When I lived in Colorado, the heat tape was worth it’s weight in gold! I wouldn’t recommend trying to live without it.

I always imagine that after these projects are done, how much fun it must be for the new owner to look back at these videos and see the progress of their new home! I’m sure they appreciate your quality work!

Valerie, the most interesting instance of how these videos and photos can impact a buyer is when one of them took the photos to their insurance company. The insurance company couldn't believe that an old mobile home could be worth so much, until they saw the photos. 🙂

It feels good that I seem to have installed my heat tape properly in my NC home. It's probably kicked on two or three times in the last year. The pipes froze once and I went into battle mode. I'm looking forward to the rim joist repair.

Indistinct Chatter, there is a good feeling of accomplishment when you do something yourself and it turns out well. Kudos to you for 'Doing It Yourself'. 🙂👍

Those water tank pans can save you thousands in repairs, unfortunately every time i see them used, the water tanks pressure relief valve runs straight into the pan so the bottom of the tank sits in 1/2" of water.

Is there any reason besides clearance to not change every gate valve to a ball valve?

Hi Jason. I don't use gate valves for anything anymore. I have gone fully with ball valves.

I need to replace heat tape in a mobile home ASAP. I don't trust the old one. And the main line is leaking a little. The main valve needs to be replaced and moved into the home. The worst part is it's an old artisian well. No idea how to shut that off. The pump is in the bathroom.

Snowy Bear, I would need more information in order to help you. I am not understanding how your setup is.

The pain for the hot water tank does it come in multiple colors? Because in one of your previous renovations you had a hot water pan and it was white. How much does the pan cost and were can it be purchased? will the rats chew on all that insulation? The easyheat tape, how did you learn about that tape? will you be using used wood renovate the rotten wood that you showed us seeing how wood is so expensive?

Seasons and lessons in life, the pans come in metal or plastic. The "white" one you saw was made out of aluminum. The one in this video is plastic. You can use either under an electric tank but under a gas tank it must be metal. These pan are less than $20 and can be found at most building centers (Home Depot, Rona, Lowes, etc.)
When that little chaseway for the water main gets finished later on in the project there will be some steel wool stuffed in with the insulation. Rats won't chew through that.
I learned about the EasyHeat brand heat tape by Googling. 🙂
Yes, I will be using wood to make those repairs. The price of lumber has dropped significantly. It has dropped so much the newsies are saying it has collapsed.
      Great questions! 🙂
