If there is a different height building and shear wall is added to it, then will the same combination load be added to it or will there be some other extras?
same... load combinations depends on type of structure, soil type and building geometry not on structural system.... for seismic analysis.... for IS.1893.1-2016
All the things depends upon building configuration/soil/seismic zone ... for consideration of load combinations there are some provisions for considering load combination for seismic analysis for which we need to consider building is orthogonal or not... structure lies in which seismic zone, soil type, etc.... and by.... considering all those factors we need to consider load combinations for particular case i.e., for 30% load in other direction and 30% vertical earthquake effect in same combo as per Cl.6.3 of IS 1893.1-2016 *also, Consider respective design standard for type of structure (concrete-456/steel-800)
Hi, Akshay Thakur defining 50 design load combinations and 33 service load combinations is a time taking process and there is a possibility of occurring man-made errors I mean typo. are there any other options that make the definition of loads make easier. like can I make the template with these load combinations for repeated use?
Method 1: you can define design load combinations by ETABS itself by Default Design Combo Option but for serviceability you need to define manually... for Indian Standards Method 2: copy text for load combination data from existing model by ETABS .e2k text file to your model .e2k file to save the time and within minute you can define all load combinations
i have also metioned in excel sheets as discliamer that it is content is for education use only not for commercial, in real-life project there are many more things you need to consider that i have also not discussed in video lectures mostly about stuctural planning and detailing of structural elements. This course is just a part of what actual process that structural engineer do, but not whole ....
Can we apply wind load and earth quake load at the same time? Doesn't it show any error? Because in STAAD pro we can't assign both the loads at the same time. Am I right? If I'm wrong could you correct me?
you can apply EL & WL load at same time, but actually your structural members are going to design for load combinations that what you define and there is no any load combination as per Indian Standard which allow EL & WL in same combination... so it is not about how many different loads you applied at a same time but it all depends on which load combinations you use, which actually governs the design... basically design is goven through design load combination, and load combination include different loads.
in some case of high-rise buildings wind tunnel analysis is perform and also stiffness modifiers are used as per IS 16700: 2017 to design the tall building structure and design results are compared with seismic dyanmic analysis (Response Spectrum/Time History) and final design is chosen for governing loads...
refer table 18 in IS 456:2000, & accordingly for your load cases prepare load combinations for design and serviceability respectively... kept in mind IS 1893 clauses for seismic load combinations for specific cases like building orthogonality and vertical seismic load
then define two seperate load patterns; in load pattern one is for =3kN/m2 and under mass source apply respective factor and for load combination both in should be there where ever Live Load.
right, make sure roof live load should be roof live as in load pattern and do not need to include in mass source but needed to include in load combination.... here in this course i have consider roof live under normal live load pattern.
replacement of EL static load case with its dynamic load case but as per soil and structure type all changes needed in combinations as per IS 1893.1-2016
Load Combinations are same as per Design Standard and Provisions of Earthquake Code for respective type of Material... only the thing is for such structures appropriate loads need to be applied carefully...
IS 3370 is for requirements for structural design, you need to follow IS 456 for concrete design... same for load combinations.... if you are doing analysis and design in ETABS then for soil pressure and water pressure you need to define spefic different load patterns and apply the load through this procedure....

no, for non-orthogonal building structure load combinations should be as per IS 1893 (Part-1)
