"Why do we do camouflage? Idk, maybe you're hunting for bigfoot, maybe you're a photographer... maybe you're trespassing." 😆 Yes, Dave, those are exactly our intentions as bushcrafters. Good video, buddy. Loved it.
I've seen that on numerous vests that was lined with a waterproof style lining but this is the first time I've ever seen a cotton jacket with an absorbent cloth game pocket. I'm surprised it doesn't have a water resistant liner.
I heard this before. And I own a jacket myself that has a rabbit pocket. But honestly - don't dead animals bleed and or poop in that pocket? Why would you spoil your gear this way?
For many years I have gone hunting deer or elk without hunter orange. Camo was my choice. I found it desirable to be invisible to my fellow man, as well as the critters I sought. Unless I hunt with my grandchildren. We then become neon signs. I won't risk their lives as I might my own. Thanks, Dave, for your insights into this topic.
Good points Steve. Sometimes its the humans you either want to hide from or you want to make sure they can see you. Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
Much of what gives people away is noise keeping silent seems a real chore for most humans. As a former soldier who trained in camouflage a lotos it is based upon certain criteria. Shape, shadow, colour, texture, contrast, distance, tones. A sniper or member of a team aiming to remain undetected in enemy territory who remove as much chance as possible of being seen by blending in a keeping silent. You may wish to gain intelligence and leave unobserved from a strategic point and get back without detection - keep noise and unnecessary movement to a minimum. Afterwards you can buzz on being so close to the enemy patrol you could have cut their laces or throat without detection or noise. Stay safe Dave. Another great video
Great Video, The item around your neck is a ear warmer I also so make a Gilly Panel out of fish net and strips of old Camo pants. I drape them around my Deer blinds. It works real well with the use of natural material stuck into the fish net holes. Have Fun in the woods.
Great video! I might have commented this on the camo panel video, but Mossy Oak(and some others by now) make a 4' x 12' camo panel for covering blinds. It's very light and sturdy. I've used one for years for stealth camping in the winter and haven't been caught yet. They make several types of camo for whatever season you need. They run about $25 but for people who aren't as savvy with a sewing machine, they'll work great.
Good morning, Dave. I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. My favorite camo is a Real Tree leaf design (and similar). It blends well with the leaf litter floor and also granite boulders or ledge that we have in many places in NH. But mostly I I just like the looks of it.
Fun video. I love camo. I think hiding your "shape" is important too. No straight lines or sharp edges. Those "fluffy" fabrics that have things attached and used for hunting etc are probably the best. Dont know what the official name is.but my son said its called ghillie suits
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. Yes, hiding shape is half the game! Those are ghille suits. They work great but snag on everything in the forest. Lol. Thanks for watching Jill
The natural cover greatly added to all of the camo types. Where cover was sparse it was much easier to see you. Also shadows seemed to help over direct sunlight. And I think that the item that your sister gave you is a headband meant to cover your forehead and ears. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen skiers wearing them on TV etc.
Great video Dave, I love me some camouflage. A Marine buddy of mine told me to break-up the head & shoulder shape. So I took a boonie hat and a piece of netting from the craft store, tied some jute/twine in various earthy colors and made like a ghillie head piece. We used to test it out on each other to see if we could be detected. We also made full size ghillie outfits. It takes alot of time and is hot in the summer, but it was the most effective camouflage. To your point about wearing two different patterns, my best outfit (for the desert) was wearing coyote brown pants and multi-cam top with my ghillie-boonie hat. It was very effective to mimic the desert (brown) ground and the greenish shrubbery. Most of this was developed as my Marine buddy and his son would play airsoft with my son & I many years ago.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. Breaking up that human outline is definitely a big part of it. Sometimes I think homemade camo can be more effective than store bought stuff. Air softers definitely know a lot about camo. Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching
Dave I must say I really enjoyed this video. I was thinking reversible jackets or an added liner. That would be a lot of work. However, when it comes to the panels it would be very easy to add a different pattern to the back side or some netting. This could add more options. Even inside the hats you could add a thin layer that rolls up on the back of the hat or lays inside the hat. So many ways to multiply the camouflage to the camo. Peace and Freedom 🇺🇲
Thanks, Im glad you liked it. Remember my survival jacket where the lining was a giant pocket? I figured these camo panels could be the liner for that jacket! I like all your ideas. Thanks for watching Bailey
@@Reallybigmonkey1 I do remember the one with the liner. If you make the bag for the panel a bit wider the liner will be a little wider but thinner but, you could stuff the bag and have a nice cushion to sit on.
Excellent and thought provoking video ! I've seen camo patterns glow brightly like blue jeans sometimes do from being washed in regular detergent . Washing with sport wash and spraying with U V shield will eliminate it . Many types of game like migratory birds especially ducks and turkeys can see color very well , especially if it's florescent ! Looking for unnatural outlines will help reveal people who are camouflaged . Natural foliage seems to be the most effective way to counter that when used in combination with camouflaged clothing ..at least to me , although it can increase noise . Appreciate the effort you put in your videos ! You have been a favorite of mine since I saw the first one long ago !
Thanks Mike, Im glad you liked it. Those are some good points you brought up. I have never heard of sport wash so Ill have to look that one up! Thanks for watching Brother
Some really great camo patterns and some great ideas for other items to use as camo cover! The only other thing I would add is when hiding as you were (I know you were just doing it for examples) is to use the environment like trees, shrubs, etc and blend in with that or make your body shape a little distorted to break up what your body shape actually is so as not to be obvious that you are sitting there or stooping! Great video again! I enjoy your humor and your matter of fact ness! Thank you!
Thanks Randall, I'm glad you liked it. You are correct. Blended in by shape shadows and structure is half the point in camo. Sometimes it's good to test camo out in the open to see how effective it is on it's own. Thanks for watching brother
This is a great demonstration of the various patterns of camo and methods of how to use them . Also a great demonstration of different articles of camo gear. Many possibilities of use of our choosing. One of the best presentations I've ever enjoyed. Many thanks.
Thanks Dave! Those are some effective camo setups. And I agree with you - sometimes camo it's just fun and cool looking. Hope you can catch some snow if its dropping below freezing in GA.

Dave. Great video and very informative. At 32:58 I believe that item is an ear warmer. It wraps around your head covering your ears. Keep up the great work. Love the videos.
I agree @ 23:16 this is a very effective camo combination. The poncho/netting at 25:59 isn't bad either! All in all, the lineup of poncho setups was very effective. Tulle is pronounced, tool, believe it or not... Isn't that cool, Tulle is another fabric tool for you to use, lol. The next thing you might want to check would be which fabrics are florescent under UV or IR light, if you truly want to be stealthy. Some dark colors can read surprisingly light under these two light sources, and they will stick out after dark. I really loved this video. Eyes open, no fear, and be safe out there.
Good points Lainey! Lol, Tulle is a tool. Ive noticed on Ghost Adventures they wear black but once the night filming starts they all stand out like bright white. Its amazing how that works. Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching

Great video Dave really like that last idea of the panels I like to travel lite when coyote calling and that would fit the bill perfectly catch you on the next one.
Hi my friend, loved this video, you brought up a lot of very good points ‼️ Also using a poncho to break up your outline was another great point 👍🏻 Another thing you can do is by using a camo sheet or netting cut some slits in it so you can put natural foliage in it . Very interesting and informative ‼️Great job 👍🏻 Loved seeing all the outfits 💯 Thanks for sharing, take care and stay strong Brother 👍🏻🇺🇸
Hello and Im glad you liked it. Your idea of putting slits in a sheet gave me another idea. Sew little paracord loops all over it to add and hold twigs and branches! The slits will eventually rip but loops will last. Thanks for watching
@@Reallybigmonkey1 Hi Dave, if you use a nylon green fishnet to attach to the corners of the sheet or camo net you can attach natural foliage easier my friend 👍🏻 Take care and stay strong ‼️🇺🇸
It's all helps to a degree. Some more so than others. What really impressed me was how much motion effects visibility. Very important to remain still. And it seems very difficult to come up with pattern that works with completely unobstructed view but the better ones became effective even with light cover.
At least once a year I have to give you a shout out from the first video I watched which was about the utility of a steel bowl as part of camp cooking and sort of just a good piece of kit. Glad to see you as friendly and lighthearted as ever and still making videos. Happy Holidays and keep having fun in the woods!
I Love me some camo You did a great job exploring the ways of camouflage use It has made me do some thinking on some different ways to use my gear in a less visual way Thank you for sharing 👍🏽👍🏽
Sniper veil is the only one we use for that purpose. It lets wind passes trough it and you can let it around your neck when it's cold. It doesn't slip as other materials do, so you can easily set it on any backpack. Just offer your back to the viewer et voilà.
Belated Happy Thanksgiving to you and Nick. I thought this was a very realistic and practical demonstration. There were several combinations that made you disappear. Another thought-provoking video that was fun and educational. Thanks again for the quality content, David. All the best from Ohio.
Thanks Jerome! We had a good Thanksgiving and I hope yours was happy too. I actually had several more types of camo I didnt even bring! Take care and thanks for watching.
Excellent video Dave. You sure put a great deal of effort into making this. The main thing I learned from your video is the importance of selecting the correct camo for the area you are in. If you don't, you'll stand out like a sore thumb. Many of the camos I felt just didn't break up your body shape enough but I certainly agree with you about the Mossy Oak at 23:09. That really blended well with your environment. The bug net, the poncho liner and the sheet weren't too bad either. It just really depended on what was in your immediate proximity and how you were standing.
Thanks, Im glad you liked it. Very well said. There is really no "do it all camo" due to the need for greens, brown, tans or any other prevalent colors and shapes. Thanks for watching
This is the most in depth video I’ve ever seen on different camo patterns and innovations. A mostly brownish mix of different shades works good here in West Virginia for this time of year. Come turkey season in the spring the the light and dark patterns of green is what hunters will go to. Mossy Oak green pattern is common. The woodland camo is also very popular. I really like the Vietnam era tiger strips. I’m a big fan of using the shamaugh or sniper veil with a neck gaitor and a wide brim bush hat. Another plus with the bush hat other than concealment is it good to keep the spider webs and twigs out of ur face while hiding in the bush, and always gloves. I really enjoyed this video, ur videos are always so relaxing and entertaining, thanks brother, take care of ur self.
Thank you Alan! I'm glad you liked it that much. Good points, I pretty much have to rotate my camo patterns between winter and summer due to foliage colors. Thanks for watching brother
Good stuff- Ive used camo in woodland and arctic environments and no matter what environment your in, same rules apply with regard to blending into your surroundings and keeping a low profile behind natural concealment. The 3 main types of camo that I like is the old school BDU woodland, the multi-cam and the German Flecktarn pattern. Thanks for your vids and be safe out there-
Thanks, Im glad you liked it. I agree 100%! In this video tho I tried to not hide behind things too much. I could have just worn earth tones to do that. I wanted to see which camo started out as effective. I have a flectarn outfit I didnt show. Thanks for the comments and Thanks for watching
Good choices. Dave wore a flecktarn suit several months ago and it was highly effective in hiding him in his demonstration. Another very effective pattern, I think, is the A-TACS patterns. There aren't any distinctive lines separating the various color shades.
That was very interesting Dave, and you sure just about covered everything, and the cover you picked as your #1 at the 23 minute mark,I agree you were almost invisible. Some stood out very obvious but like you say you have to break up your pattern of a human shaped object in the woods, deer and other animals know their turf pretty well and you have to beat em at their own game of camouflage. Thanks for the video and hope you had a great Thanksgiving, take care brother and thanks for taking the time to show us the many options.
Thanks and Im glad you liked it Dennis. Very well said, youre in the animals home base and they know it well enough that they can spot whats out of place. We had a good Thanksgiving and I hope yours was happy too. Take care and thanks for watching.

Once in the fall we were out driving through the forest in the fall with all the colors. My dad was wearing an argyle sweater vest and khaki pants (this was in the sixties) with bright yellow, red, blue, green and purple diamonds. He got out of the truck, walked a few steps into the forest and literally disappeared. Who would have thought that something that bright and colorful would have provided camo.
I have a gilly suit I wore in one of my videos.. we laughed the whole time while setting up. 😂😂🤣🤣 Thanks for the video brother. Hope you and Nick had a great Thanksgiving
Nick and I have ghille suits too. They are a lot of fun but we noticed they snag on pretty much everything! We had a good Thanksgiving and I hope yours was happy too. Take care and thanks for watching Brother Mark
The Multicam pattern with hood was the first setup that I thought was effective. The brim added a bit of useful shadow. The next one that took my fancy was the green mesh sheet you deployed where there were green fronds in front.
Your videos are so relaxing to watch man, thank you for doing all this. @ 33:00 is to cover your ears from the cold. YOU are the crazy guy I wonder about hiding from in the woods lol! Just kidding, but I couldn't imagine being out hunting pigs and see some guy changing clothes and hiding 🤣
Thanks, Im glad you liked it. Lol, I never thought about it but some crazy guy might have been out there watching me change camo outfits! Thanks for watching
The bug net did really well, the shemege I feel is the best head dress as long as you don’t wear glasses. The boonies with bug netting I think breaks up your contour from the top of your head to the end of the shoulders. The tiger stripe camo is still the best when it comes to the eastern side of the US. Especially in the swamps like in Florida where I play at. Woodland runs second for me. The poncho did magnificent but it’s freaking hot with one on. I always say if your going to wear a poncho in the rain sit still or you Might as well just cover your gear and walk because you will be just as wet from sweating wearing one in the rain walking around.
In my time outdoors hunting, if I’m completely still (not even moving head) wild game will keep moving their heads while looking at me. If I don’t move and they don’t scent me, I can watch them for awhile. I’ve had deer and squirrel finally go back to eating or walking thru. I wear olive green pants and a green/black flannel and camo hat and sometimes gloves. I think movement and scent is really how they know I’m there. Wearing blaze orange doesn’t seem to affect them. If I’m on public land I wear something with blaze orange for other hunters to see me. Great video Dave, I can listen to you ramble on because you always teach me something new 🦃👍
Very well said, I've always been told movement and scent is a huge giveaway. Even when no hunting it's interesting to see how close you can get to animals. Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching
Hello my friend, Happy Thanksgiving Dave. Cool things to think about in this video. Do you own a ghillie suit? I really like those for camouflage. Hope you had some real good eats yesterday. Me, I gobbled till I wobbled! 😂. See you on the next one. 07

Hi Dave! This was another fun video. There is a reason we call it "Fun in The Woods", right? LOL. I am sure you have studied these scenes, so there is nothing new I can tell you about them. I will say my observation was that the face is almost always the giveaway. This really underlines the value of face paint and random shaped head gear, as you point out. I hope you and young Nick had a great Thanksgiving.

Always appreciate your "Out of the box" way of thinking sir. Thanks again for the quality content and God Bless! ; D
Out of the box is the only way to think! Thanks for watching and may God bless you too my friend
Hi my friend,
loved this video, you brought up a lot of very good points ‼️
Also using a poncho to break up your outline was another great point 👍🏻
Another thing you can do is by using a camo sheet or netting cut some slits in it so you can put natural foliage in it .
Very interesting and informative ‼️Great job 👍🏻 Loved seeing all the outfits 💯
Thanks for sharing,
take care and stay strong Brother 👍🏻🇺🇸
Hello and Im glad you liked it. Your idea of putting slits in a sheet gave me another idea. Sew little paracord loops all over it to add and hold twigs and branches! The slits will eventually rip but loops will last. Thanks for watching
@@Reallybigmonkey1 Hi Dave, if you use a nylon green fishnet to attach to the corners of the sheet or camo net you can attach natural foliage easier my friend 👍🏻
Take care and stay strong ‼️🇺🇸
Excellent video with a ton of good info. The practical demonstrations in the woods are exactly what you need to see which type/pattern works.
Thank you Hiram! I'm glad you liked it my friend
It's all helps to a degree. Some more so than others. What really impressed me was how much motion effects visibility. Very important to remain still. And it seems very difficult to come up with pattern that works with completely unobstructed view but the better ones became effective even with light cover.
Good points Samuel, thanks for watching
At least once a year I have to give you a shout out from the first video I watched which was about the utility of a steel bowl as part of camp cooking and sort of just a good piece of kit. Glad to see you as friendly and lighthearted as ever and still making videos. Happy Holidays and keep having fun in the woods!
Always great to hear from you and It'll always be upbeat and fun around here. Thanks for watching!
I Love me some camo You did a great job exploring the ways of camouflage use It has made me do some thinking on some different ways to use my gear in a less visual way Thank you for sharing 👍🏽👍🏽
Camo is nothing but fun to me! Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
Sniper veil is the only one we use for that purpose. It lets wind passes trough it and you can let it around your neck when it's cold. It doesn't slip as other materials do, so you can easily set it on any backpack. Just offer your back to the viewer et voilà.
Makes sense to me! The sniper veil is definitely a good piece of gear
Thanks Dave! Happy Holidays buddy!
Thanks and Happy Holidays to you too Dawg!
Shape, shine, shadow, silhouette, and movement are the giveaway. Great video. 👍thank you 😊
Absolutely! I'm glad you liked it and thanks for watching Gerard
great video Dave. Survival Theory starts every video of him hiding and you got to find him...
Ive seen a few of his videos. Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching Jeanette
I really enjoyed watching Dave. A lot of good ideas on stealth my friend. Take care and have a great weekend. Tennessee
Thanks, Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching and you have a good weekend too Jeff!
the sunlight shining on you was the biggest giveaway
Yep, gotta use them shadows to your advantage
Excellent camouflage Effectiveness video!
Thanks Brother! I'm glad you liked it
Excellent! think i need to make a hooded cape...........
Thanks, Im glad you liked it. Capes are fantastic for breaking up the human shape!
Fun video, a sort of where's waldo, if he was center screen every time. Seriously, good information, ideas.
Lol, I'm glad you liked it Jim!
Wow there were times there we couldn’t see you at all. Really enjoyed that Dave cheers. 😁😁😁😁
Thats means the camo worked! Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching Michelle
Love it. Those panels coupled with a sniper vale would be awesome. Tony w/ Po' Boy Adventures.
Thanks, Im glad you liked it. As time goes on Ill add more fabrics with different patterns. Thanks for watching
Great video my friend, you just got a new subscriber!🙏
Thanks for the sub and I'm glad you liked the video!
Loved this video. I love them all actually. 😄 I just love you guys and your adventures. God bless.
Thanks! I'm glad you like them all! And may God bless you too my friend
Great video and thank you for taking the time to make them.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. This was definitely a lot of fun to film!
@@Reallybigmonkey1 Hopefully you can do more videos before the end of the year.
@@oathtaker2768 I'm planning some now!
Great job, Dave! Always love camo.
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it
Good stuff- Ive used camo in woodland and arctic environments and no matter what environment your in, same rules apply with regard to blending into your surroundings and keeping a low profile behind natural concealment.
@@Reallybigmonkey1 Yes- some of the camo you used was pretty effective even when not behind something. Good stuff-
Good choices. Dave wore a flecktarn suit several months ago and it was highly effective in hiding him in his demonstration. Another very effective pattern, I think, is the A-TACS patterns. There aren't any distinctive lines separating the various color shades.
@@jamescrowe7892 Yes- the A-TACS patterns have more of a 3D look which is very effective in blending the edges and colors
Thanks Dave!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching James!
These are great ideas!
Thank you Sean!
Great advise, good seeing you again Dave.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it
Fun video, thanks!
Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching Jefferson
A couple of great ideas.
Thanks man!!
Note to self, shade is better.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. Shade and shadows are definitely helpful!
this was fun and informative please do more. It's like trying to find Bigfoot.
Thanks Susan! I'm glad you liked it. I think the best way of finding Bigfoot would definitely be from using camo tactics and staying hidden

Excellent class in camo mate. Learn alot from your show. So when will be the next cooking & making coffee in the bush.? Or even better a family heading out hunting for Bigfoot.!? Stay safe cobber from Australia.
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. Nick and I are planning our usual end of the year eating video coming up. I'll never show a Bigfoot hunting video unless I actually get to see one! Take care and thanks for watching
In the fall I can see that working! Thanks for sharing that and thanks for watching
The Tree timber conceal pattern looks nice, could definitely make use of that.
It's fantastic around large oak trees. Thanks for watching
Great vid, loved all the camo saw some I will procure. 10X was an excellent brand. Wish I could find some now.
Thanks Sharon, Im glad you liked it. Too bad they stopped making that 10x. Thanks for watching
Always fun over here brother. A lot of times I couldn't see ya lol. That thing your sister got ya I believe is for your ears like a headband.
Thanks, Im glad you liked it. Lol, that means the camo did its job! Thanks for watching
Excellent analysis and presentation...learned a great deal....the grandma's curtain material was super effective...it really took ur silhouette away
Thanks Curtis! I'm glad you liked it. It's amazing how some of the most common items can make great camouflage
Great!!!!! THX Brother
I'm glad you liked it David!
I have a gilly suit I wore in one of my videos.. we laughed the whole time while setting up. 😂😂🤣🤣
Thanks for the video brother. Hope you and Nick had a great Thanksgiving
Nick and I have ghille suits too. They are a lot of fun but we noticed they snag on pretty much everything! We had a good Thanksgiving and I hope yours was happy too.
Take care and thanks for watching Brother Mark
Great video!!!
Thank you my friend!
Laying prone on the ground would increase the effectiveness of all the camouflage you used just saying, great video dave
I agree, you gotta stay low. I'm glad you liked it and thanks for watching brother
The Multicam pattern with hood was the first setup that I thought was effective. The brim added a bit of useful shadow. The next one that took my fancy was the green mesh sheet you deployed where there were green fronds in front.
Some work, some you have to make work with shadows, sun and foliage. Thanks for watching James
Good to see a video going over different camouflages and showing them in use.
I'm glad you liked it!
2nd camo amazing bigmonkey peace and love from 1 leg UK England
It gets better as it goes along!
This was REALLY interesting Dave! You always prove that it's good to think outside the box. You've given me some things to think aboit!
Fantastic to hear that my friend! I'm glad it gave you ideas and thanks for watching
great ideas like always another awesome video thanks 👍
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it brother
Thanks for the comments Hiram and thanks for watching
Great video Dave. Thank you! 👍😁
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!
Great video Dave! Thanks for posting!
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it my friend
I agree with you, that was the best camo.
Thanks JW
Hello and a Happy Thanksgiving to you too! We ate like hogs. Lol. Nick and I both have ghille suits. They work great but I was sticking to normal wear suited for hiking or camping. Take care and thanks for watching brother
been awhile since i seen one of your vids. nice you are still at it.
I've been filming pretty much non stop since 2011. Thanks for watching my friend!
Hello Terry and Im glad you liked it! Yep, the face color and shape is the biggest giveaway We had a good Thanksgiving and I hope yours was happy too.
Take care and thanks for watching.
Great video Dave , good tips , have a wonderful weekend , thanks for sharing , God bless brother !
Thanks Michael, I'm glad you liked it. You have a good weekend too, thanks for watching and may God bless you too
