💕How to Make INSTANT POT YOGURT and SLOW COOKER YOGURT!!!

  • That's right, I'm back today friend sharing all about how to make Instant Pot yogurt and how to make slow cooker yogurt. Yes, you can make homemade yogurt in the Instant Pot. You can also make easy Crockpot yogurt with very basic ingredients.
I wanted to share how I use the same yogurt recipe to make Instant Pot Yogurt and slow cooker yogurt. I like to make yogurt in the slow cooker if I'm going to be outside of the house often for a day. There are several steps where Crockpot yogurt sits for several hours. The longer in-between fooling with whatever I'm cooking the better for me, ha! However, there are also days where I just don't get out of the kitchen much, or I know I'll buzz back through shortly, and those are days I use the Instant Pot to make yogurt.
I also show you how I use a simple cheesecloth to drain the whey from both the Instant Pot yogurt and the yogurt from the slow cooker. Additionally, I share how we make homemade fruit smoothies with the whey, too!
Here are both my homemade Instant Pot Yogurt recipe and my Slow Cooker Yogurt recipe for you and your family to enjoy!! largefamilytab... - homemade yogurt recipe.
    SLOW COOKER YOGURT RECIPE
    1 Gallon Whole Milk
    1 Cup Plain Yogurt
Place 1 gallon of whole milk in the slow cooker on the low setting for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. You want the yogurt to reach a temperature of 180°. After Yogurt reaches 180, unplug the crockpot and let it sit for another 3 hours or so. After 3 hours, whisk in 1 cup of plain vanilla yogurt. Wrap the Crockpot with a towel and let it sit (still unplugged) for 8 to 12 hours. For me, it always depends on when I’m able to head to bed and get up the next morning. Sometimes I’m not able to get right back to the yogurt when we wake up, and it still sits until after breakfast is finished. Once the yogurt is complete you can drain off the whey using the cheesecloth method I show in the video. Add honey or your favorite sweetener to your yogurt!
INSTANT POT YOGURT RECIPE - largefamilytab...
    1 Gallon Whole Milk
    1 Cup Plain Yogurt
Pour one gallon of yogurt in the IP and hit the “Yogurt” button. Hit the “Adjust” button until it reads “boil.” You can leave the lid off or on, makes no difference at this point. Once Yogurt boil cycle is complete (reaches temp of 180 degrees), take out the inner liner and let it sit on the counter for about an hour or so, until it reaches a temp of 110 degrees. Once 110-ish degrees is reached, whisk in the 1-cup of plain yogurt. Then hit the “Yogurt” function again on the Instant Pot. It will automatically be set for 8 to 8 1/2 hours.

As someone from a warm, tropical country (I am Indian), making yoghurt is the easiest thing in the world for us. We literally take whatever milk is leftover from the day, warm it up, let it cool down, and then add about a spoon of curd or yoghurt.
Voila, 5 hours later, the humidity and warmth in the air ensures that your milk is now yoghurt.
Its the first thing we teach kids how to do in the kitchen.
So watching you do this was very educational and also showed me a little bit about how the other half lives, I guess!
    Love from India

I’ve been doing instant pot yogurt! So easy! If you leave it on yogurt function up to 24 hours, it’ll be thick Greek yogurt! Tangier and more tart, good for making lots of other things, like dips, dressing & use instead of mayo. Thanks for the video ❤️

Its been a year that I make my own yogurt. I boil the milk then I let it cool till it doest burn my pinky finger then I add 2 spoons of yogurt for each 1 liter of milk and let it stay under a blanket for 12 hours. Then I put it in fridge and comes out very solid and good

Alternatively, I heat my milk, add the starter, pour it in quart jars and pack them in a cooler with a thick blanket. I do that around bedtime. It's ready when I get up in the morning, and it's in containers already, to go straight to the fridge.

I love making IP yogurt, and prefer my yogurt pretty thick. I ordered some cheap coffee filters from Amazon - the ones for those huge church-sizes coffee pots. I layer a few in my strainer and pour in the yogurt. Works like a charm!

I make IP yogurt as well. After my gallon of milk has finished the boil cycle, I skim off the skin, whisk in around 3/4 cup of milk powder until dissolved, then I ladel about one cup of the hot milk into a large measuring cup, whisk in 3/4 of a can of sweetened condensed milk, about a tbsp of vanilla extract, and my yogurt starter. When mixed I add it back to the pot, put the lid on and let it do it's thing for 8 hours. It comes out the creamiest yogurt I've ever had, almost like pudding consistency. My kids love it. No straining, and it works every single time. You can also do it without vanilla or sweetener if you want plain yogurt. My family just prefers a mildly sweet vanilla yogurt as a breakfast with granola and chia on top, or berries or chopped dates and or prunes, or raisins... It's also a great yogurt for smoothie making 👍 from research I have done, and tried, I find adding the milk powder makes a thicker yogurt, with higher protein ... I made yogurt without the powder for years, and still do occasionally if I need a thinner yogurt, but with the powder it's so good. Worth the try 😉

Thank you for showing us how to make it in th crockpot and instant pot. I made it for years, I would do the 180* and the let it cool to 110* but I would put it in mason jars and wrap towels around it. I learned to set th RNA’s on jars on a hot pad, put a large pot over it and wrap the whole thing in a couple of large towels. I never drained it though unless it was runny. I also made farmers cheese by letting a cup or so drain for a very long time and would be the consistency of cream cheese and taste a little like it also.

Usually, I do one method or the other and let it ride. But for this video, I made both the Instant Pot and Slow Cooker variations. My favorite lazy mom way is to get two 8 qt slow cookers going in the afternoon for homemade yogurt. That way I still have my pressure cookers available for other things. I just use them all so much 😜

I made yogurt last week with no whey in it, love it - I used 1/2 gallon of milk with 1/2 gallon of dry powered milk. Seriously good. I made the same thing yesterday and today and there was some whey(liquid) in it. Not a lot, but enough to bother you or me at least. I didnt time anything, just used temp which was the same and when it was set as a timer. I had the milk in the freezer and it was still partly frozen when I did the first half gallon so more condensed for the first half gallon. But that 1/2 gallon worth of powered milk seems like it would compensate. Id like it to get it down to no liquid in it ever. Watching everyone make yogurt I dont think any made it the same. Some let it be at 200 degrees for 20 mins before letting it cool down to 115 and it worked and was said to made a thicker yogurt. Still the taste of both the yogurts I made where very mellow which I loved.

I’ve made the Crockpot version and let it sit overnight about 12 hours. It was much thicker than yours, with much less whey. But did not come out bitter like some say it does. It was fabulous. I then took some of it and did strain it for a couple of hours to further thicken it into Greek style yogurt. It was just fabulous. I served it with honey and fresh blueberries. 😊

I filled up my sink with cold water to cool down faster then I added the Vanilla and Sweeteners then pour in to jars and I placed all the jars in the Microwave and left the Microwave STOVE lights On Overnight... The Stove lights kept inside the microwave warm. ... 6 to 8 hrs.. I have Greek Yougurt in the mornight... ilove it it's Very Thick and So Creamy.... will get much thicker in the fridge too... I love making yogurt in my instant pot. I found that if I remove the seal ring from the lid, I don’t get the funky smells. I also bought a glass lid for my instant pot, I use it while making yogurt and to cool off the milk. That way I don’t get the film on the milk.
I always throw away the whey. I wonder what else I could do with it?

This is fantastic. Im going to have to try this. Can you do it with fruit too? of is it better to add when we go to eat it? Also do you have any tips and tricks for some one with a baby channel?

What a fabulous video! Your little Benjamin with the Swiffer - love it!!!
I just found your channel last night and so enjoyed your presentation.
I am curious. Why the crockpot yogurt out on the counter all night & the IP yogurt in the fridge?

My mom made vanilla milk for me when the cousins and my brother had chocolate and strawberry milk. I preferred vanilla too. ☺

I make yogurt in my instant pot. I cannot get the spicy smell out of my seal so I ordered a couple of extra ones and save them just for yogurt and desserts.
I use fairlife milk which eliminates the first part of heating the milk. I just have to pour my milk and set my pot for 8 hours. When the 8 hours is over I just drain it. I bought a yogurt strainer from Amazon and just let it strain overnight in the fridge. It’s so easy and so so delicious!!

I had several minutes I filmed in this video where I shared about buying the extra seals. My editor son didn't leave that part in and I had no time to have it edited again, sigh. But yes, buy the extra seals ladies, if you'd like for the IP yogurts. xoxo

You can actually make the yogurt sweetened. Six sisters stuff has an amazing video....just add in a can of sweetened condensed milk. 3 ingredients. So thick no need to drain or any of that nonsense. Give it a try !!!!!
I made it a few days ago and it turned out amazing. And I accidentally used a sweetened plain greek yogurt as my starter and it still turned out perfect. It takes 8 hours....no boil, no steps, nothing!!!

Hi Jamerrill! I love making yogurt both ways as well. They are both really convenient. I have an easy tip that I know I didn’t make up, but have been using for years. Use coffee filters spread out in a colander to strain your yogurt. You get the most beautiful clear whey and clean up is a breeze. Just throw those coffee filters away. I have a Keurig and don’t use coffee filters for coffee. But they are cheap and I always have them on hand for crafting and things in the kitchen. (As a homeschool mama I’m sure you know of all of the fun coffee filter crafts you can do with your kiddos). Also, some people don’t strain the whey from their yogurt. They just mix it in. This gives you the same consistency you get from most store bought yogurts. Straining it makes a Greek style yogurt. And if you strain it until it’s even thicker it is great for dips! Almost like a cross between sour cream and cream cheese. Love you and your channel! 😘

For years I didn't strain the whey, either. It's easier for my kiddos at least to have the whey strained for when they serve themselves. I'll try the coffee filter trick, too! xoxo

Jamerrill Stewart, Large Family Table I’m a strainer too! I like it thick and creamy and I love using the whey in other things. I’m so excited that you had a moment to see my comment. Yay!

Why do you have to heat the milk to 180? Can you just heat it to 110? Sometimes mine doesn't stay warm enough during incubation. Do I plug the crock pot in for a while?

I prefer my instapot yogurt. I like that I can use the saute bottom to bring it up to temp stiring it often of course and then I cool it down in ice water add the yogurt set the instapot to yogurt setting leave it for 16 hours easy peesy.
I'm lactose intolerant so I use the ultra filtered milk called fair life. I find it works much better at making yogurt. I strain it because I love greed yogurt.
