Bounty Killer has declared that he fully embraces Afrobeats music, and says the genre should not be pitted against Dancehall.
In responding to the question whether “Dancehall music still has a place on the international market with the emergence of Afrobeats,” during an I Never Knew TV interview, Bounty said that the two genres should be left to co-exist harmoniously and not be constantly compared or seen as one replacing the other.
“Afrobeat has nothing to do with Dancehall. Afrobeat is another genre. Afrobeat never came in competition with Dancehall or came with intent to take something from Dancehall. I don’t know why people keep on comparing Afrobeat and Dancehall. Why? Afrobeat is like a baby from Dancehall; it’s a relative,” Bounty stated.
“Afrobeat and Jamaican music is similar music. Africa and Jamaican music and I’m so happy so happy for Afrobeat. Music originate in Africa from the Congo beat. Africa finally have a sound, so I’m excited and Afrobeats not taking nothing from Dancehall. Afrobeats complements Dancehall. Si Nicki Minaj and Skeng deh all ova pon Dancehall beats,” he added.

To me, Afrobeats is the natural African colloquial sounds with a little R&B, a little Soca in it! It’s INTL a mix of different rhythms 🔥🔥🔥🔥 and creates fire

WRONNNNNNNG!!! Modern Afrobeats stole its drum pattern from the same place that Reggaeton and Funky house did. Just listen to murder she wrote by Chaka Demus and pliers, as well as Dem bow by Shabba. It sounds EXACTLY THE SAME. 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲

And dancehall stole its drum pattern from west Africa. Because how come there wasn't any dancehall until AFRICANS FROM AFRICA were brought to the Caribbean Islands ?

@@Music-yq8qc You might believe that foolishness, but black people in Jamaica are INDIGENOUS to that land. Jamaicans and africans are NOT THE SAME PEOPLE. We look better, we cook better, we’re smarter, faster and our MUSIC is the BEST. 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲

Bounty Killer is a legend first and foremost. What he said can easily be taken out of context. This Afrobeats vs Dancehall is something that don't make sense. Both are different genres and there will always be songs that are universally accepted and some will stay local. Lyrics or no lyrics. Music is about rhythm. It's something you feel. This is why some people from different countries with different languages feel certain songs but have no idea the meaning of the lyrics. Much like most songs in the 90s and early 00s mainstream in the Western world are very s3xual and if you're yute growing up. You don't know any better but you're feeling the songs.

No my friend... Bounty killa didn't say affobeat is a baby to dancehall. He said afrobeat is a baby from dancehall. The word "from" denotes its a derivative of the dancehall genre as well as afrobeat been a younger genre of music. He is not comparing the genres based on status (inferiority or superiority).
Secondly, afrobeat is not as heavily driven with an overload of lyrics but filled with melody which makes it very appealing. This doesn't mean afrobeat is not lyrical. It is lyrical but I think due to the language barrier what is been said is not understood. Also, I think much more can be expressed using less words in African languages vs say most English based creole like patois. Dancehall is very lyrically driven. It's bars construction is heavily worded, raw and most times grimey. It has melody and a musical pattern as well but a lot of emphasis is not placed on the songs having a groovy melody.
Dancehall has it's space as well as afrobeat. 😊

From what my ears hear, Afrobeats has more of a traditional 3 or 4 chord progression, pop music sound. (Hence it's popularity) The melodies are catchy and its good to dance to. Most of it is what I call "Wedding" or "Celebration" music. Nothing wrong with that at all and of course there probably are artist who can pen more thought provoking lyrics over it.

It wasn’t just Burna, I can even say when Burna was extremely lyrical in his songs he wasn’t very commercial (pre-Ye) respectfully correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe that's why we get two or three of such songs on his projects to remind people of his pen game. IJS
I can say the same for Kizz Daniel, he is another talent that was given lyrical substance but didn't take him anywhere, dropped BUGA and the rest is history. We have a handful of artists not just Nigerians whose pen game is top-notch but have yet to be commercially successful. I guess few Afrobeats listeners don't wanna struggle with understanding complicated lyrics that don't cut across. The world is complicated enough yes we want songs that translate the average person's struggle but importantly the vibe, comfort, and groove it give. Thank you for reading my post
S.N. respectfully disagrees with no insults. Thanks.
