I think it was just about everyone’s first dream car haha…now I couldn’t even imagine how miserable it would actually be to get into, but I bet once you’re in, it’s a wild and fun ride.
@@mholmes9262 I can't technically drive due to disability, but even if I could I doubt I'd ever be able to afford one... luckily in games like need for speed: hot pursuit remastered I can live out my cannonball run dreams that way, though I'd imagine the real thing a million times more amazing
I grew up idolizing this car in the 1980’s. Such an awesome car. I’d argue this is still the definitive “supercar”. It’s performance, styling and desirability still ring true today.
I love the looks of the Countach. Every boy wanted a poster of one in their bedroom in the 80s and 90s. I had a poster of a silver 25th anniversary model on my wall back in the early 2000s. I just hate that US safety specs had to have those god awful 5 mph bumpers on the US models.
When I was a kid in the 80s and early 90s, I was a diehard fan of the exterior styling of the 80s Countach. It really had the perfect looks to go with the Lamborghini bull logo.
The number of walls adorned with the posters of the Countach is probably a few fold more than any other car model, in the history of automotive world. (Countach, F40, 959 - the classic legendary trio)
@Self Made Auto That is true, but at least if something breaks the problem is easily diagnosed. Sensor, and wiring issues are super frustrating with aging modern cars where EVERYTHING is computer controlled!
Owned a 1988.5 for many years, very much enjoyed it. Now in my mid 50s I prefer my Maserati Grandturismo S and Cabrio S just as fast, but far more comfortable for this Old Guy :-)
Despite all the shortcomings, visually, every 80s kid loved the crazy body kit. Decades later, when we think of a Countach, the image in my mind has this kit on it.
This car is almost as old as I am and it's still my dream car. I will never forget when I bought the poster of this car.. it was red. It hung on my wall until I moved out of my parents house. Now I can't find it.
Someone should remind the owner of this car that he is but one of a long line of owners likely stretching hundreds of years into the future. Inso, he has a duty to remove the garbage painted, bolted and/or tacked onto its body or else sell it on to someone who will look after it properly.
Perfection is an illusion. Most ppl view these things as icons, they polish that in their mind moving to perfection. When faced with reality you get all the nuance which for better or worse completes the package. But those w/ perfection crafted prior to experiencing the real thing get lost w/ whats presented to them. I try and keep that in the back of my mind when I experience certain things.
Given the choice of any Countach, I'd take either one of the early 80s low-roofs or the last QV models; but offer me any of the pre-Audi RWD Diablos and the Diablo wins every time.
Why do people accept these shortcomings (no pedal space, etc..) from these exotic manufacturers when the same shortcomings from any other manufacturer would immediately be shunned.
Love the Countach. Brings back childhood memories of owning a radio controlled toy version in yellow. Someday, I hope to own one but for now my E46 M3 will have to suffice, although I do appreciate the fact that my m3 can do a faster 0-60 time 😄
The Countach, vs a Ferrari 308 it would totally smoke that car. It would also outrun a flat 12 Ferrari Testarossa. Thing was a freaking rocket ship in terms of early/mid 1980's cars, faster than the Porsche 911 Turbo. Although the Ferrari F40 and Porsche 959 redefined speed in road legal cars by 1986-87, but before then the Countach was the king of speed.
Oh man I have the same socks as the reviewer in this video, not sure why I’m amused by that, (edit - guess part of it is this was ‘86...I’m talking about socks wtf oh well) suppose I didn’t expect it (believe it or not I came for the Countach). Why can’t it be the *same* car instead??
Lamborghini did bring out some icons and oddballs. After a fight with Enzo Ferrari, he started his own super cars and omg the Miura, Countach, LM001 and others. One thing I am not happy about. Volkswagen bought Lamborghini ...
always had a soft spot for the countach since the days of 'cannonball run' definitely my earliest dream car, for sure!
I think it was just about everyone’s first dream car haha…now I couldn’t even imagine how miserable it would actually be to get into, but I bet once you’re in, it’s a wild and fun ride.

Same here :) Was also in love with the corvette stingray, as my neighbor had a pristine example when I was a kid.
Have you seen the new documentary by VinWiki on that car? Most captivating 45 plus minutes of my life this year. lol!
@@shmac96 oh no I might have to look that up!

Nothing comes close to this beauty hey?
I still have a Laser print of this car up on my wall with the Golden Gate bridge in the background at sunset. It will always be a timeless design.
For anyone who grew up watching cannonball run with Burt knew about this car and the Mitsubishi starion /conquest that Jackie drove 😍
Absolutely, I was mesmerized by the Mitsubishi’s well I have to say!

Haha I had a 6 foot poster of a red one on a checkered floor background for most my child hood
My white Countach poster got replaced by a red 1st gen Viper after it was accidentally torn

John Davis is the David Attenborough of the car world when it comes to voices.... LOL
He's getting pretty up there in age, what a legend
Still looks good in 2022!
And 2024
The number of walls adorned with the posters of the Countach is probably a few fold more than any other car model, in the history of automotive world.

Still my dream car.
I didn’t know Roger Mecca still worked for Motorweek. Glad to see him!
The future was here with this one
@Self Made Auto that’s nearly every 70s or 80s car
@Self Made Auto That is true, but at least if something breaks the problem is easily diagnosed. Sensor, and wiring issues are super frustrating with aging modern cars where EVERYTHING is computer controlled!
Roger is my brother. I am always impressed by his talent.
Tell your brother that in 2022 I’m wearing socks identical to his in this 1986 review lol. Thus, I’ve enjoyed this classic clip twice as much :)
This was on every 80s kids wall growing up
Owned a 1988.5 for many years, very much enjoyed it. Now in my mid 50s I prefer my Maserati Grandturismo S and Cabrio S just as fast, but far more comfortable for this Old Guy :-)
Has to be the most sexy and beautiful car ever built.
The Countach is one of the few classic cars that wouldn't look silly, electrified!
I LOVE IT!!!! THANKS FOR SHARING!!!!
The early version was much nicer than the end of production.
Despite all the shortcomings, visually, every 80s kid loved the crazy body kit. Decades later, when we think of a Countach, the image in my mind has this kit on it.
evidently
I like how the drivers dash is just a saggy box covering the gauges.
to shade from glare
I have always loved the Countach. I should have never sold the poster I had of it.
I never had impure thoughts looking at the half naked woman standing next to the white Countach poster on my wall.
Teenage dream's car 😍😍😍

It looks absolutely perfect in black
Includes an 80s cell phone too
The first poster I put on my rooms wall when I was 14 back in 1985. Stayed there untill I mooved from my parents home ten years later...
Every young kids bedroom poster. Timeless low wedge design wish i can invest in one LOL
This one has Gotti rims and body kit I had never seen before
Miora?
Holy crap. Detail that thing
This is my dream car
while technology has surpassed this cars performance. nothing can take away that it still is a SUPERCAR.
👌🥰👉❤️Every kids dream car growing up in the 80s! Who remembers Cannonball run?
Some drive-bys where you could actually hear the exhaust would’ve been appreciated…
I think it's a great looking car
thank you for this video!!
Nothing beats the original.
I got a promotional Matchbox Countach 10 year mark out of a arcade game is closes I get to having one😮
Even saying it’s name is exciting let alone taking one for a drive
Chose possibly the worst spec Countach I’ve ever seen to feature.
Those side skirts and pin strips are awful
Id buy it for the car phone
I’ve seen many kit cars that try to look like Countachs. I have never seen a real Countach made to look like a kit car.
@@Mac10Daddy oh the humanity. I just don’t even…
What's a Mee-Or-Uh?
Wtf that’s an 89 anniversary edition and the first one was the lp400 not 500
Que sensacional 😀😍👍
Sempre sensacional 😃👍
Sempre sensacional 😃👍
That was my dream car
Terrible pinstriping and sacrilegiously awful bodykit..... HOW could they do this to such a legendary icon?????
#1 poster car in the world period
What's with those rims and that weird front bumper?
Always disliked when they started adding sideskirts and the anniversary model. Too much clutter.....
I am a long Motorweek and John Davis fan, but someone has got to talk to him about his tanning routine.

I think trying to "clear your palate" is best.
If Darth Vader drove a car it would be a Countach!
Uau que sensacional carro esportivo
This car is an assault to the senses

low body, not low roof
Wasn't the first Countach the LP400?
I think every kid in the 1980s had a poster of this car on their bedroom wall.
To my eyes, diablo look very similar to countach. Diablo look more rounded than angular countach.
Comparing the Diablo favourably to another car as a daily driver must be a serious feat
"Mira"?
WTF, dude
Awesome
The red pin striping looks atrocious! 🤮
I put the Car & Driver centerfold on my wall😄
Love those Gotti wheels!! 👍👍
As opposed to the factory Campagnolos? Yikes.
Those wheels make it look like a kit car.
Cannonball movie put on map .
Nice Dickies..I'm wearing the same socks..does that mean I get a countach
The Countach is beautiful.
But no one seems to be able to find the word.
Beautiful car, but to add to the list of complaints, the Ford Sierra Cosworth RS 500 would wax it’s tail on a track.
That thing looks like some 17 year old boy racer got ahold of it.
I wish we lived in a world full of Porsche 959s lol.
Yeah, they made 345 959s in total.
Why do people accept these shortcomings (no pedal space, etc..) from these exotic manufacturers when the same shortcomings from any other manufacturer would immediately be shunned.

Is that Jay Mohr driving the car?
So is it a 40 valve motor? QV with a V10 would make me think so.
48!
How is that possible? 4 x 10 = 40. Where do you think the other 8 comes in?
@@johnnykwon8173 THE ENGINE IS V12.

Que da hora 😁😁👍
high body Lamborghini Countach
Beautiful car...but those rims are hideous. The stock rims just helped round out the look.
That car phone is pretty styling and profiling but if I want that I’ll just buy a Merc or BMW
Couldn’t they find a nicer one?
The Aventador is the new Countach.
Obviously.
This car doesn't have many curves, it seems to have more angles than curves.
Every kid In the 80’s poster car

Was the LP400 the same car Michael Jackson morphed into in the movie Moonwalker??
Is it just me or y'all noticing the kinked hose 🤔
"It's so much fun to drive!" Really? No thanks. I like the look, but all I've heard about the experience, is stay away!
Lotus and pantera baby lamb

What’s a Mayora? Does he mean Miura? WTF???
Give me the Diablo over the Countach….
Still this car will always be sexy ❤️🔥💅👄👰♀️ despite its " imperfections".
Red piping stripes
This car is bad, full of problems, completely insane and illogical, but it is pure awesomeness....
Gotta have one !
60 in less than 5 and 185 top not too shabby but that interior is god awful
It's got 80s written all over it
I like it better without the wing LP400 ftw 🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️
Not unlike my gen 1 Dodge Viper
