They even shut down Jamal, and joker still bring it home
The fake news media to blame. Ant a fraud and Wolves were never title contenders. Stop giving these poor souls hope when they never had a chance.
The blame should go to shaq, seem like after he confronted him about the mvp he took it personally like Jordan from what I've seen.
More seriously, dumb fans and commentators seeking hot takes speak in zero sum games. But the simple fact is the Nugs are a better TEAM. The Wolves are young. I trust Ant will learn because Ant does and is already mature beyond his years. This summer he will be figuring out how to break double teams and learn how to better play team defense in addition to man defense. (He was ball watching at times, costing fast break points.)
People are crazy to think that Gobert is playing poorly and I am a Nuggs fan. The matter of fact is nobody can stop Joker. Yes, one can slow him down sometimes, as evident by those first 2 games, but you cant stop him. For some reason, people assume that DPOY means a complete shutdown. Stop it. Gobert did everything he could but great offense beats great defense all the time.
There was that one hook shot where the only thing Rudy didn’t do was block the shot and it went in. Shit’s ridiculous
Facts 👍🏾
you're so dumb. a nugs fan would say gobert is playing the best he has ever played. When he's not. He used to average 16 and 15 with 3 blocks about 8 years ago. Gorbet is old and isn't a good player at all. he's slow now. Naz Reed shut down jokic in the first two games. t pups coach just can't coach at all.
He gets EXPOSED EVERY PLAYOFFS!
Rudy is trash.
This is just Draymond Green hating on Rudy Gobert, his is always taking shots at Rudy, and making fun of him. No one can stop Jokic.
Draymond jealous of those DPOY awards 100
Draymond couldn`t stop him either. It took Jokic two games to figure Draymond`s out D out..

100% correct. We are making this way too much about Gobert, and not enough about Jokic

Jokic fan, and Rudy is a great defender against basically every other player/team out there. Rudy talked too much trash to a young Nikola, and Nikola never forgets to repay those words.
I somewhat agree because there is some of that, but people just love to make Rudy a punchline.
Nope. Jokic is a generational player. Gobert IS OVERRATED. He DOES NOT PLAY WELL against ANYONE. I EXPECTED Jokic to average 35+ and was surprised he didn't but now he's woken up and will have his way. Gobert is simply OVERRATED. I've watched him ALL SEASON, he CANNOT defend a single big in iso FACTS 💯. This has NOTHING to do w Jokic's singular and undeniable greatness. Two things can be true at once: Jokic - generational, Gobert - overrated AF
As a Wolves fan, thank you for this. It is crazy how many people are pointing all the blame at Rudy now. The Nuggets are the defending champs and with 3x MVP Yokic (should be 4x imo). Nuggets are all hitting shots at a crazy high clip. They say you gotta weather the storm but I am just glad my team is here in meaningful basketball. Hopefully the Wolves can step up and extend this series.

Shaq did to Mutombo in 2001 Finals what Jokic is doing to Rudy now. His dominance not even a Dpoy can handle. Its not a detriment to the Dpoy. Its a statement of how great Jokic is.
It really shows that Rudy is a much better as a help defender than straight man up defender.
Jokić nowhere near Shaqs physical dominance that's the point
Its not people. It was Draymond. He literally had this man in a chokehold a few months ago and yet he has the luxury of bashing him on tv saying he was embarrassed.

No he was not ! He doesn’t even put a hand up or box out on post ups
He was not glued to him at all times. It's not all Rudy's fault. But the coach didn't properly adjust, playing one one one, bitting on pump fakes and pivots. He's gunna get his assets regardless of double teams or not. But I didn't see Rudy necessarily take away anything. And there were times in the last 2 games that I seen the wolves try to front him, and that's a coaching problem not a Rudy problem. Rude tried, but he wasn't glued all game. And alot of that is coaching fault and lack or rotations defense.
I've never been a Jokic fan, but I can't lie. That offensive display yesterday was pretty effin impressive lol.
Good offense will always beat good defense. It's as simple as that. Basketball isn't a sport like NFL or football (or soccer like the Yanks call it) that is low-scoring and can reward defense. A great offensive player like Jokic will have his way with a great defensive player anytime, particularly when he's feeling it (like he was yesterday).
Watching Draymond on TNT mocking Gobert was embarrassing. Jokic essentially had no help in 2022 and still put up elite numbers against Draymond and Golden State. This version of Jokic with Murray and MPJ healthy would absolutely cook him; I mean they've basically done that for the past two seasons.
Since 2022 - 2024 regular season nuggets beat warriors 7 straight games with 7 - 0 records 😅

Afunkydiabetic on YT said it best. If being able to stop Jokić is the threshold for being a great defender, then every player in the league should just give up because here’s the list of players who can defend Jokić in the post:

I'd argue Jeffersons take about Embiid being the best C scorer in the league. Compared to Jokic, he is just the C who takes the most shots and gets the most ft's per game. If Jokic wanted to average 30pts per game, he could easily do so and I'm not sure why it is hard for some of these ex players to acknowledge that.
averaging 30 and the abilty to score 70 is not the same thing
I think most people get that, but it's Embiid's role to be a primary scorer while Jokic has a more versatile game. Jokic could potentially be the best scoring center if he took more shots, but he won't. It reminds me of the Durant/Lebron comparisons from around 8 years ago, where Lebron could potentially be the best scorer, but Durant was titled the best, since his teams required him to carry more offensive load and he came out with the scoring titles.
@@markeeculver2040 against the Spurs, the 5th worst team in the league Embiid went off at home?
And remember he got hurt right after that because it isn't sustainable. You can have that 70 point game, I'd rather have titles and consistency from Jokic.
@@bc8814 Exactly. Jok is doing way more things on the court, scoring is not the most important. But that fact alone, should not devalue his ability to score. Perhaps I have misunderstood Jefferson, but sounded to me that he mentions Embiid as the most "prolific" scorer, at their respective position, which, in my opinion, is not the case. He is a higher volume shot taker, which enables him to score more points. If you compare their percentages it becomes more clear what I'm talking about (or it doesn't). 😅
No one is saying Jokic couldn't average 30ppg but he doesn't. You think it'd be fair to say Embiid could be the best passing big in the league if he decided to do so more?

I dont think Rudy was the main reason they couldnt guard Jokic obviously, but he, as well as his other teammates could have played better defense for sure. What about icing screens? What about shot clock awareness? What about not gambling? Obviously theres no stopping him but those are preventable mistakes
i was thinking that embiid can give jokic a challenge but the problem is he don't want to show up in denver 😂
This is good analysis. Lot of other shows (and I actually did a little survey) took the easy "negative soundbite" route. Mostly people who had dismissed Jokics' effort early in the series without crediting Gobert at all. Game 5 showed Gobert putting out two games worth of defense on Jokic...AND JOKIC OVERCAME IT!
That's the game 5 story, and these guys nailed it.

Spot on.
But he scored pretty well yesterday.
He is useless out there
As a blazer fan, I've watched Jusuf Nurkic dominate Gobert in the post for almost a decade now. It's not just Jokic, Gobert can't defend real centers. His entire DPOY case is based on his ability to help on defense, but he can't guard 1v1.
No matter who defends Jokic he just finds a way to score. that is a Sign of. Great Player
I would say the Wolves just didn't look like themselves for some other reason.
Rudy has historically never been able to stop Jokic. Watching this game tonight, there were several of those post moves especially the triple twists then goes right with the English high off the glass, that I was like damn that ain’t dropping but it did.
we are never allowed to blame any player for their performance ever, no matter how poorly they may play on a given day we must only say good things. if we hold someone accountable for their own performance then we clearly dont understand basketball!
It is the complete opposite. You look for reasons everytime somebody plays well. Its always the other team not playing good or defending well. Explain to me what you wanted Gobert to do. There is not a man ever that could have defended those shots better. He made him go to counters and shots that were nearly impossible. I can tell how clueless a person is on nba takes when they talk about gobert. It must be xenophobia at this point

To be fair, Dwight does have the strength to prevent him from getting deep position on back downs
@@JimBrave-ri1oc They will still lose with his playmaking. Also, you brought up dudes that cannot shoot threes or control the offense with movements lmao. Easy Work. That era did not have no high level scoring bro.
Nobody is blaming him for Jokic greatness we’re saying he shouldn’t be the DPOY
So who should’ve won it ?
Cause jokic cooks anybody in the league.
Anthony Davis
@@TheDisruptiveOne didnt AD literally get cooked by jokic 2 weeks ago ?
@@TheDisruptiveOne AD got cooked by jokic b2b years lol no way your serious
@@evilkingster Hachimura got cooked. Not AD.
They did the same thing to Ayton last year.
Are people forgetting Jokic was cooking AD as well? Even the greatest defenders will get scored on. Shane Battier breaks it down properly. Sometimes, the player’s offense is just that good.
Look. Im an average guy on the internet, but am confident I could shut Joker down 1v1.
4x dpoy & nobody allowed to say anything but crush others LMAO ight
Do you see the things said about that man?
Do you see the things said about that man?
@@kb4231 I’m talking about ex players ik Jokic that guy ik ik but bruh pride gotta kick in at some point
@@Daymont_ BIG FACTS
Yea the level of defending gobert on this is ridiculous. Draymond didn’t even roast him. He DID say you can’t let Jokic back you down. Of course Jokic going to get what he gets to some degree, but watch green defend him - he holds his ground way better than gobert did
Joker looks to be in better shape then last year bros dunking your not gonna stop that swag
Yeah hat on backwards is a pet peeve of mine. All I hear is”I’m still cool!” Right?
Convenient how American media gone quiet abt “Young Jordan” shitting the bed in the 2 most important games in the series..
Shitting the bed? He scored 44 on 60% shooting game 4. Game 5 they doubled every single possession and he passed out and trusted his teammates to swing the ball.
I bet a lot of money you didn’t watch the last two games.
@@alberta5771he played poorly in game 5 dude.
Last time I checked, MJ lost in the first round when he was 22
@@truemrfu9673yes or no did you watch the game live? If yes explain how he played bad
No need to trash Ant to praise Jokic. Edwards has been great in this series. In game 4 he was great, in game 5 he was decent. 4 great games out of 5 is nowhere near a fail.
The FOUR TIME DPOY looked like he was on ice skates trying to guard Jokic. He couldn't do anything with him and was eaten alive.
U favorite defender ain't stopping jokic
@@owenmokganedi8405 When he puts his mind to it, no one is.
Just like wemby, AD, bam, giannis, embiid. I don't know why everyone needs to mention it when it happens to rudy tho
@@dasupremegentlelad4321AD did a MUCH better job against Jokic in the post compared to Gobert, it’s not even close dude. Rudy out here looking like they grabbed a fan from the stands and told him to suit up
@MM-jc7uv no he didn't. Now you're just talking lol. Before yesterday games jokic was shooting between 33% to 40% when covered by gobert goofy. Yesterday he just went off. And gobert possibly had the best game of any wolves player, if it wasn't for him the wolves would've got obliterated. Get the he'll out of here and actually watch some games. Legitimately most of jokics shots on gobert were heavily contested, jokic is just that good.
Jokic put up similar numbers in Game 1 which the Nuggests lost. The difference in this Game 5 is the Nuggets were also able to lock up on defense and kept Kat and Ant from scoring.
I like this show but they should provide more evidence for their takes.
DPOY is at least supposed to have a CHANCE against the MVP. It looked like JV defense. No excuses.
Y’all gotta go back and watch Dray vs. Jokić in that series. THAT is what locking up Jokic looks like…
Exactly
What a jokic with facundo campazzo and will barton getting minutes on the court? You are a dumbass
You def can't blame Rudy for the loss, but for a true center thats DPOY and isn't tasked to also be a focal point on offense or guard the perimeter like AD...its not ridiculous to expect a better result from him.
Jokic is that dude no doubt about it, but he's making it look too easy out there.
the most liked comment on the last timberwolves post was " send rudy back to france in handcuffs." Some dude replied "leave the DPOY trophy"
Add the “dpoy” you have to say least hold ur matchup to their average or lower. 40 pts is insane
None of the other dpoy candidates could do that why is it suddenly and indictment on Gobert? Jokic dropped a 40 ball on Bam’s head in the finals and on Wemby this season. NO ONE can stop him.
🤦♂️
at least a stop or two Jokic put on a clinic mind you 4x dpoy but guess that holds no weight lol
@@sideactivist Deandre Ayton had Jokic on clamps in 2021
@@sideactivist Don’t make me get Dwight Howard
Gobert is still great but he’s no Ben Wallace simple as that we can leave it there
Ben Wallace wouldn’t be able to stop jokic either 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
Jokic would have cooked Ben Wallace, too
Ben Wallace got to play in an era devoid of offense
Agreed
Shaq averaged 26.6 points in the finals against Ben WITH Sheed helping him out. That's not Ben "holding his own". It's the entire team helping. Also Ben didn't have to worry about guarding the perimeter unlike Rudy has to right now so that's A LOT of pressure off of him. The 2004 Pistons team was my favorite team but even I have to admit that it took the entire team defensively to contain Shaq. Not shut him down.
Ben also is like 6'8 with shoes, so idk if he could guard Jokic 1v1. Joker would just shoot over him every time like he does to people like Kyle Anderson.
No love for Malone? The schemes are different on offense. Props to the coaching team.
Thank you !!! Acting like no other center wouldn't be cooked. Even AD was being schooled.
what's the point of being defensive player of the year and Jokic scores 40 points in the most important game ?
Because Jokic is just that guy.
Mj shaq LeBron Kobe Curry etc all have given dpoys 40or something close to that that’s what the all time greats do … just a dump comment
jokic would've dropped 40 regardless of who was guarding him lmao
Everyone at Gil Arenas blaming Rudy Gobert but truth is nobody can stop the Joker
I think they have to live with Jokic’s scoring. Best bet is to make KAT/Naz pick him up and Gobert plays on help. Hopefully that would subtract the Jokic/Gordon action and force them to play a perimeter game, which is how they nailed them first couple games
That 4time dpoy on Gobert’s resume has put the target on his back.
Same thing with Jokic, if he plays bad and always gets blocked, he’ll be criticized as well.
Jokic is a hybrid of Shaq, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. He is an unstoppable player with his powerful teammates.
I don't think people are literally blaming Gobert. They are just tired of the optics of it. Gobert was actually one of the best +/- in the box score for them somehow 😂
Just look at Shaq and Draymond reactions to the game and the comments section of espn.
I wonder when the debate begins about the joker being more dominant than Shaq. Domination is more than brute force.
As a wolves fan 10000000%. This dude was just cooking us
“shout out embiid” SMH. Jokic is the best period. Embiid can’t compare.
Joker-Gobert match-up "kind of" looks like Shaq vs Mutombo in The Finals.
Jokic scored 31, 39, 42, 22 against San Antonio and Wemby
Thank you for this. The poor guy gets way too much crap! He is 4 time DPOY for a reason. Jokic is just too good one on one.
