  • @jaspr1999
    @jaspr1999 3 года назад +42

    What Merope did was unconscionable. For Riddle Sr to suddenly have an unwanted child thrust on him is no different than if the roles were reversed. Rape victims need an incredibly strong strength of will and support structure and if he did want to raise Riddle Jr he would have had to overcome that reminder of that child embodying the rape. I've seen too many children of rape live a life of constant hatred from their families, especially from their mothers.

    • @jaspr1999
      @jaspr1999 3 года назад +8

      @Freak-Boy - If this was a perfect world, I would agree with you. Unfortunately, I've seen the incredible abuses that can be heaped on a child's head by a hateful and resentful parent as a result of rape. While I would love a happily ever after of a father welcoming and raising his son, the reality is that the Riddle family snobbery alone would make Riddle Jr an outcast in his own family. Couple that a father that would treat him worse than Petunia did Harry and Riddle Jr would have had even more hate in him earlier than if he'd just gone to the orphanage. The "right" thing is very hard to define where rape is concerned.

    saw this comment on ig a few days ago and i agreed : Merope's selfishness permanently rendered her own son incapable of feeling the most wonderful thing in this world-love. She took away his chance to be human and feel like one before he was even born. It's very sad. And even refused to try and live for her son who needed her. All monsters have a creator, and Merope is responsible for Lord Voldemort just as much as her son was.

    • @DinoTechTurboCharge
      @DinoTechTurboCharge 3 года назад +2

      Regardless what she did was definitely wrong, not excusing her action what she do Tom Sr. But Meropes wasn’t in her right mind, when she did that to him.
      It not entirely Merope fault, how Tom Jr has turn out to be. Yes, she gave up on life. But that choices he made, I don’t think Merope being alive would makes any difference.
      To Tom upbringing, I obviously think she wouldn’t love. Even if she was alive, I think she would probably abandon him as well.
      A child doesn’t always need a biological mother or father to show them loves, they just needs anyone around them to show the loves and cares.

    Also I think one of the reasons Tom Riddle AKA Voldemort was the way he was apart from the Love potion was that he may have inherited some of the instability from his mother's side. since the guants apparently red kept marrying their cousins to keep a bloodlines lines
    pure. Coupled with the fact that Tom Riddle soon to be a very cold and controlled man who knew exactly what he wanted. He was snobbish and Rich and I think that may have also had an effect on voldemort's personality.

    I always found it weird that JK decided to create magical sex crimes in the form of love potions and the way she addressed these was not what she as an author was built for.
    I also think that the notion of a child born of non consensual liaisons must turn out evil is not just a bad one, but a dangerous one to spread. For my money, Tom made a series of choices throughout his life and he consistently chose to be evil, murdering and torturing of his own volition.

    That's another great video! Next November/December I'll be a Harry Potter fan for 20 years and Tom Riddle is definetely one of my most favorite characters from the wizarding world. I am very much enjoying your video's about him. And thinking about all the theories about him. Some think it is weird but I have always felt sorry for young Tom Riddle. The fact that he was not wanted from the beginning is very tragic. And there are things about him that are relatable. He preferred to be on his own, he was ambitious , he feared death. Those are things I see in myself as well.

    • @jorgebersabe293
      @jorgebersabe293 3 года назад +1

      Tom Riddle is a dark mirror of Harry Potter, with most of his flaws being exaggerated versions of Harry's own:
      -Both are half-bloods who came from miserable places and discovered the magic world at a tender age, seeing Hogwarts as their home. Both also became famed figures during their lifetimes and became leaders during the Wizarding Wars. Both also attracted the attention of pureblood witches and can be impulsive and temperamental. Hell, both also have the same core in their wands.
      -Tom saw the Wizarding World as a means to achieve power, wholeheartedly embracing his fame and when he caught wind about being a wizard, he embraced it fully as he already believed himself special. He surrounded himself with puppets and hyenas and resented his origins as a half-blood, disrespecting his mother's sacrifice and killing his father. He was also afraid of dying and treated Bellatrix with apathy, seeing her as a useful pet to keep around.
      -Harry saw the Wizarding World as a way to fit in, rejecting his fame and when he caught wind about being a wizard, he couldn't believe it. He surrounded himself with friends and companions and embraced his half-blood status, looking up to his father despite his flaws and honoring his mother's sacrifice. He embraced Death as an old friend and genuinely loves Ginny.
      -Overall, Tom Riddle is a dark parallel to what Harry could have become if he was more ambitious and had no sense of care or responsibilities towards others, but also allowed his past traumas and bitterness towards the world morph into brutal hatred.

    Reading what Professor Dumbledore and Harry experienced by means of Professor Dumbledore's Pensieve, I do believe that there are a few genetic traits displayed by Marvolo, Morfin and Merope Gaunt that Voldemort inherited. Violence, prejudice against half-blood or muggle born wizards, parseltongue, no particular "healthy" genes as a result of generational inbreeding and then the lack of being cosseted in love and gently taught what the consequences would be when you do something evil was all there. Voldemort was a lone wolf from a young age. He did not just scare other orphans because he could do supernatural things. He used his abilities to scare, manipulate, control and physically harm the other children which all boils down to the one thing that the adult Voldemort was infamous for: An absolute dying hunger and thirst for Power.

      Voldemort : Hello, father, allow me to introduce myself, I am Tom Marvolo Riddle, son of yourself and that Gaunt freak woman you were just talking about!
      Tom Senior's dad : Tom?!
      Tom Senior : He is lying! She tricked me! She was crazy from the start! I never fathered a child of any kind with her!
      Tom Senior's mom : But he looks so much like you!
      Voldemort : Enough of this! Since you don't want to acknowlege my existence, then I refuse to recognize you as my father! From now on, I will no longer bear the name of Tom Riddle! I shall be Lord Voldemort! Avada Kedavra!
      and then, after killing his muggle relatives, Voldemort went back to Morfin to return the stolen wand and modify Morfin's memory in addition to stealing Marvolo's ring to make it a horcrux, not knowing the ring was also the Resurrection Stone in disguise
      he returned to Hogwarts, with a clear conscience, due to having expertly covered up his crimes
      later on, when he started creating the Death Eaters, he would tell them that his name was Marvolo Gaunt, and he descends from the daughter's line of the Gaunt family and had a grandfather whom he was named after

    Also psycopatics (a sickness in the brain that unables you to love or feel) are tretable, and they can eventually learn and feel for others.
    Same with Tom. Everyone blaims his parents, but what about the care takers? Had they shown a little love to Tom, it could have had a different impact. I think that a lesson for everyone here is to show kindness and love regardless, because you don't know whenever you may be meeting a Tom, and you may be an essential part for twisting the person in another direction.

    I don't see reason to believe that the circumstances of his parents are THE reason for his violent tendencies and lack of empathy - he never latched on to anyone who loved him to make up for the lost love, even though he could have latched on to Dumbledore as a mentor who got him out of the orphanage or someone like Bellatrix, who loved and violently adored him.
    I believe his circumstances formed him, but we see in the Gaunt family a lack of respect for Merope, enormous entitlement, pride, cruelty, narcissistic tendencies and violence/demeaning behavior and his father, Tom Riddle, was said to be unpleasant, arrogant and self-centered as well.
    Some people just are violent and lack empathy, it's in their genes - and socialization can make it worse, but not reverse it.

I believe both magical witches/wizards and normal muggals are not much different from each other at all. I believe everyone has a bit of "magic" in them when they fall in love, write poetry, sing, dance or be creative in any sort of way. I just believe it is channeled differently from others. For instance, muggle borns, and squibs, both have magical properties, but channel it in differing ways.

    Though he may can't feel love, I do believe he can feel sympathy. But he choose not to. He chooses to be evil. He chooses not to be a better person. He chooses to torture others for his own pleasure. Yeah, his childhood sucks but so does for other people(Harry for example) . He was a talented and popular student. I bet many people treat him well because of that. But that's not enough. He wanted more. I wonder if Dumbledore had noticed these changes within him and if he had tried to guide him to be better, would he still become evil? Whatever it is, his story is sad because of his parents mistakes, other people faced the consequences.

    Actually, one does not automatically become evil without feelings just because he came into the world without the support of his father and love. According to the holy text of the Bible: One can have the heart filled with evil if one's own pride enters the head and triggers the feeling of hatred that lasts forever. Without proper care from the family, a child can become naughty and grow up to be a violent person, but no evil! But in this case, Tom Riddle Marvolo was accepted as a student at the Academy of Witchcraft and Wizardry at Hogwarts Castle School as a very young man. Got a house and wand. And learned spells. He could talk to snakes, and understand and hear them. He nailed worm tongue very well. He began to be intrigued in using the three forbidden curses and little by little, he rose as the dark lord Prince Voldemort. And the Death Eater clan was created. The symbol is a tattoo of a skull with a snake. As the years passed, he gained his own army of loyal wizards who served him and became members of the Death Eater clan. Known members: Lestrange Belltrix, Mr and Mrs Malfoy. (Lucius and Narcissa). And his best friend and assistant was Petter Pittelpytt. His pet was a large snake, this was also one of the death talismans (Hocruxes).

    David Yates biggest crime in making the Harry Potter movies was omitting the Voldermont’s background story of his maternal family the Gaunts and the paternal family the Riddles not to mention the added insult of cutting out Dumbledore’s funeral all together. The Families added much needed context explaining why the boy Tom jr. was ultimately doomed to become the dark wizard Voldermont. To this very day, the Half Blood Prince which was supposed to be one of the best films is my least favorite and not surprised when the Fantastic Beasts series failed to muster the same enthusiasm like the HP movies.
