Hinduism is not a centralised religion with a Caliph or a pope . Hence it is factually impossible to invite any single hindu spiritual leader to help the opening ceremony . Instead many leaders from different sects were invited .
Hinduism also treats the king as an expansion of God . Not in literal sense but because the administrative power of the cosmos is flowing through the king . In a modern democracy however there is no king . So in such events the prime minister or the president is substituted as the Raja . Same thing happens in Nepal too . Hence Modi was a defacto choice for consecrating a mandir that was to be dedicated for the nation ( jati ) .
Speaking of amicable exchange of the masjid site , that is an utopia ! No Muslim body would have let it go ! Court cases , appeals , prayers , petitions , riots , violences have been on at that site for atleast 200 years now ! With no avail !
