Yeah I totally get everyone's comments about the 'Gong Master'. Sven definitely knows how to play a Gong, but actually the 'Master' part in the title is referring to the fact that he is the master craftsman overseeing and tuning these Gongs for Paiste. In 2016 Sven gave me a demo of the 80" Symphonic Gong. It built up to a huge roar with just a few small taps as you can see on the vid, the recording I made on my phone cant really do justice to the sound live. Yeah I know its tempting to want to see this thing hit hard and that surely would be satisfying, but actually youll get a much louder sound if you build up the vibrations slowly and will avoid putting it out of tune.
I really think you should pin this message. Hope it helps people thinking the same thing

Incredible! I never realized proper application of the mallet produces a sympathetic response. I always thought is was all about smacking it. Now my life knowledge is complete. Sven seems quite satisfied with his artisanal grasp. Well done!

Absolutely wonderful. There is nothing as satisfying as witnessing an artisan at work. Amazing sounds, made so effortlessly. This man really knows what he’s doing and you can see he really enjoys his work. I wonder how many sci-fi movie directors have watched this and suddenly realised THAT is the sound effect I’m looking for!!! Thank you for posting.

It takes courage to be a Gong Master. You need resistance over your evil self who doesn't want anything but to strike that Gong with one's all might. The removal of temptation to strike it with barely any force shows the resistance against the evil.

I’m very amazed how the sound waves grow in intensity! Just a few light hits and then it becomes overwhelming.
When he touched it first time I was not even sure it made any sound, but then I realized it was still growing. Not what I had expected to be honest. I thought more in the lines of hit it and see what the next seismograph 150 miles away recorded

@@shable1436 I was not sure if he even tapped it in the first place when nothing happened. I did not exactly expect the sound to build up and grow in volume over some seconds. Must have hit the resonant frequency of that thing somehow when he did his taps
