They're not simply "pop" but they are extremely commercial and not as alternative or indie or underground as you would think. The fact they get lumped in with Panic, FoB, and MCR is shocking to me.

Meet Sven: If anyone remembers the "Meet Glenn" video she did, I feel Glenn should have a brother who's smarter than him. Unironically his name is Sven. Anyways, Sven ends up gaslighting Glenn the whole video. The Glenn comes up out of nowhere like, "Dude, so not cool. I do too have a life. You need to chill out. See, I'm trying this new yoga class out and feelin' the zen. I'm on a new spiritual journey, brah."
Elmo v. Rocco: A Sesame Street case: Pretty much Elmo is fed up with Rocco after having to watch him for Zoe. He ends up hurling him at a car window. So Baby Bear, the bodyguard takes him to jail. A few days later, Elmo is issued a court case where he has to defend himself against Rocco. And don't ask me why, but Zoe puts Rocco in a bowtie so he could be all flashy. Elmo is dressed in an orange jumpsuit with added bling. Oscar the Grouch is the judge, and the Count is Elmo's defendant. Liv busts through the doors of the courtroom as another defendant for Elmo...just 'cause. And Elmo ends up winning the case because of Liv's Elmo videos. I feel that with enough precision, this sketch could actually work.

Not to jump to the defence of pretentious music connoisseurs, but I do wonder what it is that actually *does* give you a personality. People keep dismissing things left, right, and centre when it comes to "personality", to the point where there seems little left. What is this ever elusive Personality of Theseus?
Yeah I’ve been thinking about that. The things you like do shape your personality, and I think it’s fine for underground music to be very important to you and shape who you are, but you shouldn’t be annoying about it and put down people who dont like that kinda stuff
As someone who happens to like a lot of obscure music, we're not all like this. I never pretentiously lecture anyone about how the music I like is "better" than other people's. And I'm never surprised that people haven't heard of certain artists -- of course they haven't, they're obscure. It would be nonsense to assume otherwise. And we're not idiots who think 2 views is more successful than 200. We don't care how many views it has. We like it for what it is.
And I'm a little annoyed at the insinuation that liking obscure stuff is some kind of 'poser attention grab substituting for personality.' I just like what I like. The fact that it happens to be obscure is not my fault.
