Summer of 1993 was the first time I visited Galway. Eyre Square looking as it should still look, people selling their wares down by the wall in the shopping centre, the old early 90s cars. Great video; better times in every way.
I used to be brought on holidays here every year until about 1997. I loved it. Remember everything in this video. Remember being sent to buy Scratchy parking discs on shop street to park in the middle of eyre square. Mad to think of it now🤔
Jaysus Eyre Square looked much cleaner back then. Now it's a dirty kip. The only positive change I can see in the video is the pedestrianization of shop street. I couldn't imagine attempting to walk on that narrow footpath and keep wary of cars from both ways.!
That was Eyre Sq before it was destroyed??. if it is, the question is what was wrong with it that they had to destroy it? Same happened in Tullamore, O Connor Sq. Ruined and nobody was allowed to criticise it. Same happened in Clara, and now it is like an obstacle course. Moate, Athlone, Mullingar. Every bloody town in the country vandalised
haha Galway hasnt changed at all!! the only thing is that its dirtyer and there isnt as much trees!!! oh and that you cant drive in shop street any more!! lol

I'd say every kid from town at one point,had their picture taken with the Pauraic O'Conaire statue near the 2 black cannons near the Browne doorway

It's quite sad seeing Eyre Square the way it was, before they butchered it.
I studied at UCG in 1993 and this brings back a lot of memories. Thanks for posting it.
