Thank you. I have 2015 MacBook Air and just got a second monitor. Your video was very helpful for understanding the proper setup and especially the links to equipment you demonstrated would work with my machine. There were a lot of adapters out there but like you said you have to read the fine print because a lot of the fine print said 'will only support one monitor' or 'will not work with Mac'. The DisplayLink adapter now costs $63 on Amazon but was well worth the investment as it worked immediately. Many many thanks once again.
Thank you for the video it was very helpful. I purchased the RayCue adapter yesterday on Amazon and installed it today on my 2017 Macbook Air. The devise works great and my dual monitor set up is finally up and running.
Thanks for this very useful video. You mentioned 1 significant think that worked for me..."DisplayLink". I went and download the drivers and that stopped my flickering screen. The Techs tried, but it seems the Thunderbolt 2 from Mac computers are not as compatible with all input Monitor ports, hence the need for driver updates. Thanks again and keep up the great work
it was so hard to find a video that explained this for my specific problem, thank you so much for including all the direct links to everything. it helped tremendously. bought all the products cant wait to use them.
Really helpful video. Whilst I didn’t have the exact same set up, this vid helped me figure out how to get the adapter to work. I used a hdmi mini display port adapter and a hdmi to USB adapter and eventually worked after watching this to be patient with installing the drivers. Connected to a macbook air 2015 and two phillips 22 inch monitors. Thanks.
Was "DisplayLink" drivers specific to the usb-to-hdmi device that you used or was it a generic driver/app to be used for usb-type display extender? I hope the question was clear enough. Thank you for this video
This might be a dumb question but if i only want to connect one monitor say the samsung one. Would I just need the mini displayport to VGA port and the VGA to VGA cable?
Thank you so much for this video! It was beyond helpful! Instead of using the displaylink external monitor adapter a cheaper alternative is the j5create USB 3.0 to 4k HDMI Display Adapter (JUA354) for just one monitor setup or the JUA365 for dual monitor setup. The setup with this adapter is so much easier than the the display link.
Felicitaciones este es el tutoría más sincero y útil que he visto. Andaba buscando esto mismo para mi vieja MacBook Air 2017 ya que la necesito junto a mi nueva MacBook con varias pantallas. Muchas gracias
What a great vid ! :) ... Now im using MacBook 2018 and I really wanna buy a 4k monitor... but so many people have been told me that it will cause a lot of heat on the Macbook ... Would u give me some tip for this? Or do u think it wont be a problem ?
You're a genius! Thank you so much! I design websites - my imac is in the shop and was left with my 2017 macbook air and two monitors, one unusable... They say it couldn't be done, but you figured it out! Thank you so much!
Hey, when I connect my MacBook Air to a LG MONITOR via VGA, the quality of the monitor display is quite bad, firstly I thought it was the Monitors fault but when I connected it to my PS4 the quality was good. Kindly help me, thank you.
anyone know how to rotate the second auxiliary screen 90º on macbook air 2015 connected via usb 3 type A to displayport adapter? first aux screen is connected via mini displayport directly to screen. tia
I tried to setup the same for single display with same samsung monitor, But i cannot find arrangements in Display setting. (Is it mandate to have Display Link software? )
In the old days, I wouldn’t run an external monitor because the heat would detach the GPU from the logic board resulting in a totally dead laptop screen. Not sure if this is still an issue (such as in the 2017 MacBook Air). Pushing the limit by running more monitors than Apple’s design intended may have consequences? I would love to hear if anyone had negative experiences doing this.
I have been using this same external monitor since I made this video and my computer is fine. I don’t keep it connected all the time because sometimes I travel with my computer, but it’s connected to the external monitor at least 70% of the time. Hope that answers your question
Great video! I have an insignificant question but when moving your mouse from screen to screen, does it enter the monitors from the top or side to side?
I had a similar question before & found out you can rearrange your monitor flow. Just go to system preferences > displays > arrangement > click on any monitor (colored blue) and drag it either to the left or right (you can play around with it & see which works best) :)
What if i only want one extra monitor can it still be done? If so do i only use one adapter and how do i put the setting for it not to mirrow the macbookr air
If you want one monitor (so your setup includes the laptop and the one monitor) then you have two main options. 1. A Mini DisplayPort to HDMI → one end plugs into the MacBook the other into the monitor (this is the setup I used when I had one monitor) 2. Some sort of adapter with one end being Mini DisplayPort or USB and the opposite side the proper port for the cable you decide to use. For example, you could get a Mini DisplayPort to vga adapter THEN hook up the vga cord to the adapter and the monitor. Therefore, this set up requires 2 components to purchase. Honestly, if you’re confident that you only need one monitor I’d just by the one cord I mentioned above. It’s quick and simple. There’s also no additional software needed.
If you want to use the monitor as an extension of your laptop rather than mirror: Go to: System preferences → Displays In the window that pops up, click the tab that says “Arrangement” There’s a checkbox at the bottom that says “Mirror Displays”. Unchecking this box means that the monitor will act as an extension rather than as a mirror.
no i am student of Bachelor of computer application and i am planing to buy a macbook so i think macbook air 2017 is good for my all coding and programming
@@deveshvyas2455 you can literally code on any computer, so yes, you can code on macbook air. The only difference is the size of certain programs and the time it will take to run them and the speed etc. So, if you're going to be coding large programs, I suggest a computer with a larger RAM, possibly a Macbook Pro. If you're doing smaller programs, the air should be sufficient, but just limit the amount of stuff you have open at anytime (i.e. quit unnecessary applications etc.). Hope this helps.

So a thunder bolt and a Mini DisplayPort is the same thing right?

I haven't tried this yet; however, this is the first video I've seen that addresses the 'how to' with any sort of plausibility. Thanks!
you are a lifesaver! Thank you so much for this video! I may have issues with the troubleshooting but to know that this is possible, I am so happy!

I used TESmart USB to HDMI converter (around £32 on Amazon) and just the basic Amazon Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter)
Does this still work for you? Apparently lots of people having problems after the last update and I can't get it to work for me
Thank you for your sharing. Can I use a 2K resolution monitor as my second monitor for the Macbook Air 2017?
It doesn’t detect the 3 monitors even after following the Your video recommendations. Any advise??
Was "DisplayLink" drivers specific to the usb-to-hdmi device that you used or was it a generic driver/app to be used for usb-type display extender? I hope the question was clear enough. Thank you for this video
How to set the Resolution for the Monitor .?
This might be a dumb question but if i only want to connect one monitor say the samsung one. Would I just need the mini displayport to VGA port and the VGA to VGA cable?
yes
Can I also buy a usb to hdmi splitter that would be cheaper right?
Hi, do you notice any drop in performance using a dual monitor setup?
Sometimes it's a little laggy but I mainly use my set up for coding and editing videos so it's not something I have an issue with.
Thank you so much for this video! It was beyond helpful! How did you get those adaptors to work? I have a Macbook air 2017 and couldn't get either adaptor to work for me.
This was super helpful. Thank you.
You could have used 1 mini port to HDMI cable and one usb to HDMI cable simple connection

Excellent - really helpful. Thanks!
Will this process work for an older Mac air? I believe mine is 2013 or 2014, not sure.
yes
I wish I could help but in the beginning of this video I said "this video is for those with my specific issue" because I can't help beyond that
Thats where I’m at too. This is the best video yet, to help demystify this topic

Haha thanks

Yea I think it’s the only way it works

Does this still work with MacBook Air 2017 running on macOS Big Sur?
Up
Yes I just updated my air to Big Sur and it works just fine
Thanks bunches. Really helped.
NP! Happy to help :)
Thank you!!! I was able to do it!

I have 2011 link which isnt on display link...what shall i do?
I wish I knew
What other brands of external monitor would work best for 2017 Macbook Air?
There's a section in my video where I tell you where to look for other adapters.
Thank you!
I’m not a genius... What’s the point to downloading the driver? 👀 What does it do?
The adapter will not work without the driver
Self Taught AI thank you! I’m teacher and I had to buy two screens for all the virtual learning. Thank you so much.

6:20 uhmmmmmm.. I don't think so
I believe in you 😂
Instead of using an adaptor just buy a cable that has both ports you need. Adaptors fail sooner than the cable will.
Thanks for the advice but 4 years later and my adapter is still working and works with both my 2021 MacBook Pro and 2016 MacBook Air
