Calling them sappers is very interesting. I really hope we get some POV Dustbringer in the near future.
Super powered combat engineers
Book seven or eight.
Radiants but make them Bridgeburners
Sappers were tunnelers in world war one
@@Lezzyboy87 (sorry I'm nerding out) the term "sapper" comes from the french "sappúre" in the Napoleonic army, they were bridge builders and blockade breachers. The nickname was adopted by modern day combat engineers. (Myself being one)
I strongly identified with the Dustbringers when all we knew was that they were unpopular and valued self mastery. I'm a big guy and I have a temper. I know that if I lose control, people can get hurt. I have had struggles with drug addiction and watched as the life I thought I would live slid into a pathetic slothful shadow of my potential. Now hearing them described as trying to understand the world around them so they can make things better effectively makes me feel even closer to this order. Thank you Brandon, I feel seen.
Have you read the Wheel of Time? Seems like you would identify with Perrin pretty well. Sorry to hear about your struggles, I hope things improve for you!
@@danielviera7572 I have, and you're right, Perrin was my favorite. Thank you, I appreciate your words.
You got this. We believe in you bro.
This is such a great insight into the dustbringers, especially with the limited views we've had of them so far.
Right!? They sound a lot more like scientists/engineers to me than I previously imagined honestly
This is honestly setting up a very good character arc for the few we know of
At first I wasn't sure how this concept of them seeking to understand the world and control themselves fit as all we really have is a conversation of one talking about how they aren't that interested in reestablishing the knights.
But with this context it makes so much sense why they would ally themselves with Taravangian. Of course the people who wanna take a moment to see how it all fits together would be interested in the diagram.
I thought they'd be mentally unstable (even more so than the usual radiant) assholes like the majority of the skybreakers. Taravangian's pet dustbringer certainly didn't give off any good vibes.
They remind me of white hat hackers. They know every weakness in your defenses, so you're lucky they only know so they can help you.
My favorite SaytheWords video so far! This take on Dustbringer philosophy reminds me a bit of what Juvens said in Joe Abercrombie's First Law:
"If a man seeks to change the world, he should first understand it. The smith must learn the ways of metals, the carpenter the ways of wood, or their work will be of but little worth. Base magic is wild and dangerous, for it comes from the Other Side, and to draw from the world below is fraught with peril. The Magus tempers magic with knowledge, and thus produces High Art, but like the smith or the carpenter, he should only seek to change that which he understands. With each thing he learns, his power is increased. So must the Magus strive to learn all, to understand the world entire. The tree is only as strong as its root, and knowledge is the root of power."
Too bad no one told this law to the Lord Ruler >.>
Dan is KILLING it with the writing on these! Can’t wait to hear more about his cosmere book after these little snippets of him writing in world!
Finally! I'm so excited to have more info about Dustbringers
Hell yeah, I may not be a dustbringer but they are my favorite order.
When I took the "What order would you belong to?" quiz, I came up with Dustbringer. I didn't have a clear idea of what that meant, but hearing this it totally fits me.
Me too!
total side note:
Belgarath is a fantastic character :) Silk is my favorite tho
Dustbringer was the order I fit into the least when I took the test yet this fits me so well.
Wow. These are great oaths.
With the limited exposure to Duskbringers in the text, I had a low opinion of their order from a couple of examples. That shows how easily unfair biases can form.
I am 6th of the duskbringer
@@pyrometheus4277 Nice.
I absolutely love the idea/concept of the dustbringers. I'm so hoping to see more of them in future stormlight books!!
I'm really glad that it states their preference for the term "Releasers". Next time I re-read, I'll try to keep an eye out for any Dustbringers we might have slept on! Lol
That's a fascinating, and potentially terrifying outlook, particularly if concept of "responsibility" gets twisted around.
Self-mastery sounds phenomenal. Reminds of my boyfriend, though he tested Elsecaller.
This is one of the most beautiful things you've ever written. Well done.
Surprise, Brandon didn’t write it 🎉
@@neveyoo6533 Fair play to whoever did.

Dan welse, actually...@@NobbsAndVagene
I am so hyped to learn the Ideals of the Dustbringers!
Kate Reading is a gift.
Fantastic view of my fellow Dustbringers. Well said.
I know actually have respect for the Dustbringers now, good job!!
I love this so much. I keep getting a tie between Stonewards and Dustbringers on the Radiant Quiz but with little info for both I haven’t been sure which would feel more right
I'm so excited for this book! It looks stunning
Wow, I hadn't realised how interesting the Dustbringers actually are! Hopefully we get a POV of one of them soon!
Yumi would be a great dustbringer
I love this style of writing (good job, Dan!), the whole idea of this video series and especially the art!
I’d love for them to bundle this into a little book. Ebook at least!
These are so good!! I sure hope her complete journals on the Radiants will be released soon.
I'd pay a decent chunk of cash to get a physical copy of that Radiant Orders book
I would not be surprised if you can later this year. My guess is that these excerpts are all from one of the SA RPG books that are coming out.
It's like a cult without the sense of humour...
@@NobbsAndVagenewhat?
Can't wait for the willshaper video
I love Kate Readings voice❤❤❤❤
I will seek self mastery
"targeted emotional destruction"
Leading to severe Emotional Damage.
I’m curious what Spren will be used for the Bondsmith page since the Stormfather is basically a head, the Nightwatcher is a creepy woman and the Sibling is the entire tower of Urithiru.
Will it be one or a combination of all three?
That are all called godspren
@@devinplauche475 but they’re unique Spren and not just a general category like the others are. The others at least are generic versions of the Sprens.
I thought the Nightwatcher wasn’t humanoid. Some kind of beast-shaped thing. The woman was Cultivation, handling the special cases the spren couldn’t.
@@IslandUsurper Nightwatcher is described as looking like a mist with arms and a feminine face, so she could be humanoid, just shrouded in mist or a mist with a face and limbs. In the Dalinar flashback I believe she’s described in a way it could be interpreted either way before Cultivation shows up
Yay more info on my Order :D confirms even more that I am in in the right order
My favourite Radiant Order ❤
Reminds me of the Bene Gesserit. Perfect knowledge of psychology means you can manipulate others as you wish - thats the Voice.
Ender Wiggin: Dustbringer. Well, it sounds that way to me.
I really want this character to appear in one of the future stormlight books. And I'd want even more to learn if she'll become radiant herself! Imagine the conclusion to this series and her introducing us to her spren
From these descriptions you can draw some parallels between Dustbringers, and the philosophical stoics. Self control, self examination, analytical questions. It's not a perfect overlap, but some similarities for sure, wonder if that's by coincidence or design.
that art is incredible
Dustbringers are amazing, I wonder who in the main roaster of characters will join this order, and which book will be focused on them.
Given the Flashback people known for the second half, the only likely person is Ash. Which I think it the 8th book.
It'll be Taln.
All Ten stood near Dalinar when Honor's Perpendicularity was first opened at The Battle of Thaylen Field. Dalinar even noted that they should have been there, cause it felt right. They were:
Kaladin of the Windrunners
Shallan of the Lightweavers
Dalinar of the Bondsmiths
Venli of the Willshapers
Szeth of the Skybreakers
Renarin of the Truthwatchers
Jasnah of the Elsecallers
Lift of the Edgedancers
Taln of the Stonewards
and that leaves the representative of the Dustbringers... Shalash, Herald of the Lightweavers
@@CHUCKLZLORDi think you meant dustbringer there are the end, but thats actually some great insight!!
@@TheSkyz74 No he is correct. Ash will join the Dustbringers even though she is/was the Herald of the Lightweavers.
Most likely, Ash becomes a Dustbringer. Next most likely is that Taln becomes a Dustbringer and Ash becomes a Stoneward.
Anything beyond that requires Renarin, Lift, or Jasnah to change order, which is unlikely. Or, equally unlikely, an order is unrepresented.
The order Brandon had the hardest time creating and one of the least common results in the quiz on the website. Love learning about these obscure guys. They're mentioned in RoT, wonder what they end up doing
how do you find out about the common results?
RoT? I don't recognize that one. Which book are you referring to?
I got Dustbringers in my quiz, wanted to be an Edgedancer. But this is so me
Hmmm…are these radiant pages going to be in a stretch goal book 🤔
Palaha-chan, my favourite anime protagonist
if for whatever reason the Rosharan months need a representation, we know haw Palahachan will look like :D
This explains why they were drawn to the Diagram
It’s David Goggins of Knights Radiant
Who wrote the music for this? I don’t see them in the acknowledgments in the description
I am a dustbringer for sure
I would 100% be a Dustbringer!
These are so cool! Will we get to Stonewards soon?
Looks like there going in order, a stonewards are 9th. So 6 more weeks is my guess.
Uhoh, the past tense in that "I will seek self-mastery" section seems ominous. What are their oaths themed toward now, if not responsibility? What changed their oaths?
I really feel like I could identify with the dustbringers, though it's a bit hard to feel sure since we know basically nothing about them. :/
i do hope we get more about the rest of the orders in the second series especially dustbringers since they are my favourite and the ones i identify with
Considering how sappers are in Malazan book of the fallen, I’m guessing it’s no surprise they are this way in this series. 😂😂😂
Does this sound weird to anyone else at normal speed as opposed to 1.3 or 1.4x?
what book has the actual page shown at @2:27 ? is it new only for these videos, or is this information elsewhere? I thought maybe from ROW, but that is only info about the order spren, not the orders themselves.
So now we know Dale Gribble can also speak the oaths
Kate Redding!
I wish I knew how much the order you belonged to is the way you currently are or the way you want to be? Can someone be a dustbringer that doesnt have much self mastery but finds self mastery on their journey? Or is it someone with self mastery already?
"I WILL seek self mastery" seems pretty clear to me. Its something you never stop seeking even if you have some of it already.
I think Venli shows us that one must have the potential to embody the order's ideals, not that they already have to uphold the ideals. The desire to start on the path of self mastery may attract a dustbringer spren.
The order you belong to is the journey you are on! Not the destination you've reached.
Thank you!
This kind of iron grip emotional self-control is pretty much word for word how one of my friends describes her daily struggle. Eerie
Can't wait for Truthwatchers.
Oh man. I am an Edgedancer, but this video makes me think I might fit well in the Dustbringers, too...
What did they call themselves again? The releasers? Pretty neat order.
Shoot this one is actually me.
I have huge hunch, they may play big part on stormlight archive arc 2
This is totally Shallon Devar!
Stoics in Roshar
Best fantasy author today.
Dan Wells?
Joe Abercrombie?
Literally me.
Adoooonalsium
Jordan Peterson’s order of knights confirmed. Jordan Peterson belongs on Roshar because of the lobsters. The second ideal: “I will clean my room.” 😂😂😂
Joking about JBP aside, based on her description of their abilities, a Dustbringer would make an AMAZING villain, especially a mafia mob boss style who protects his own and absolutely destroys his enemies.
I wonder who Senne is.. Is she from the Breath place mayhaps? (Do we know her? Or did I forget.. Or is she completely new..)
Yeah, I’ve consistently thought that I’m an Elsecaller or a Lightweaver… but man does this make me think I might be a Dustbringers.
I‘ve been on the truthwatcher or lightweaver train, but I feel the same. Maybe it’s the fact that the progression of lightweavers is kinda similar to that of dustbringers? Telling and accepting deep truths about oneself does mesh very well eith seeking self mastery imo.
Pumped.
So I'm the only one feeling that the dustbringers have the same protection feel from the windrunners but with a completely different approach? Like a contra position to the windrunners
Chills
Is it just me or does this sound way to similar of a definition to shard bearers in the way of kings? As well as burning eyes??
I Will Seek Self-Mastery
I wonder if we can have someone who has multiple spren
Why show Shallan in the Dustbringers video? is that hinting at something?
The qualities of Shallan also align quite well. And she has been known to manipulate the emotions of those around her. And we know it is possible via WoB that it is possible to bond more than one spren.
Not really, these videos are really just meant to build interest in the leather-bound Words of Radiant release.
It's likely that Shallon becomes Hoid's new apprentice as a world singer, taking a different name to not be so easily distinguish her to the Ghostbloods!
While it did pique my interest quite a bit, I hope it's the same case as using the Shallan and Jasnah illust for the Skybreaker video aka the visual is unrelated to the audio
It kind of sounds like Shallan’s writing
I WANNA BE A DUSTBRINGER!!!
What's the music????👀
Dustbringers are Theorycrafters
So I'm new to the Cosmereverse and everything, is this a new series or is this a continuation of another series?
It’s a continuation but there’s been only two before this one
These take place in the same world as the Stormlight Archive series. But these RUclips videos are written by Dan Wells. So if they end up being in a book I think it will be in one of the books he ends up writing for the Cosmere
You should consider this part of the Ars Arcanum of the Stormlight Archive, although this is technically promoting the leatherbound edition of the second book in the series.
P. S. The Cosmere is the canonical name of its multiverse, so Cosmereverse is redundant. 😊
Dan Wells (VP of Narrative) is writing in-world historical commentaries on each of the orders of knights in the book series "The Stormlight Archive". Words of Radiance is book 2, regular editions of up to book 4 are out so far. This is extra content for that series. People are excited because only a few of the orders have been described in the series so far.
The discripton of the ideology and interests of dustbringers is so similar to myself that it’s actually kinda creepy.
I can see why the spren refuse to associate with humans as they felt they could no longer keep things in check? Maybe also because the main form of engineering has been focused around fabrials and using spren
.... was Shallan a dustbringer as a child?
Absolutely tragic that we have to wait five more weeks for Willshapers...
Adolin's a duskbringer mayhaps
Rusts, I wanna be a Dustbringer now 😂
You'll first need a lot of connection to Roshar, Scadrian ;)
Ah...so they're QA
genial
Why is the art piece Shallan? :O
Will Adolin end up a Duskbringer?
I will seek justice.
Wait... so is this going to be on Kickstarter or BackerKit?
Straight to BackerKit, as they have a good idea of the numbers they'll need already. No need for the Kickstarter overhead.
"The Dustbringers...[are]...incredible...The Dustbringers are...impenetrable...and...better."
"The Dustbringers are the [best]."
hey, you heard them, looks like the Dustbringers are the best
as if that weren't obvious to begin with
Can dustbringers combat emotional alomancy?
As a person who has only bought the uk edition paperbacks I think I'm getting way too much entertaining content for the money I've spent on the series. #Dec2024
Interesting
👀
Wait did they just say… emotional destruction? So Dustbringers might be able to use their powers on a mental or spiritual level?! Dang, that’s interesting
Is this Jasnah’s or Navani’s voice?
Senne Khald, apprentice Worldsinger, is the character composing the entries; Kate Reading is the narrator. : )
Huh...I just realized, I'm a dustbringer.
guys I'm confused, is it a new series?
