerred the best grand tour cyclist the USA has ever had (imo at least haha).

    Thanks, Chris, and I think fenders should be mandatory in the rain in races, why not, it would set a good example for fans and it would be a bit safer for riders. Maybe panniers, too, for snacks and gear, even swag for roadside fans. Goofing about that but fenders in inclement weather, yes. And other safety improvements could be implemented and I'd be all for all of it. And as for the Tour, with all of these terribly distressing injuries in the peloton, I have ceased with any of my own expectations or predictions. I'll simply enjoy watching each stage and I will take it day by day and that's how I used to follow it all when I depended on the newspaper for stage results the next day. Or a brief recap on BBC on my boombox with shortwave radio bands. 😀

    to be honest, and i think this is the case for how Wout van Aert thinks about this, he would rather win the olympics this year than a stage win in the tour de france. for ppl like Vingegaard, Pogacar and Roglic you are right, for them winning the GC (not one stage) in the TdF is more important than the olympics. but who knows im wrong and Wout does prefer a stage win or a green jersey versus gold in the olympics, but guess only Wout can tell us that. but i do think he will need the Tour to get the racing rythm, he wanted to get that rythm in the Giro, but he cant ride that now.

    • @ChrisHornerCycling
      @ChrisHornerCycling  Месяц назад +2

      I would agree with you here. I would take the Olympics over one stage at the TdF but I would take it over three weeks of racing at Wout’s normal level there, especially if he is 100% and given free rein during 2024. Yikes, he could win five stages and take green. 🤔🦋💪😱🥇

    • @joowsty
      @joowsty Месяц назад

      @@ChrisHornerCycling yes i do think he could do that for sure, specially if Vingegaard is not there to defend his title. and riding a good tour de france won hurt his chances for the olympic title anyway i think.

    One "advantage" to having serious injuries early in the season is that the body isn't worn out from a season of racing and may have a more effective immune system so able to heal faster and more completely. That is of course if they are allowed the time to heal or don't personally put pressure on themselves to come back too fast.

    Agreed, Chris does an insightful analysis, just find his voice …unappealing. Maybe so this in front of a closet or a cloth/wool wall hanging.

    I like the fender advise! Nothing more disgusting than get my butt wet and a skunk stripe jersy ;-) As a sub average roadie I hate to ride behind a weight wheenie without a fender and getting the the road dirt from his back wheel on my glasses, face, lips and teeths.

      @ChrisHornerCycling  Месяц назад +3

      Right. I get no fender during the race because of the problems it may add if it moves or you flat or possibly you just want to look better in the photos (🤪) but in training it’s pure insanity not to use one. Yet every team ride I did barely any one had one on their bike. Except me 😜😜👊

    Pressure doesn't speed healing. Perhaps pressured to resume racing, even if not fully recovered.

      Personally I wanted back in as soon as possible. Missing racing was never my thing when I could be at a big event. Let’s hope all heal up fast. 😳🦋🤞👊

      @ardnax Месяц назад

      I would disagree, pressure definitely speeds healing also the pressure you put on yourself. But maybe you have to have been in pro sports to understand.

      @ardnax Biology doesn't care if the body is a professional athlete or not. If you weren't an idiot, you'd understand. So go "pressure" a bone to heal, go ahead, science will wait.
