  • Justin Marshall - former All Blacks halfback and now a highly regarded rugby commentator - joins Martin Devlin on It's Only Sport, talking everything All Blacks following the Rugby Championship and ahead of the end of year tour in the northern hemisphere.
The Kiwis finished second behind South Africa in TRC with three wins from six, handing coach Scott Robertson a 6-3 record on the year so far. New Zealand next heads on the road for five tests in five weeks, highlighted by a three-week stretch of England, Ireland and France in their backyards.
Marshall offers a realistic expectation of how the All Blacks will perform in those five matches.

He’s analysis is as good as his pass from the base of the scrum .

Agreed, he knows the game backwards - like Murray Mexted does too. But I wish JM would stop trying to use big words: sometimes he mispronounces them or uses them outta’ context. He should the wankers who are ‘media training’ him.
Why not just front as the talented rugby kid from Gore? Wtf’s wrong with that?

I give them a c +. I predicted at the beginning of the year that they would win 9 or 10 from 14 and they are on track. The pack is great. But the 10, 12, 13 are a real problem. Look at how well Alb passed , set up two tries. Plummer alb, proctor, for me. Worth a shot against Japan

Blackadder is far too injury prone. Barrett is ok but is liable to have brain explosions under pressure at 10. We need to find a solid, no frills number 10 who can kick goals in the high 80% range. I’d like to see Plumber given a few games at 10.

Australia is ranked 10th. Hard to grade the ABs based on how they played against the 10th ranked team. It is delusional think the ABs have improved.

Australia played well, we showed much improved game management . Pity you can't see that, and I give the season c +. Not a B

A,B, C or D - it does not matter, the lack of preparation for 2027 and lack of new blood is the main concerm, using the same players who have failed st the highest level since 2018 is the concern, time to invest

its the first year in the cycle. The 2023 all blacks only really started preparing for the world cup after they lost the irish series. we'll be fine.

Thee secret to beat the all blacks is to do something that annoys them during the haka period, cause it's the only weapon they got now, England did it 2019 world cup semis, Ireland during 2-1 series win in new Zealand, Argentina did it this year RC first round, the boks did it in third round RC in Ellis Park

The measure of sucess or failure is a measure that requires a Starting, Middle & End Point. So based on that, from what criteria of Rugby Stats are you drawing your conclusions. It's a question with no negative purpose or intention.❤

Great to see ABs finally using the bench correctly. MACKENZIE is a bench player. He should NEVER start again.

That's a slightly different skill set, not sure if he has the tools for it. He has great footwork speed to burn, he does run hard and straight and would be hard to stop. Whether he has the hands to catch and pass and the vision is another thing. But hey his dad would be the best person to help him.

It's not a bad suggestion but probabbly won't happen. But we are missing a big strong ball runner like Nonu or Laumape at 12 or 13. I also liked the way SBW used to offload in the tackle. That skill is so under rated right now.
