    Your probably not seeing this but if you get more ducks, put water about three inches tall and there feet will lift off three ground and they kind of float a little so as long as your around them they'll be fine or if you have a puddle somewhere in your yard or something then you can put them in that's to get them used to ponds or lakes and after clean them off with clean water and it can be cold as long as they are not in there for that long

    • @Creativehomemaking
      @Creativehomemaking  8 лет назад +13

      +bedoor daily I think it may depend on what kind of ducks you get. We have had two sets of runner ducks that we raised from babies, and none of them have ever tried to bite us. We have only seen an adult male duck peck at baby ducks so you do have to watch out for that. It is hot here in the summer, and cold in the winter, and the ducks have been fine during all seasons as long as you make sure they have food and water. We put a heater in their little wading pool in the winter time.

      +Creative Homemaking, LLC The water bowls should always be raised high enough so that they do not step in or even poop in it. This is to prevent contamination and sickness. Gradually raise the bowl level as they grow to just the point where they can only stick their heads in to drink.

    Guys do NOT feed them chick food. Just feed them ducks starter food and then move on to duck food because if you feed them chicks food they will have a high chance of getting angel wing and if you don't know what that is you can go look it up

    • @lifewithpets3291
      @lifewithpets3291 8 лет назад +4

      Honestly, there is one brand that makes just duck food, it is really hard to find and purchase so that's why people feed them chick food. You're supposed to add minerals/vitamins to the chick food to change it into a duck food that helps them grow and helps there bones become strong.

    • @angelcruz4654

    you aren’t supposed to put them in water so young, or they can die, when they are born, they’re moms give them already the waterproof oil on their feathers, but since they were ent raised with a mom they gotta do it themselves, after a month or so, usually 4 weeks then

      It totally depends on your dog. If you already have the ducks when you get a puppy and train the puppy to leave them alone they will probably be fine. We have a black lab though and she is trained to hunt birds so it's a bit harder with her. She knows she's in big trouble if she messes with our chickens and ducks. She's fine if we are with her but I would never leave her alone with them.

    how do tell the difference between males and females? I've raised chickens and was wondering if you can put them together? and if there's a name for female ducklings. :)

    • @miaraavalin4795
      @miaraavalin4795 7 лет назад +1

      Two Point Rider in adults you can tell by the drake feather or weather it quacks or is a little horse. (Only female ducks quack properly).
      Young ones early on you can sex by actually (gently) trying to pop the willy out. I don't recommend doing that yourself unsupervised if you haven't done it before.
      In some species there are colour differences in others not.

    • @Creativehomemaking
      @Creativehomemaking  6 лет назад +1

      Our female ducks quack very loudly. The males sound totally different and are fairly quiet. They do not make that quacking noise. The males are also noticeably larger than the females. I agree with the commenter above you can sex them when they are young but I'm not very good at it. Yes you can raise chickens and ducks together. We have about 30 chickens and about 8 ducks and they hang out together all day. At night they sleep in separate pens, but they could sleep in the same space. They don't really bother with each other at all. The only problem we have had is having too many male ducks at one time. They will beat up on each other like roosters do.

      Just until they are a few weeks old like she said they MUST be supervised and don't put a lot of water in or they will drown and if you see a ducklings head go underwater or you see a struggle please take the duckling out of the water and check its okay then maybe drain the water and plop it back in for a little swim or hold the duckling in your hand so it can't drown but do give it independence :)

    i need help, i found a duckling and it was pretty bad in weather. and i waited an hour for the mom but she never did show, so i took him home. he is a wild duck, he is constanly trying to jump out of his box. and when i get near he trys to peck me. is there a way where he can trust me or stop him from jumping or to no bite me. basicly tame it? its still very young.
    PLEASE SOMEONE RESPOND.

    • @forfor5169
      @forfor5169 8 лет назад +3

      I'm not sure if this is too late, but if you want to tame any wild animal, which is very difficult if the animal is older, then all you need is patience. You need to give the duck a reason to trust you. Sit in a pen with the duck, giving it lots of space, and allow it to become adjusted to you. Let it come up to you, not the other way around. Once it begins to get used to you, which will take a long time, then you can maybe reach out your hand and hold it open with food in it. Let the duckling take food from your hand. Do not make any sudden movements or all of the trust you had will be lost. Let me also remind you that this won't take just one hour in a pen or room with the duck. This can take several times of just sitting in a room or pen with the duck. Providing the food is an incentive for the duck to approach you. Always make sure that the duck has proper heating and food and a water supply, and please contact any wildlife rescue if the duckling begins to start looking sick(nautilus, listless, not responding to hand movements), as this can be life threatening for the duckling. Otherwise, goodluck!

    I live in california so in the winter its not freezing or cold or it doesn't snow, I am ten and I love ducks, I spend most of my time inside on the computer, simply because I have nothing entertaining to do. If I got ducks, I would basically spend all day outside, should I get adult ducks or get baby ducks? Please answer (I also have a lot of room in my backyard, but I also have a dog.

      another thing with ducks if they're alot like chickens so, put some research into chicken coops and predators that might go after them. ;)

    Hey! I’m thinking of getting 2 baby ducks! What do you think Would be the quietest more bondable, friendly pet duck to have? I definetly don’t plan on breeding them. Also what kind of food do u think is best for them?

    • @vvvvv8170
      @vvvvv8170 6 лет назад

      Shelbie V I'm sure any duck breed can be very kind, just handle them a lot when they're little. The more you handle them the friendlier but don't stress them out. And the type of food you get depends on the breed, so just google it :)

    • @Creativehomemaking
      @Creativehomemaking  6 лет назад

      Any non-medicated chick food is fine to feed them. I don't know if any breed of duck is friendly than another. We have Indian Runner Ducks and Rouen Ducks. I wouldn't say any of them are particularly friendly (they don't follow us around or anything), but if you hold them a lot when they are little they won't be as skittish when they grow up.

      We did not hatch these eggs, we bought the ducklings at a local farm store. We've had pretty good luck hatching duck eggs though. They seem to have a better hatch rate than the chickens we've hatched.

    Might want to mention that they don't actually eat the chick food as chickens. You can not give ducks medicated chick feed. It has to be unmedicated.

      +Hannes Pita Josefsson I would get at least two or three. I don't think they would like to be alone, they are very social. They do get along with chickens, though, if you raise them together.

      I've always raised chickens do this may not apply to ducks, but when they reach "adolescence" they lose their downy feathers to make room for their regular ones. That could be it but I've been wrong before.

      @Creativehomemaking  6 лет назад

      Ducks in general don't need warm conditions after they are grown up. Baby ducks do need to be kept warm. We have never had any of our ducks try to bite us, although some adult males will chase you if they are very aggressive. We have only had one duck that did that.
