  • During winter we have loved having these SPLASH PANTS that I made for my kids. These are water resistant (though not entirely waterproof) overalls/dungarees designed to make puddle jumping and wet weather play more enjoyable and less...wet. These pants feature soft shell fleece fabric, snaps to hold them on and elasticated ankles to keep the water from going into their boots. I've also added stirrups to go under their boot to make them even more secure. Anyone else remember stirrup pants from being a 80s/90s kid or just me?!
In today's pattern I show you how I draft the pattern for these splash pants so you're able to replicate this at home for the size you need for your child. This is a beginner friendly sewing project and I've included an easy sew version that takes only 30-45 minutes and also a more professional looking version.
I've also included lots of great clips of my kids giving these rain pants a test as they played in the creek at Morialta Conservation Park here in Adelaide - we even saw a koala.
    Let's get making!

    ABOUT THIS CHANNEL:
Welcome to My Mum Makes! I’ve started this channel as a creative outlet to share my sewing projects online. I’ve loved to sew since my Mum taught me as a little girl and I find it relaxing, productive and fun. I love the chance to make things for my kids, myself and our home and I want you to feel motivated to give sewing a try and get creative. I think creativity is good for us especially as Mums. We can get so stuck in our everyday repetition, but spending some me-time creating something is a great way to unwind, prioritise our needs and use our brains in a different way to the everyday. Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram @mymummakes.marie to see more of what I’m up to.
    GET TO KNOW US:
    * Where are you from? South Australia
    * What sewing machine do you use? Janome DC2150 - would definitely recommend Janome, can’t go wrong.

So cute! I’d never considered waders for kids but after seeing how much fun your trio were having it’s very inspiring.

Maree would this fabric be ok for school smocks , I want some thing that does not have the paint go through her school cloths ? previously i have made a smock out of curtain material but this look nicer??

Yes it's perfect for an art smock and funnily enough that's the video that is going up next on my channel! I've made my kids art smocks using PUL fabric (this is more waterproof) but this soft shell fleece would work too though it's only water repellent rather than entirely water proof. Check back on September 4th for the tutorial 💞
