Thanks for all of your work on Aperty, and thanks for the complete workflow video! I think I will be working out of Bridge & LR first, at least for now, but will try Aperty for the entire workflow as well. The only bit I'm not doing right how is the HSL editing. Do you have any recommended resources for learning how to get started with HSL editing?
I might be in a minority, but I dont like the practice to keep changing software name instead of committing to one. Skylum gave us Luminar 4, then Luminar AI, then Luminar NEO and now Aperty? everytime I spend money on the software and then templates for then to become forgotten. why not keep developing a core piece of software.
Luminar Neo is more dedicated to travel/landscape photography edits whereas Aperty is a portrait orientated editing software. They are still actively working on Neo while also creating Aperty, Aperty is not meant to replace Neo
Great tips on colour and your overall process! Not sure how much you've worked this out in a descriptive way, but I would love a more technical explanation on shadows and highlight changes. I see this from RUclips photographers on the regular, namely that contrast goes out, then it goes in, then out, then in, etc. I understand blacks, shadows, and the tone curve all affect darks differently, but I never really hear rationale for why all the sliders are being moved, to what degree, and whether or not it's actually necessary to do that.
Thank you! Using just the contrast slider will evenly change the shadows and highlights simultaneously, which works sometimes. But other times I need to adjust them separately hence I use the individual version of the slider. Eg I want the highlights to be -70 but the shadows to only be +20. I then use those sliders to do the main tonal corrections of my image and the curve tools to either add a creative flair to the tones (eg. crushed blacks) or very slightly tweak the tones.
I contacted support about it but I'd really like a watermark tool within the export button, so being able to have a written text and/or image and have the option to export with or without it akin to lightroom. Could you confirm that's in the works down the line? I also wonder why there isn't any option when exporting a set of photos to decide a new naming convention as I have the raw image naming convention straight from the camera into a project and when I've done my selects from them as you mentioned you do yourself at the 2:06 mark to then have the option to mark the whole set of pictures with that new naming convention and then add a _01 , _02 etc at the end of them within the final export folder. Also a feature I remember from lightroom, is that in the works as well and will be added, and if not is there a reason? Seems like it should be there given that aperty should be an all in one solution which included file managing imho.
Hopefully they add dodge and burn retouching to face and body. Also dodge and burn face and body global adjustments for depth. Also some make up features would be nice for blush and stuff.
We have lots of plans in the works! We do currently have great blush tools, you can change the style of blush, placement and tone of the blush as well. We also have contouring and highlight makeup tools for the face which are very similar to dodge and burn. I will make another video showing these soon!
Hey hello Julia what do you think about the Sony a6400 I want to buy some equipment and lens I like portrait so much and this can work for video too ??
The tool needs quite a bit of improvement to be closer to some of the other ai portrait tools out there, bit it is a promising first version/release. But i find it a little curious that they didn't either improve Neo's portrait features or have a workflow that works with Neo, especially when they are supporting Adobe plugins.
It's peak Skylum strategy to not support software long term but rather bring out a new version. Luminar 3, 4, AI, Neo, now this, possibly missed some haha.
@@BurningBroadcast Aperty is not meant to replace Neo, they are still actively working on Neo as it's a landscape/travel photography editing software vs Aperty which is portrait orientated.
Julia Hi, it's a nice program, maybe you have such a video, but if not, it would be great if you made a tutorial on how to calibrate your computer/monitor so that the photos on the monitor match the color of reality. I don't know that. So even if I edit a photo on my laptop, I have no idea how my photo looks in reality.
@@juliatrotti Julia, thanks for your reply. Maybe it's not interesting for most photographers. But I'm an amateur enthusiast, and I often wonder what RGB Adobe is for and what sRGB is for, 8 bit color depth vs 16 bit, will it make a significant difference when I print the photo, or does it not matter to an ordinary person how to set the colors, calibrate them, and how to make multiple applications Photoshop, Gimp. etc displayed the photo in the same way. I will definitely be happy with such a video.
Make all the adjustments you want to save as a preset to your photo, then open the preset panel and press the + button in the top right hand corner of that panel to save the preset :)
Hello, I have the Aperta version 1.0.1 (611) and I don't have the Body Skin retouch option, it only works for the face. I am generally disappointed with the operation and fluidity of the application.
I can't recommend this over evoto yet. I was really kinda disappointed. It's lacking key features for a portrait photographer. Also no tethering., like come on...
On top of having most of Lightroom's raw develop tools, we also have all our retouching tools. You would have to use Photoshop to be able to retouch like this using dodge and burn or frequency separation technique which takes skill and a lot of time to achieve results. With Aperty, you can achieve that with just a slider in a matter of seconds :)
I am not convinced Skylum is exploiting the benefits of NPU or modern GPUs in latest computers (Intel Ultra 100s, 200s, Ryzen AI, Snapdragon, M-based macs). whenever i use Luminar AI, I see CPU at 100% and the NPU and GPU almost unused. is Aperty better optimized?
Julia, yesterday I saw your old videos that are 6-7 years old. You haven't changed :)
Hahah maybe just a little more confident speaking to the camera
@@juliatrotti yes, but the voice and face are just as pleasant :)
So happy to have this new software available! Great work! Nice tip to keep the shirt white 😍
Thanks and me toooo!
I have had it for about a week. have edited several photos using it. The results are great and cannot wait to shoot more and edit with Aperty.
That's so great to hear Steven! Thank you

I feel the same. I’m using Luminar Neo and Aperty for some time and still for quality I prefer Lightroom and Photoshop

Jeez, that flyaway hair. Needs to be taken into Evoto now, especially as you said it was so good
I was interested in this until I saw the price of the software.
Love your work!

What laptop do you use Julia...?
I use an M1 Ultra Mac Studio
Would be wonderful if Body Skin actually was in the product! It is not which renders this product for me useless …
I share your opinion exactly
Body Skin is currently still a Beta tool, but will be added into the release version of Aperty soon
I have a question. How does the plugin feature for photoshop work? Doesn't want to show up.... super keen to get into this software though!
For me when installing Aperty gave me option to add both plugins for Lightroom and PS.
Yes, you should have an option to add the plugins. If you're having trouble, you can contact Skylum support to help you get it working!
Just curious. In my version there is no "Body Skin" in the Retouch sheet. Do you have a newer one, or there is something not ok with my version?

I'm curious why you label the date backwards. Easier to sort through?
I do that so my folders stay in chronological order
skin face smoothing is not working nothing happens better to say with my version 1.01. and body skin smoothing part doesent exist..
How I can save my preset.
Make all the adjustments you want to save as a preset to your photo, then open the preset panel and press the + button in the top right hand corner of that panel to save the preset :)
Please make an iPad Pro version !!
