Out promoting his new memoir “I Am Charlie Wilson,” we hear the classic Gap Band front man speak candidly on everything from his incredible friendship with Snoop Dogg to 20 years sober to his take on people glorifying drugs in music.
Just finishing up playing Essence Festival for the ninth year in a row, Wilson speaks on always keeping things fun as he outlines some of his favorite Gap Band memories. From record executives telling him he was washed up to finding a genuine friendship with Snoop Dogg, Wilson explains how their relationship started and all the things that Snoop has done for him.
With more hits than most modern day artists, Wilson outlines his experiences working with some of the industries greatest in Pharrell, Kanye and even Pimp C.

I always credit Johnny Gill and K-Ci for my generation, but for the 70's and 80's, it's all about Stevie Wonder and Charlie Wilson. I just love the way they sing. @@simonsez1787 Your list is correct until R. Kelly & K-Ci - R. Kelly never sounded anything like Aaron - if you really listen to R. Kelly, especially his blue album, his vocal influence is really the Isleys, this why he did some collabos with them and K-Ci' vocals were more gospel.
@@rikkidgermano9640 I don’t think Kelly sounds like Aaron, nor K-Ci sounds like Kelly. My arrows at the time were more to indicate their order of stardom since Stevie, and there was a “sound” that trended in the 90s that they followed. But yeah, they don’t sound alike to a deeper fan’s ear. Both K-Ci and Aaron have an Apostolic influence tho.
