Kuga, here in the U.K. if we get 2cm of snow our whole country grinds to a halt, our schools close, our trains stop running and everything grinds to a standstill. Lovely video showing us how it should be done.
That's because we have literally become a nation of 'health and safety' snowflakes 🌨️.... It wasn't always thus in the UK. The trains still ran in very heavy snow in the 'great freeze' in the 60's for example.
I didnt realise till I started watching channels about Japan, I thought places like Canada, Russia, Norway etc would be the worst but Japan has massive snowfall.. I never knew, so grateful for youtube, I am learning so much about other countries.
We have taken the Toki Shinkansen from Ueno Station numerous times but never continued on further than Echigo-Yuzawa. So it was interesting to see what the trip to Niigata city is like. We love Echigo-Yuzawa. It is readily accessible from Tokyo and you are right in the town when you get off the train. We love the hotel we always stay at, which is visible from the station entrance and can be seen in the opening part of this video. There are lots of good places to eat at the Shinkansen Station and there are lots of ski resorts, a couple of which are right in the town. Some fun facts about Echigo-Yuzawa are: Yasunari Kawabata (川端 康成) won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1968 for his novel Snow Country. It is set in this town and he was living there when he wrote it. It opens with a description of going through a long tunnel to suddenly appear in a snowy landscape - which is exactly what happens! The region is called Uonuma and it produces rice which is frequently rated as the best in Japan in the annual competition. You can buy humungous onigiri (the size of a softball) at the station made with this rice. They are delicious and make a great breakfast before a day skiing.
Watching the world pass by through the windows of the train gives me joy similar to watching the ground pass by when I fly. Cities that are ugly and dirty when you see them from the ground are pretty from the air especially at night. Thanks for taking us on a very nice ride in the snow.
In Europe there was hardly any snow this past winter because it all went to Japan. 😁So I am watching Japan videos to see the snowy scenery that I love so much. Thanks Kuga! 🥰💖🤗
Good evening Kuga. Nice to see another video of your adventure. Here in Montreal the train will still run but not above 5cm's I believe. Thank you for sharing. 😁
I live close to the 🇨🇦Canadian Rocky Mountains🇨🇦 ⛷🏂and we did not see a great deal of snow this year. However, it is March now and snow is forecast for this evening, so our winter lasts a lot longer. ☹❄⛄ Love your channel!
Thank you for your channel! Every time, I feel like I actually visited Japan for a moment. Because you are silent, an illusion arises that the presenter is absent, and what you see is your own observation.
I always love watching your videos. This was no exception. I envy Japanese infrastructure. Here in the north of England, where we had the first ever intercity train line, we have nothing as impressive as this.
143 mph in heavy snowfall 😁! And so beautiful! 🥰 Japan in Winter 😁🇯🇵! I love all the hot-springs around Japan - first saw that during’98 Winter Olympics in Nagano ❤️. The only scary part is that the circumstances that create the hot-springs also make Japan so earthquake-prone (joining-place of tectonic plates, part of the famed “ring of fire” around the Pacific).
Video için teşekkürler. Gerçekten kar yağışı çok yoğun. Trenlerin bu hava şartlarında sorunsuz çalışması iyi. Japonya'nın en fazla kar alan bölgesi nin burası olduğunu öğrendim. Şimdi Türkiye'nin Doğu Bölgelerinde de kar tünelleri açıldığını biliyor muydunuz?
Thanks for posting this trip, it was very relaxing to watch. I was wondering if life is getting back to normal now in Japan, with easing of travel restrictions. Your train trips always seem so uncrowded, not like I remember when I was in Japan many years ago.
Kuga, in my point of view (could be wrong) just after 4:31 and at certain angles the E2 Shinkansen looks a little like Star Wars character General Grievous. I also love flying thru the snow at high speed.
I'm glad you're making videos. I like to watch the "sleeper train" videos after dark in bed while eating snacks. I like to pretend I'm there too, and I mean that in the least weird way 😂
god bless and protect the hard workers at JR Railway for going outta their way to make sure the japanese people can get safely to and from work on the shinkansen while in this winter craziness and god bless and protect you mr kuga-san for going outta your way to bring us train fans like myself these awesome videos of your travels🙏📿🗾🏣🏯🎎. 久我さん、ありがとう、そして安全に Kuga-san, arigatō, soshite anzen ni
A new video, and still heavy snow in Japan? Thank you for keeping up to take us with you! I do desperatly hope to visit Japan this year... That this video is uploaded shows me, you are alrigth Kuga? Have you experienced the earthquake?
Niigata is *NOT* as snowy as some people think. That's because the geographical "shadow effect" of Sado Island keeps most of the heavy snowfall away from Niigata city itself.
Excellent video, as usual. Just astonished train clocked 200kph+ in heavy snow. Curious to see how those office cars are configured. Do the seats turn to face one another, like they appear around 11:00?
Were those seats moving? Also what’s a office car is that like business class or something or is it more like a car with individual rooms where you can hold meetings and whatnot?
If there is so much snow. Might as well make ice kachang drip with coconut syrup.😛 if there is hand bath in station. Can you bring your own eggs n make onsen egg? Just asking . Thank you!😀

When I was a kid in Canada schools would only close if the snow got out of control aka a blizzard
Honestly, with all of the terrible things going on in the world, watching a new video from you is a very welcome relief 😊
I do agreee.
Amazing that they can do that with such speed during a heavy snow day!!
I have added Niigata to my ever evolving 3rd Japanese holiday itinerary.
I am yet to find another country as perfect as Japan.
I knew it snows in beautiful Japan, but I didn’t imagine that it is so heavy..!! Beautiful..!!
Thank you Kuga. Wishing you safe travelling in this beautiful country of yours. Have a blessed day 😇🙏
Fantastic trains, scenery, stations,
everything so clean and modern.
I think a lot people in the west don’t realize that Japan gets the most snow on the planet!

You arrived on the little train that could. And you left on a flying snow train. That's a trip I'd like to do.

Spinklers to melt snow on the tracks: The Deutsche Bahn here in Germany will never understand. Nice greetings to you Kuga!
I only want to comment, WOW that water melting system is soo basic and creative
Calm and interesting video as always! So relaxing. Hope you are all safe in Japan now!
I have visited Echigo Yuzawa just 2 days ago. Lovely town and you can feel their slow paced life.
Thank you for sharing Kuga :)
The German ICE travels 300kmh. Great video. I am always so impressed how clean Japan is.

Echigo Yuzawa is a fun place! I am a sake somelier, so the sake museum/vending machines at the station is so much fun!!
Wow! So amazing! Really impressed with this video! Enjoyed it 100%!
Unbelievable how much snow Japan has gotten this year.
Beautiful trip, Kuga. Thank you!
“It makes me feel I’m back in Canada again”. “Though I haven’t been there before “ 🤣
I wouldn't call this snowfall "massive", but ANY snow is better than none. Winter is THE best!
Thank you for so many wonderful videos and stunning train journeys!
i run this train on all my long haul lines in transport fever 2, love the looks
