Rem...I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on the remix of ATMP...Thank you for a very honest review, featuring your true thoughts and feelings...rather than what other people wanted to hear.

Completely agree I like the wall of sound on ATMP and don’t care for the 50th aniversary new mix but prefer Let it Be Naked over the wall of sound on original sometimes it works other times not so much (really enjoy the channel and your thoughts on a lot of the vinyl discussed)

    Great video, Rem!
I‘ve always been happy enough with the Spector-ized version of ATMP but have also always been intrigued with the idea of remixing it to improve the clarity of the overall album.
Unfortunately I feel like this mix leans a bit too far in the opposite direction-where the original was maybe too muddy at times, this one is maybe a bit too dry. The original has this ethereal, dream-like sound to it that really fits the songwriting and gives it a sense of mystique. This one strips that away just a little too much for my liking and kinda neuters some songs. On the other hand, some of the more acoustic songs really shine with the layers of reverb stripped off, and there are so many little details brought out here that I have never noticed before.
All that said, there’s still a novelty to the new remix and I think the experience it provides, while fundamentally different, is still enjoyable and intriguing. I’m glad it exists. I can still envision a mix somewhere in between these that could be perfect though.
TLDR: a bit of a mixed bag!

I definitely agree! I got my “All things must pass” vinyl last Christmas so I don’t see myself buying it either. I must say I absolutely love the new version of “Run of the mill” I think it sounds fantastic! Loved this video

REM, I agree totally with you, especially regarding the Spector aural enchantment on The Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp, from the original release (as well as 2001 and 2014 versions....)

Absolutely agree re Let It Down and the title track. Let It Down's a great song, drowned by the Wall of Sound. ATMP souded great back then but the 2020 mix is even better. My Sweet Lord doesn't fare so well.

The wall of sound effect is still everywhere on the new remix. They just made it clearer , that's all.

Maybe so! but it still has a much drier sound and I just personally am not a fan.

I will be sticking with the nice vintage copy on vinyl that I was lucky to find. But I am thinking about getting the new edition on cd. Thanks for the video on this :)

I prefer the 30th anniversary all things must Pass. That’s the one George did himself on the remaster of that LP. On the notes, he says he had a hard time not remixing a lot of the songs back then. But he just remastered the originalsI think it sounds better than the original. And better than the 50th. It was the last album he had a hands-on for he died. And that’s the one I’ll stay with.

I don't like the new mixes and all things considered, my favorite set is the 30th Anniversary set that George himself did the remastering on. The new mixes sound awkward and sterile to me and the thumping bass is a big problem, to my ears.

Yeah, I just can't listen past that thumping bass, it just doesn't suit the music.

I think the bass is much too loud on the 2020 remix of the album. I also don't like how they "flattened" the horn sections and echo, which makes the sound compressed. Lost is the "bigness" of the tracks. I actually don't like the 2020 remix. Pulling George's vocals to the front was also a mistake, as George's voice now sounds thin and the limits of his vocal-range is now apparent where it wasn't before. Phil Spector made the right decision to "pad" George's vocals with lots of sound.

I'm so glad that a woman (finally!) is doing this! I've owned the original 1971 box, and always thought that it would have been a sensational single album. The third disc (drunken and drugged musicians jamming badly) is unlistenable, and quite a few of the actual songs are tedious - I cannot stand 'Isn't It a Pity', for instance - but the classics still hit home. 'What Is Life', 'Run of the Mill', 'My Sweet Lord' and 'I'd Have you Anytime' are beauties all. Well done for a great post - let's have more please!

I do like the remixed version. I got the 3cd set from Target with the stickers. And the outtakes are definitely nothing to write home about. Let's be honest George Harrison's voice was average at best and the outtakes are dreadful.

I have to disagree with you when it comes to George Harrison’s voice. Whilst it isn’t as good as Paul McCartney and other iconic singers. It’s better than John Lennon’s voice a lot of the time and listening to The White Album, Abbey Road, ATMP and cloud nine, George showcases incredible vocals that I believe are much better than average.
However I agree that the outtakes could have been better as they weren’t very interesting.
