- This video is about Grease...but I guess you read the title and you know that already. After visiting every other Grease filming location this was the one that had eluded me for years and I was finally able to get inside and film locations from some of the most iconic scenes from the movie. Born to Hand Jive, Greased Lightning, the bonfire scenes and more were all shot here. Pretty epic and much love and thanks to Principal Garibaldi and the staff and students at Huntington Park High School for welcoming me into the school.

Grease is a 1978 American musical romantic comedy film based on the 1971 musical of the same name by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. Written by Bronte Woodard and directed by Randal Kleiser in his theatrical feature film debut, the film depicts the lives of greaser Danny Zuko and Australian transfer student Sandy Olsson who develop an attraction for each other. The film stars John Travolta as Danny, Olivia Newton-John as Sandy, and Stockard Channing as Betty Rizzo, the leader of the Pink Ladies.
The exterior Rydell scenes, including the basketball, baseball and track segments, were shot at Venice High School in Venice, California, while the Rydell interiors, including the high school dance, were filmed at Huntington Park High School.
I was class of '79 HPHS. I remember when Greece was being filmed at HPHS. It was so good to see our school highlighted and such an iconic movie.

I was about 4 and I lived down the street on Randolph St when this was being film. All I remember is my older sister's playing the record over and over on our console.. rip Olivia 🙏

@@mariotovar2173 I new kids that went to hp high, they always talked about it, but yeah most people don't know. I think Hp dont care. Local government has different interests along with the Highschool and dont really care in preserving its city even if something like this is known world wide

Wow Scotty! Words fail me. It is unbelievable what you have achieved by showing us the school where Grease was filmed. Even more special because you took us to the gymnasium before the building is brought down in the near future. This video will be remembered for a long time and maybe one of its kind for Grease fans to see and bring back a lot of memories. I can never forget the scene with Cha Cha DiGregorio ( who pranced around the floor. I hated her) Danny, Sandy and the rest of the guys had such a great time. Also Principal McGee office with Blanche enjoying herself and the Autobody shop, where Danny sang Grease Lightning. So cool. Even the stairs and hall struck a chord because of the funny dialogues between Danny and his friends. I would also like to thank Principal Garibaldi and Julio of Huntington Park High School for allowing you to film in his school. Hopefully there will be more like him who open their doors to you as you make us happy by bringing us good memories. All the kids are going to be really excited to watch this video. Love the movie. Even more, I went to Huntington Park High School, class of ‘94. I had classes and my locker was near the Principal’s Office. The shop was still there when I was in school. In fact, one of my classes was in front of the Auto shop. Best time ever!! So many great memories. Thank you for showing my high school. 😢

For anyone who DOESN’T know LAUSD is destroying the HPHS Gymnasium & building an outdoor pool RIGHT IN ITS PLACE in the next month so if you’ve ever wanted to go in the gym you should go now.

Jay Silk No, it’s going to be demolished in about a year. Until LAUSD finishes building the gym that will replace it. Then it will be demolished & the outdoor pool will be in its former place.

I've been waiting for this Scott thank you so much! I know so many people love this so I guess... What the hell is one more time... Love this very much thank you for your work. I saw this film in the theaters the summer of 1978. It's hard to describe and put the lens on for other people who were not alive at that time to make them understand what a huge hit this was. This was such a major big deal especially after Travolta was in Saturday Night Fever before this. Did you know Travolta used his clout from Saturday Night Fever to get the solo Grease Lightning? It was Kenickie's car after all! Jeff Conaway was not happy about it but the director was able to calm everyone down and let it finish. Thanks again Scott you're the best... Be safe out there and keep them coming!

So, I managed to find all 3 of your episodes in order Scott. I was a little kid, the first time I saw the movie. I didn't understand some things but, loved the music. I had the album. One time when i was at Disneyland, with a boyfriend, there was a Dance party with Frankie Avalon. We got to do the Hand Jive, just like in the movie. What a Blast that was, It was a time I will never forget. :^) Julianna

If I didn't move to Texas, I would be going to H.S at HP! I grew up in Los Angeles and it amazes me how much history that school has, being over 100 years old, I remember seeing pictures of how the auditorium was back in the day, the old school wooden chairs, hand crafted designs on the wall, wooden stage. it screamed 1950s! I can see why the producers of Grease decided on this location as part of the shooting scenes. thank you so much for this video man!

Oh the memories!! Loved that movie & had the record, sadly it is warped...kinda like me. I'll have to go back & see the other 2 videos. Congrats on finally getting the last of the three and finishing your series. The movie aside, listening to that basketball game in progress brought me back to high school and tennies "squeak" on the gym floor. Was having a pretty tough day today and thanks to a little "Greased Lightening" I feel much better. THAT is much appreciated. P.S. You got me....I thought the door was locked.

I grew up down the street and graduated from HPHS class of 1985 . Actually rode my bike and witnessed some filming. Best movie ever!
Hey Scotty, I see Grease Filming locations by Scotty.....I drop everything, and click!! Amazing video and access Man. I loved it! In my top 5 movies of all time and the fams and I have easily watched it over a hundred times each in our lives, easily. And the give it the old school feel, when we now watch Grease with our daughter (who's 11 years old and has loved since she was tiny), we actually watch it on tape and on a VHS VCR and on a old fat CRT TV in my retro room. And it still looks crisp as too. I went to a wedding only this weekend just gone, and my cousins and I were reciting lines from the movie and saying how between the few of us that we could write down the whole movies script word for word. As soon as I seen the principles office I knew the exact layout and spotted the door. And it so so cool that even the office desk and little side door is still original, bloody cool as! Things were built to last in those days. And poor Eugene's steps and railing (shake buddy!), still exactly the same. And you got to stand exactly were Grease Lighting was parked, Man! I wish that the basketball game wasn't running as it would of been great for you to line up some shots, and sad to think that will probably the last time you visit the gym. So awesome that you got actually inside before it got torn down, nice work. Ha, the cameo! We loved and still do, how pumped that dude during the dance scene was when we were kids and now. He was definitely in the zone in that scene 🤣 Loved the running track location too. Looks like that was were Danny's hurdle trip was filmed too. Same railings, steps etc were Sandy and Tom were standing watching Danny. Lucky for you that there weren't any dingleberries on parade when you were out there that day 😆 Fantastic video Man, loved every second of it! Keep up the awesome work. The fams and I would LOVE if you did a 'The Karate Kid' (1984, as if I needed to say that) locations video one day, that would be the best.................around! I had to do it, ha. It’s so funny I was literally just wandering around the gym and I think I could have gone closer and just filmed the floor or better angles and they wouldn’t have even cared haha. Oh well, at least I finally got in there. And I’ll tell you something, you hear some bad things about “kids today” lol (I sound like an old man GET OFF MY LAWN!) but they were some of the nicest kids I’ve encountered and all smiling and polite. Bodes well for the future. It’s so cool that u still watch it on vhs . That’s wild

My first time watching grease was during snow day in high school. I was literaly forced to watch it by a room completely full of girls because they found out I hadn't seen it. It is now one of my favorite movies 👍😁

My high school during 1979 to 1981. Glad you enjoyed walking the campus. Much has remained the same minus a few upgrades to the field and to the now defunct auto shop. I had my fair share of suicides and running the lines on the BB court. Great memories.

I actually go to HPHS and you missed the classroom scene in room 74
I’m three years late, but you got everything except for the beach that is used at the beginning of the movie. That beach is a small patch of Leo Carrillo State Beach, about eight miles west of Point Dume in Malibu, and about 100 yards west of where Mulholland Highway meets Pacific Coast Highway & the ocean. To access this small patch of beach, you have to go down a staircase. The patch is pretty much hidden due to the rocks. The rocks have caves though (you can see once of the caves during the scene where Danny asks Sandy if it’s over)
The caves and the surrounding beach area have been seen in many films and TV shows,
including “The Karate Kid,” and “That Thing You Do,” "Baywatch", "Star Trek: DS9" and the “X-Files”.

Hey good video. I went to Huntington Park HS between 1987 and 1990. The only thing I thought was also in Grease that you did not mention was the Gazebo scenes in Grease, where Sandy is signing "hoplessly Devoted to you".

Scott I don’t know what the principle told you but The original plan was to bring the gym up to code & retrofit the whole gymnasium but once LAUSD did the estimate they’d rather build an uglier version of the gym instead of building one to match its historically significant features like the balcony bleachers. If you look at the early renditions of the remodel the whole gym is in the plans but LAUSD said “it’s a waste of money” but Mr.Garybaldie is a great principle he was mine for 2 years great person. Just some information LAUSD doesn’t want the public to know. In fact Huntington Park High School’s campus was designated a historic campus around 2003 but LAUSD doesn’t care about its history especially since its in a working class area. I was personally in the “modernization” meetings & about a thousand people pleaded with LAUSD to spend a little more money to retro fit the gymnasium but LAUSD preferred to build a new one for the SAME cost it would have costed to retro fit the Entire gym including the “indoor pool” built in 1913, “small gym” boys & girls locker room & the historic Gymnasium. A Fun fact each of those buildings were built in different years the whole gymnasium is actually 4 totally different buildings built in different years. #CO2018
To add another note LOL, it was very simple to retro fit the gym all they had to do was to bring the gym up to code witch could have easily have happened if LAUSD would spend money on its schools witch they never do. LAUSD was award of its historic significance to the community but they did not care. They just wanted to throw a little money on the campus to they don’t touch it for another 50 years so if it any of the old buildings ever have any problems they could just say “HPHS was intensively modernized a few years ago” if it ever had small problems. But HPHS was a great school I loved my 4 years there.

The balcony wasn't used in the movie, the people and the bleachers they sat at was on the gym floor against the wall.🎉
