    Two days in a row of the exact lessons I needed. I’ve got a couple birch trees with just horrible chops and transition. I’ll be emulating you yet again, good sir.
    I sure do appreciate you, Nigel.

    You could get a little dog figurine if you're gonna go down the Chernobyl forest route. Just saw a documentary recently about the wild dogs of Chernobyl that are the descendants of all the pets that got left behind. Really sad, but still inspiring that life found a way, even after a nuclear reactor meltdown! The "exclusion zone" will remain basically a nature reserve for the next 20,000 years, which is a really cool thing to think about.

    Elegant(ish) elms dealt with deftly! Not sure about the Chernobyl notion really but a small rusting Lada could work. They're Siberian so a small group of yaks would look fine, chewing their cud and sheltering...

    Forest is looking great! You seem to have used more “cut paste” of late. Am I accurate? Why the change?

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  2 года назад +4

      I started using it last year and it seemed to help with branch dieback. It allows you to prune closer without leaving a stub. With the clear cement, I can see if the branch or trunk is rotting beneath the cut. Maybe it's a phase or maybe it will become a more permanent technique?!!

    Hi Nigel....,a little cheap cut paste tip. I have always used brown plasticine and mixed it with Vaseline to the consistency I need, the Victorians used it as a cut paste. It will bleach in the sun and go a dark grey colour.

    I don't know if it's an issue in Canada or not. On the east coast of the United States, many elm trees are being attacked and even killed by an invasive insect called the emerald elm borer. I don't know if this will work or not but I know it will not harm anything. If you know anyone who has honeybees. you could ask them to sell or give you something called propolis. this is like a glue that some bees use to control insect pests from their nests. It is certainly worth a try.

    why is it so bad for trees to break dormancy early? i've seen it in nature and the trees were fine in the spring?

    • @rebeccahunter725
      @rebeccahunter725 2 года назад

      A tree in a pot is much more vulnerable, as it has fewer resources available and extremes are more problematic. A tree in the ground breaking dormancy before the worst of winter cold would be at significant risk as well.

    • @jeffncompany
      @jeffncompany 2 года назад

      @@rebeccahunter725 it's fairly common knowledge that a tree in a pot is more vulnerable. you didn't say anything here lol. fortunately, Nigel answers the question in his next vid
