Yes. In many cases the riders themselves would not have seen the bike either if they had been the ones driving. And they fail to understand that not everyone is an expert driver. Archie Pilcher - I see them all over in my area! They also constantly rev at lights. I’m embarrassed for them and back off so I don’t appear to be a part of that group
Very good content as usual. As a new rider in my early 40s one overarching observation I've had is that there is entirely too much of the ego at play in the motorcycle world, and this really is the basis for your valid commentary. I'm really put off when I encounter the factionalism within the community. Ride your ride, have fun, be safe. Old Zoroastrian code: good thoughts, good words, good deeds.
The Busa crowd seem to like stretching their swingarms...I even saw one with nitrous lol. Sean you missed a big one !! Drinking and riding bro !!! That has to be the dumbest.
My number one peeve, by far, is seeing a young child riding as passenger on a bike without a helmet. Adults have the right to make that stupid decision for themselves. I have a real problem, however, when you enforce that stupid decision on a child.
@@RantDuJour When you live in the southwest where the riding season is 12 months, it is not as uncommon as it should be. A common refrain that I get from the rider involved is, "We're just goin' for a short spin close to home."
Even with a helmet its stupid to let a kid ride on your bike. Why risk getting them killed or injured when they can't fully comprehend the risk or make a decision.
Kaufeetimevideo its funny because that was actually their branding and marketing tactics when Harley was dominating the market as the “rebel” bad boy bikes.

Number 5 ridding fast on the street. There are places where it's relatively safe to speed and there's places you should never speed, you got to be smart enough to know the difference.
Those "relatively safe" spots on our roads still have that one unknown variable lol a big fkn deer. I've had one jump down off a road bank right on top of my ass on a dirt bike and wreck the shit out of me! You can't get away from them!
As a rider since 1980 I agree with everything you said here. My first mc was a '71 Yamaha RD250, than a R 75/5, than in '84 I bought my current motorcycle a marvelous '77 R100RS, I have ridden it over 250,000 miles up and down the Alaska highway twice...
Good stuff Sean. Let us never succomb to the righteous attitudes that get folk on two wheels in a bad way. Assume any moving object is a potential problem. Assume others on the road do not see you. My first bike in Richmond Va had a license plate numbered 169. 51 years ago. The Harley guys gave me the finger. My bike was branded a Harley, made in Italy. Glad to see young guys like you speak the obvious truth about it all. Truth never changes,,,much. I appreciate the high quality of your road videos.
I'm 67 years old and do you want to know why us old farts crack the throttle at a light or stop sign? Habit, muscle memory because the bikes we grew up on would stall at a stop if you didn't crack the throttle. It's a hard habit to break.
I am 65 and have been riding since 1971. The only time I rev my Bonneville is when I am under an awning at a gas station. It sounds like a Bonnie's back in the 60's or 70's. That's when they put 80 decibel mufflers on at the factory, and not the 70 decibel ones of today. Nostalgia? Yes! Vaughn
@@jamesmcgrath1952 my first 2 bikes were Japanese so their carbs were a little better. I still wanted a Beezer or a Bonnie. I still remember back about 66' or 67' we had just left KC,MO about a mile east of Independence when a guy passed my dad doing about100 laying flat on his Bonnie going uphill. Dad had a few choice words to say about him, but I thought it was cool. Ever since then I had to get me a Bonnie. It was loud too. Vaughn
Exactly. They say ( look out for motorcycles ) but the other side of the coin is when you're on a motorcycle you have to ride responsibly. Ride the speed limit or less when riding through a town, there are driveways businesses and people darting in and out. If you're doing 60 in a 35 you have less time to react. Where a good jacket, helmet, long pants, boots, and gloves. Always pay attention to what is going on around you, don't assume anything.
I 100% agree with #4. I see so many MC riders actively ride like they're looking to be offended. You have to understand that not everyone is prepared to have an bike approaching them. My famous line, If you want to be 100% safe drive a Volvo. I feel like I was an HOF QB in a past life because I can see 3-5 seconds into the future when I ride. I know what other drivers are going to do before they do it. I see what's developing in front of me, speed, traffic, potential for sudden lane changes, I profile the type of driver based on the car, some real Jason Bourne shit. Unless it's a blatant turn out in front of you or a double yellow car pool lane chance (which I always prepare for when I see non-carpool traffic starting to slow) I just take it with a grain of salt or give them a head shake or a quick WTF hand shrug. Riding daily in Los Angeles is literally life and death. And as for bike on bike hate... I see that more online in comment sections than on the road. It's almost always respect. Harleys, sport bikes, Hondas, Hell's Angels, even LAPD and CHP always throwing down the wave. We're all in it together knowing what we're up against.
I have had my first motorcycle for a few weeks now and it even changed the way I drive my car now and lots of bikers appreciate the distance I follow them at and give me a head nod now 👍
i can definitely tell when a car driver "gets it" and when they're clueless (like the left lane losers who don't realize that the reason i want to pass them so badly is because it's dangerous for me to be in the buildup of cars forming behind them, not just that i like going vroom vroom).
One time there was a motorcycle rally in the town I was living in. The weather was getting bad, and so a bunch of Harley owners showed up with their bikes in the back of pickup trucks or on motorcycle trailers. Then a guy arrived on a Japanese bike after having ridden it a couple hundred miles in cold rainy weather. The Harley guys started hassling him for riding a Japanese bike. But they had not even unloaded their bikes.
Awesome video, Sean - it should be shown in safety courses. All common sense, but like the late John Prine said, it don't make much sense how common sense don't make no sense no more.
1984 Honda 700 Nighthawk S. ordered it, paid cash, watched its assembly at the dealership, loved it. owned and rode it until my first child was born. It really would do 130 with a downhill start and long enough run. a few months later between Caruthersville, Missouri and Dyersburg Tennessee a large motorhome pushed me off the interstate. angry at first i figured out that they didnt know i was there and i got over it.
Nothing grates me more than naff Rossi rep helmets, using the word "drive" not ride and criticizing fellow riders / potential customers. Im fighting the urge not to mention wheelies.
Agreed on the car hate thing , when you ride every day its just not worth the aggression it causes , even if drivers make a mistake , just avoid move on and forget about it and arrive at your destination relaxed and happy.
Hahah I love the way you explain this. I totally agree! Just try to avoid those annoying guys and ride with the guys that really love and enjoy riding and freedom
Hey Sean, I had not ridden except a few times a year at most for 36 years. I'm 57, have a TBI from Iraq and just kept looking at bikes all summer. And especially my friends Road King. Which he let me drive around a big parking lot. One cold and snowy day I walk into the local Harley dealer to look at a used Dyna. I had decided that I wanted to get back into it. Next thing I know I am on the phone to a friend of mine who is a motorcycle officer, asking him, "So I haven't ridden in many years, do you think I could handle an Ultra?" He tells me to sit on it and straighten the bars if I can do it and am comfortable with the weight do it. He says "If it doesn't feel right, you'll know it." So I went and bought that bike because it is what I always wanted and I knew that in a year I would be wanting to trade up. In the months where I was snowing, I used that time to buy gear, helmet, jackets, gloves, Took the MSF class, told classmates what I had bought, "You're nuts" was the common answer but I passed it. Took a 2-hour private lesson. My first 2 weeks were basically riding around this series of streets that are a big oval with streets that cross in the center. Lots of practice making left and right turns. I finally hit the streets and gradually got myself into more and more traffic. I just go out and ride around the city for a little while. I get waves from 95% of people that I meet, except for guys on scooters, but I wave at them. Love the videos.
I get mad when driver's get mad at me for riding more defensively than you would in a car. Almost got ran off the road the other day because I was waiting patiently in a situation I'd have normally gone if I were in my truck.

ARS rescue rooter guy started honking his horn and actually shot past me as I was turning. Came really close to hitting me.
Reving an enigne while standing at a traffic light is not necessary on new bikes. But if you drive an oldtimer with carburator, sometimes the idle goes to much down. Most people do reving so the engine won't die.

Awesome vid bro, althou a small observation: I'm not the right example, but regarding point 4 and the "blinker" it's totally understandable, although one observation, *first you signal your intention* and *THEN you look to the mirror to know if you're clear or not to proceed to the maneuver*. (At least here in Portugal, not sure about other countries), sorry for the bold, but I'm hoping it will catch everyones attention. But... if you're speeding you're asking for it!
Yep. It's middle-age, Sean, or the years of wisdom as the Old Testament writers viewed it. Us mature riders need to occasionally turn our garden hoses of wisdom on the youngsters, metaphorically speaking of course, so that they may enjoy life with the wife they love, all the days of their life that God has given them under the sun (Ecclesiastes 9:9).
6 things that annoy me about motorcycle RUclipsrs: 1. Clickbait titles 2. Repetitive content 3. Hyping up every bike you review 4. Missing your shifts 5. Not wearing gear 6. Always running out of gas
Yeah, what’s the deal with bikers who rev the engine? I’ve noticed they rev a few times immediately after starting the engine. They also do it every time they are stopped at an intersection. What do they think they are accomplishing?
What pisses me off is the guys that give the finger to the police and the ones that ride there dirt bikes and quadson the street with no respect for the law.
@@averyvantuyl2728 it's no problem lol. I came from the opposite world, been a street rider for a long time and the Hawk was kind of my cheap intro into dirt stuff. I think I have become an even better car driver since I got my bike . I'm more aware of everything now, more watchful of other drivers, period. Not that I wasn't before, but I've become ever more vigilant now.
I have the same pet hates, but am also guilty of most of them...although when I was learning I didn't stretch the swingarm of my 1979 DT 100....occasionally I still become overwhelmed with the joy of motorcycling and like to partake in some completely unnecessary revving...mostly around full moons 😬
Number 3 is one of my beefs too. I was a police officer for over 10 years and I've seen plenty of senseless injuries to both the rider and their girl friend who was on the back dressed like she was at the Beach. Wear Gear make your girl wear gear. If she doesn't have gear she don't ride is my rule. I have spare gear in my saddle bags.
😂 I had to search for it to see this. Yes stretched ninja 300 is a thing . Agree with everything lol. Hey if I’m riding it’s just my happy place I just ignore the stupid things best I can, and chug along to my beat.
I've always had cruiser bikes as my day-to-day bike. I've owned a sportbike but realized that I can accomplish "good enough" performance for the street if I just know my bike and ride it to the limit. By this I mean I occasionally like riding it "like a sport bike", not full-on Rossi doing 100+mph in city traffic; Quick and determined acceleration, proper body positioning(over the gas tank, spine straight, facing behind the curve, etc.) and proper steering techniques. Cruisers are still motorbikes and properly handled will smoke most cars and many bikes with inexperienced riders. Wouldn't go against a turbo busa though ;)
BEARDS SUCK !!!!!! Just kidding of course. It SUCKS being me though. I ride a ridiculous powerful Harley, almost 200 pound/feet of torque, yes really. Also ride a built GSX-R1100. Drag Race a PRO-E.T. Nitrous Suzuki. But if I could buy a NEW bike, it would be the TRIUMPH ROCKET 3, or the MOTO GUZZI BIG CRUISER. If someone else doesn't SUCK, and wants to buy me a bike because my bank account SUCKS, I'LL take a TRIUMPH SPEED TRIPLE or the biggest Ducati Monster. I won't buy the Indian, only because it SUCKS what Polaris did to VICTORY. The moral of the story is, I SUCK cause I don't fit into any 1 category. MAY GOD BLESS US ALL......... CAUSE WE ALL SUCK.
I thought i was the only one who hated how Polaris done the Victory line I loved how Victory motorcycles all had a custom look to them with minimal engineering in the engines with each engine only having 8 gaskets and the parts were interchangeable

@ffsgdfSgDsv iyknavDdvsa I crashed lane splitting. Car pulled out last min, no signal at all. Luckily I was going slightly over 20mph. Low speed high side cracked the back of my shoie. I walked away. I still lane split but constantly scoot over for guys pushing 50mph splitting.
I don't trust cars enough and wouldn't lane split even if it was legal in my state... how about bikers that tailgate but hate to be tailgated? How about loud pipes? The best is bikers who have loud pipes and wear ear plugs because even they don't like their noise?
Lane splitting / filtering is legal and encouraged in australia (with a maximum speed of 30kph) , its called filtering everywhere else in the world. I filter every day...
Full bagger Harley this morning exactly in that scenario, I was about to pull out, see him coming, realize he's coming super fast (~110 mph). I don't pull out. Up ahead there is construction on a bridge near where I live (it has lights on it to control traffic) - it is reduced to one lane. Light our way is red, he blows through, car coming the other way (that has the green) has to stop and pull over a bit. As Harley blows by, he gives them the finger.
Let's face it.... Harley is under built & over priced. Deep down inside die hard Harley people know this. Its ok! I'm about getting on two wheels with my fist in the wind. Giving the thumbs up to anyone else on two wheels weather its Harley or rice bike. It's not very nice of you Harley riders not giving a wave back. It's ok I forgive you.😊
Harley-Davidson owner and I wave to all, even scooters. They usually don’t wave back. I think they’re in shock. The other group that doesn’t tend to wave back are those micro helmet bad ass looking guys. I must scare them?
I ride a harley, own a cbr600 project bike, and wave to everyone if I'm not having to work the clutch. In town I'm bad about not waving just because I'm always covering the clutch or paying to much attention to the idiot drivers in my area.
Richard Davis yes I recognize that everyone can’t necessarily wave given traffic, working the clutch etc. Sometimes I’ll just nod my head in those situations. Ride safe.
Just discovered your video's and really enjoy what you're about. I'm saving up till spring 2020 for a used bike, with that said, now what I saw that annoyed (I'd rather say something much worse but we'll go with annoyed). My city as many cites now have a problem with what I call pirate riders usually in groups. Not registered, uninsured pirates without a license or proper equipment terrorizing city streets, sidewalks and intersections. Today I saw a mother and toddler without any protection, or license plate riding on the side walk at maybe 1:00 pm lunch time, so bad at many levels.
I'd add guys that ride without gear on to the list. Or squids you riders that ride in tank tops shorts and flip flops. Come on that does not look safe.
SPOT-ON about every aspect. I have those same beefs and annoyances. I see all these STUPID videos of guys flipping off someone that supposedly cut them off while they were doing double the speed limit. The rider is TOTALLY AT FAULT FOR ALL OF THOSE CLOSE CALLS but are just idiots and can't take blame for anything they have done. It's like they own the road... One thing they need to realize is that when they get in an accident they are going to be the looser and get hurt. At that point it really doesn't matter who's fault it was, they're still gonna be hurt so why risk it any more than they need to? I got your back on ALL those and thanks for having the guts to state them here. Thanks Man and keep 'em comin'.

My number one peeve, by far, is seeing a young child riding as passenger on a bike without a helmet. Adults have the right to make that stupid decision for themselves. I have a real problem, however, when you enforce that stupid decision on a child.
Although endlessly stupid, That cannot possibly be a common thing I have never seen or heard of anything like this ever!
@@RantDuJour When you live in the southwest where the riding season is 12 months, it is not as uncommon as it should be. A common refrain that I get from the rider involved is, "We're just goin' for a short spin close to home."

Im arthritic cruiser rider, I avoid peak traffic riding.
I have to admit, I did the revving thing when I first started too... aaannnd then I remember I wasn't 5 years old 😅
