I was 3 years old when I first remember hearing this song in 1975. My mom would play this song on the eight track player we had every Saturday morning while cleaning the apartment and even though I was only three and didn't understand the meaning of the song, it still made me feel so sad and I would cry. This is one of my earliest memories and has stayed with me all this time. Now, my mom has passed away (it's been almost 30 years) and my eyes still fill up with water when I listen to this song even more so now that I understand the true meaning of his words. Sad but such a beautiful song😥😥

Never said goodbye to my best friend ,my mom after taking care of her for two years both day and night .being so tired l fell asleep and when I woke up she had passed ,never made a sound .it is so sad ,I was always there for her my heart breaks that I never said goodbye.people tell me that god and the angels wanted to spare me from seeing her pass.maybe I dont know,this beautiful song makes me cry and enge sings it like an angel

I read in an an article that when his agent heard the lyrics to the song and the music he was positive that it would be the No. 1 on the charts and for some reason it never was so popular, which is sooo weird for me because it is a gorgeous song. Maybe the sadness caused people to vote against it, so as not to be reminded of how fragile life is?

7/13/17 - on 8/4/17 my hubby will be gone for 30 years. I took him the ER and told him I would be in the waiting room. I never saw him alive again. I hope he knew how much he was loved. I miss him so much. However he gives back to us everyday. He was in the military for 26 years and I still have all my benefits to this day.
