  • Griffin calls it a “Robo Camera.” It’s the Feelworld NDI20X, and it’s $6,244 cheaper than the pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera used at his former job (Panasonic AW-UE100). Nick helps Griffin set up his network to remote control this 1080p camera over ethernet, using NDI Tools software.

    Nick shows off his new office, featuring an Elgato Key Light and Elgato Master Mount S (desk-mounted arm). Griffin is now recording with a Shure SM7B microphone plus Cloudlifter CL-1, he purchased used on eBay.

    We use a ton of those Panasonic PTZ cameras, tricked out with all the options. Main reason is so you can have one operator running 2 or 3 of those from the control room. They stay nice and cozy while the director and mixer slum it with the talent. Works great in our big spaces and event venues.

      Also, I didn't fully appreciate the more expensive Panasonic PTZ cameras are 4K, whereas this Feelworld is 1080 (not that my previous employer was using that resolution for streaming).

    21:28 - a little caution here. The SM7B is a dynamic mic, which means it alone does *not* need phantom power. But the *Cloudlifter (IIRC) will use phantom power* to boost the signal of the SM7B which is a quiet mic.

      As far as I understand, giving a dynamic mic 48V of phantom power won't necessarily damage it in the short turn, but it's not the way the mic is designed to work.

      Ah, that's good clarity. Thank you, it's the Cloudlifter that's using the phantom power-that makes much more sense.

    If you factor in the costs of staff, skill sets and the like when using a non NDI PTZ camera - the $100-$7300 cost is well worth it. Way less then paying for multiple camera operators.

    Excited to see the new office! I didn't know this came out a month ago, I missed it! As for PTZ cameras, they take jobs away from videographers and camera ops. Its the truth, as I have never had another person to control those while I direct, never. Its kinda sad. I think nick could benefit from some out of focus lights, and maybe turning that TV onto something in the background.

    Nick, your new office is very elegant. Good job. I would suggest you diffuse your key light as the highlight portion of your face is a little hot..maybe a little frosted shower curtain or something like that a few feet away from the light. For the background I would like to see a very broad lamp on the floor in front of the couch pointing up on the wall so the bottom of the wall is a little brighter and darkening up as it gets higher up on the wall. The tv would be nice with an image so it looks like an abstract painting.

      @@ampsonic ... Touche good sir :D. But it does genuinely look very nice! if anything maybe the blue in the BG be a little dark/saturate, comes off more greyish to me but that could just be me lol, also maybe a hair over exposed and/or needs a little contrast in color correction (but thatd be for Griffin if he even does lololol) either way some richer contrast is my thought. But otherwise, nice shot!

    What software do you use to do the video call? Zoom?

    • @GriffinHammond
      @GriffinHammond  Год назад +1

      We usually don't even share video during recording, and just use FaceTime audio for the call. This time, because of some technical quirks of trying to share specific video and specific audio sources with Nick, we used Zoom for the first half of the episode, and then used FaceTime video.
