BMW F750 GS - Mode & Suspension settings - Most GS owners don't know this...

  • The BMW F750 GS, but also the F850 GS and F1250 GS, although they have some additional settings. I recently discovered that a lot of fellow GS riders had a bit of a 'a-ha' moment when I mentioned it, which is why I think most owners may not know this... hence this very quick little video.
    Maybe you have a BMW F750GS or maybe you are wondering which motorbike to buy, or which motorbike is the best brand. Do you want on-road, off-road or a mix of the two? Well, I hope my regular input on my experience helps.
    In this video, basically it's the ability to 'further' adjust the suspension to your liking when in Rain, Road and Dynamic Mode. Not Enduro, as that is an 'all-inclusive' mode, for the 750. 850's and above have the additional 'Pro' settings for ABS options - I'm not getting into all that here.
    This is just a simple "did you know" type of video, so hopefully it is helpful to some... or "most' as I am claiming! Just a hunch... enjoy.

    I bought a 750 gs with all the bells and whistles last summer. When my dealer here in Norway showed me around the bike, he told me how to set the suspension to road and the throttle respons to dynamic for a comfortable and sporty ride. I use this all the time. One tip: check the suspension setting occasionally since it sometimes reverts to dynamic on its own.🙂

    • @MotoBrit
      @MotoBrit  2 года назад +1

      Awesome - So Norway clearly have the best sales reps then! My rep was a new guy... very keen but clearly only had knowledge from his recent sales induction, and wasn't a GS rider at all. When I bought mine in 2020 from the dealers, I ordered the 2021 even though the showroom didn't have one on display. I actually had to explain to the rep, all the new features coming on the 40 year anniversary edition. Since then, it's been trial and error with all the features.

  • @fentontaylor9021
    @fentontaylor9021 2 года назад +3

    Yes, I did know that. Learned it on my 1250 GS and use it all the time on my 750 GS. Suspension in Road and throttle in Dynamic. With the suspension in Road, it rides like a dream, very smooth, and with the comfortable seat, it really rides nice. When I ride mountain roads, I put the suspension in dynamic.

    I mainly ride in dynamic and rarely change to road mode. What I often use is the preload. When I ride with luggage of course but also to adjust the height when parking at uneven ground. If the lean angle is to small when put the bike on the side stand I change the preload to two up or luggage. And sometimes when riding with luggage the lean angle is to big when I get of the bike then I lower the bike. I think that’s can come in handy now and then.

    • @MotoBrit
      @MotoBrit  2 года назад +1

      Yep, I'm the same. Good point about using the preload button for the lean angle when parking. I actually wanted to mention that as I was talking in my video... basically saying to press and hold the same button when you stop if you're 2up with luggage, and hold it to lower the suspension to single rider so you both can get off easier... but I wanted to keep it quick. But yes, definitely a handy tip.

    Dynamic ESA changes the spring preload in when using the ride modes (right button) and when using the load adjustments (left button). Basically the spring tension is changed, which can be measured and the damping by changing the electronic valve system.

    • @MotoBrit
      @MotoBrit  5 месяцев назад

      Yes, more or less. It's no secret that BMW made the same bike for two different purposes, the 750 for on-road, and the 850 for off-road. Exact same engine, just some small mods with suspension and a few features. That's what happens when you let the marketing team walk through the factory!

  • @The72tilly
    @The72tilly Год назад +1

    I use it on my F 850gs Adventure Rallye. Selecting ride on the left hand side lowers the bike which makes it easier to lift off the side stand or move around while off the bike. You can then select the mode you want when moving again.

    • @MotoBrit
      @MotoBrit  Год назад

      +Al Tilly... Yep, and probably even more necessary to use on an 850GS, because of the higher ground clearance. I do the same on my 750GS, and at 5'9" the lower shock setting allows me to almost be flat footed on either side when at a stop. Luggage and passenger setting puts me on tip toes. So yes, a very handy feature. Thanks for the comment.

      Thanks, David - I really appreciate that. Yes, it's a GoPro, slotted into a GoPro 'media mod' then attached to a chin strap on my helmet... and the sound is simply a cheap lapel mic fixed to the inside of my helmet by my mouth - the mic itself has a fluffy ball on it to stop wind noise and the excess cable is tucked into my cheek pad. The reason its a cheap mic is so that I can talk/shout without any 'noise explosion' which I would get from a better mic with better sound sensitivity... but because the lapel mic is right on my lips, I just need the cheapest one for the best sound... go figure!! I have a hack for everything... damn, that would be a good channel if I had time! All the best.

    My brother and I, will get our GS 750 this summer we are waiting for the 2022 model to arrive at our dealership. How's the engine? Because they say is a China engine and not BMW built.

    • @MotoBrit
      @MotoBrit  2 года назад +1

      I don't actually know if the engine's are made in China or not. Maybe some parts are made there, or some sort of assembly possibly... I've never heard of that, but I will have a look online to see if that's true. It wouldn't bother me necessarily, China have a reputation for building shit, but that's usually when companies order parts and often choose 'good value' over 'good quality' - But China have the means to build good quality products just like anywhere, but often they're supply is demanded from developing countries... I know a bit about that stuff, and I actually speak Mandarin too, so maybe I'll do a review in Chinese one day to spook everyone!! Enjoy the bikes when they arrive... I imagine it will be an awesome summer!!!

      Shukran, Abdullah, I appreciate the comment. Although the 750GS is now promoted as the 'road' version of the GS range, since 2021, it still has great offroad capabilities. So if you're mainly doing long trips and just a bit of offroad, and 750 is enough for you (all 750's are actually 850's by the way... 853 to be exact) then go for the 750GS. Take a look at my 7,500km review video... that was posted after I made a long trip, so that might be helpful too. Good luck.

      Yes you're quite right, your honor. A worthy point. Terminology is important. I'm sure I've said worse... Oh I have, in the gear shift assist video, I keep calling the throttle the accelerator. Might as well own up to that one. All the best. 👍🏻

      I have the 850 with the Esa, I'm sure the front suspension is adjusted automatically in line with the rear, just under the top of the forks there's a cable to each fork tube, similar to that seen on top of ktm forklegs, I read it stops fork dive etc and squat on the rear, currently in the middle of a 2 up 800 mile trip and I'm quite impressed as is my mate who is pillion around 13 stone.

  • @keinname629
    @keinname629 Год назад +1

    Thx for the video. I can easily live without the electronic features on the bike. A throttle grip should always give you a true impression of your drive train. There is absolutely no need for any adjustments of the engine response as long as the motor is well crafted and in good shape. Adjusting suspension might be a good idea. But you always could do that depending on the road condition and load. Beforehand. Not during your ride.

    • @MotoBrit
      @MotoBrit  Год назад

      I agree, and understand your point. You've obviously been riding since you were young, like me, and know exactly how to manage the relationship between throttle and response in any given condition. Bikes like Harley's simply rely on the brand name to keep selling, but BMW has to compete with Triumph and Honda for continued market share... so it's more about that, than anything else in my opinion. I'm wondering when the automatic kickstand will be invented so that riders can get even more lazy and not have to put a foot down at traffic lights. You read it here first, it won't be long!! Thanks for your feedback, I like the opinions and engagement. Ride safe. 🤘🏻
