Angel's fans are, for the most part, black people who root for her because she is black AND because she IS a good player. Caitlin Clark's fans are both black and white, and are some of the most knowledgeable former and current NBA players and some of the most knowledgeable podcasters around. They know that they are seeing a generational player and are basing their assessment on talent, not skin color.

CC is the real deal....a phenomenal player and I don't say that lightly....how fortunate to watch this play out.
Too bad the fever can't coach and don't seem to understand what they've got.
Caitlin has a gravity field around her that draws the attention of every opponent on defense.
When she drives into the paint sure, but thats how defenses react to anyone that drives the paint. She doesn't drive the paint though. I only see one player guarding her when she brings the ball up and when she gives up the ball I still only see one player running with her. Don't confuse help defense with double-teaming. That;s what all defenses do, or are supposed to do.

That rivalry is not made up in fact Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese has competed against each other from AAU basketball college and now in the WNBA

Clark has no championships not in high school no city no state in fact she wanted to go to UConn but that coach didn’t want her or any of the power house colleges wanted her that’s how she ended up at Iowa.
Angel Reese has championship 6 championships in high both city and state for basketball and volleyball and college basketball

Only person in WNBA with more than 3 is Alyssa Thomas and I think she has half the leagues at 15. Sabrina Ionescu is 2nd all time with 3.

If Reese gets it, the backlash will be mostly towards the league. Some backlash will be from Clark’s fans, but mostly towards the league.
It’s only halfway in the season, may the best player win. Keep in mind that sports politics will play a big part in this race. There’s a lot of pressure to both players, but each of them, has to do something extra ordinary to dismiss all doubts. So there’s no question, that whom ever gets the award, truly deserves it.

Anybody who has listened to CC articulating her thoughts and her goals for herself would have to say that CC could care less on if she gets roty. She has given the impression that she is laser focused on playing the best bball as she can, and doing her utmost to improve herself and her team. Period
I also guarantee that CC will be the very first player to voice her congratulations to whoever DOES get that roty award. Because thats the kind of person that she's proved herself to be.
I also have heard several people who point out that it's wrong to tear down Angel if you're pro CC, and vice versa, that's why I've been trying to avoid just that. I believe that CC (at THIS point in the season) is the front runner in the roty.That COULD change, time will tell

I agree she doesn't care all that much but that isn't really the point. The league has an agenda that worked with small time non-profit but if it is going to grow and add more mainstream fans it is going to have to embrace positive change instead of trying to control the narrative. Fans care about this stuff.
But we've also heard that Caitlin has a Kobe Bryant mentality, and she even texted Sides saying they created a monster when they snubbed her for Team USA, while acting like it wasn't a big deal publicly. You're right that if Caitlin doesn't win, then she'll congratulate anyone who does publicly, and she'll even praise them for it. But behind closed doors? I think that'll only add more fuel to the fire for Caitlin to work on her game, so she can make those voters eat their words in future seasons. If anything, they'll just motivate Caitlin to get better over time. Not saying Angel won't either, but I think Caitlin will have a more successful career than Angel over time; assuming both the WNBA and Indiana don't run her out of the league by that point.

I think people should look at another stats to really see the game impacts - CC has DOUBLE the blocks per game (as a guard). As a big, Reese should be WAY ahead of CC.

@@dritz69-q8p The answer is in their respective statures. Caitlin is on the taller end for her position giving her both a shooting and blocking advantage, and Reese is on the shorter end for hers. It certainly doesn’t mean that Reese shouldn’t be getting more blocks.

Only recently I started watching games again. I must admit, the league is starting to draft better as a whole. Back then they just needed bodies to fill the rosters.
The Lakers Showtime fast break begins with a rebound or a steal. Kareem or Magic fast outlet pass to James Worthy or corner dish to Michael Cooper for a 3.

Angel's game is limited whereas Caitlin's is multifaceted. I'm looking forward to Caitlin v. Paige.

Clark's impact to the game far surpasses that of Angel's. Period.
Reese will be the ROTY. CC is a better shooter, but AR is a better player. For all of Clark's offensive acumen, she's only averaging 2 more points a game.
Reese leads in rebounds, PER, Offensive efficiency, Defensive efficiency, win shares, & steals. One is breaking ROOKIE records...the other is setting LEAGUE records!

Clark can stretch the floor with bombs and has good court vision, but overall her offense is predictable; her handles are elementary; she's too slow to beat a slightly above average defender and gets pushed around by stronger ones. Respectfully, she's a front runner who shrinks in big moments, and whines to officials too much even while the ball is live.

Her numbers in terms of points, assists and rebounds should already put her in the MVP race. Her assists are just getting better because her teammates are learning how to play with her (and they are not playing games every other day). So, the fact is that she should be in that discussion right now - forget about ROTY.

The difference between good and great. Great players work SMARTER, not harder. Less skillful and less talented, less athletic players have to work harder to compensate for not being as good. There is a big difference between a good, hard working player and a great one-of-a-kind generational player like Curry and Caitlin or a Serena Williams who, of course, have put in thousands of hours in practice, developing their games. It's the difference between a pack horse and a thoroughbred stallion. Angel Reese is the hardworking pack horse. Caitlin Clark is a thoroughbred stallion like a Stephan Curry, Tiger Woods, Serena Williams, Simone Biles. All are one-of-a-kind generational players.
First time watching the W only because of CC.
Screw ROY, Clark is the MVP... she should be getting a percentage of the attendance fee... Even when she loses, it's in front of a packed arena. 4 teams, 2 of which are the best in the league, had to switch venues due to attendance going up. Put some respect on her name! The only reason ROY matters this year is because Clark is in the mix.
I feel bad for CC. She absolutely never wants to talk about or even shade AR and she can't seem to separate herself. It must be incredibly frustrating.

Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird joined the GOATs of the WNBA without nearly the backlash of Caitlin Clark. Caitlin will almost certainly transform the WNBA like no other and every player and team in the WNBA knows it. That is the only reason Caitlin is covered more closely and blitzed more frequently than any other player. Caitlin is the real deal and very little of it is about race. It's mostly about envy, jealousy and the practical realities of the game.

CC after that game became #1 player in the WNBA with affecting the most points in a game, in all the games together. {Points scored, & assists} She reached 703pts. Certainly this will fluctuate, but it's quite amazing that she SURPASSED 3 other vets!!! A few channels covered this. And actually I 1st saw this on ESPN.

Double doubles with points and rebounds are much more common that double doubles with points and assists. I think about 6 to 1. CC has four double doubles with points and assists in last five games, which includes the triple double. For this season there's only been 19 points-assists DDs. So, CC have four recently is really somthing. Also triple doubles are very rare - only 33 for the history of WNBA! And CC has one of just three this year! So, anyone who is objective and not prejudiced would have to say CC by far. This thing is I think what we have seen from CC the last five games or so will continue and so in a couple weeks or within a couple weeks after the Olympic break, CC will have perhaps another triple double or two and many more pts-assists DDs. So it will really be crazy to say Reece for ROTY

Adrienne your simply awesome. What impresses me about CC her range on some of her shots and her passing is amazing that I just don't see others making. Look at some of the great passers in the NBA, Caitlyn I think ranks up there as a great passer.
The media and WNBA cannot bring themselves to give Clark the respect she has earned. (It's difficult to say this, but, it seems like race.) Reese has been riding the coat tails of Clark since college. She saw a way to keep herself relevant. Few fans really see it as a rivalry.

If Reese played like Clark it would be on blast and the cover of Sports Illustrated. Not only are they propping up Reese, they are discrediting Clark by any means possible. Only good at 3's, turnover machine etc. They completely ignore that Clark is breaking one record after another every other game. It's dishonest and it's shameful. I'm a sinner just like everyone else but it's never occurred to me to throw honesty out the window in favor of race. And even worse it's the media and people in leadership positions doing this.
I'm in agreement with you... save for one thing. The media and the leaders in power have always been the ones who have propagated race over truth in order to manipulate the masses and create the narrative of their choosing. I am a CC fan because of her exceptional skills and the level of excitement she brings to WNBA. However, I'm not surprised by the actions of the aforementioned groups.
Agree 💯! I've been watching Angel back in her Maryland days. She is a good player, but not must watch TV like CC. Angel's game is solid but boring.
Post play has always been boring, except for blocks and ally-oop dunks, and it's unfortunate the WNBA puts so much emphasis on it. Guard play has always been more exciting, from dribble drives to long 3s to turn around fade aways to finding the open shooter with an assist. It's just the more entertaining half of the game. Chennedy Carter is the most exciting Sky player to watch, IMO. Reese puts in steady numbers, but Carter has that sizzle about her game.

There are very few WNBA players where you ever see moments and think "this feels like the NBA" or "she just moved the ball with the same kind of assurance as " or "the release of that shot felt like I was watching the NBA". And that's what CC feels like. She is on such a different level cognitively and intuitively about the game, and the ball. It's crazy

Some commentators try to compare Caitlin Clark vs Angel Reese to Magic vs Bird. No way is the comparison equal to Magic vs Bird. Reese is not up to the task. I agree with Adrienne that Reese can be considered good at best. Both Magic and Bird were masters of the game, and Reese is no where close to that good. Clark is much more advanced with her skills on the court, dealing with the media, and fans. She's a pro when she's dealing with the media and the fans, and she is getting much closer to meeting the expectations placed on her than Reese is.

Anyone with objective eyes can see the truth, doesn't help Angel Reese to give her a trophy or accolades that she doesn't deserve. Angel will NEVER catch Clark, for one, they have two different jobs on the floor and more importantly, based on IQ on the floor and skill set as well as non*selfish play.
Clark was featured in a 4-part documentary on ESPN at the beginning of the year along with Kamilla Cardoso and Kiki. The series was titled Full Court Press.
Maybe the reason the new documentary omits Caitlin is because they wanted to focus on different people this time.
I'm a fan of Caitlin, but this omission doesn't bother me. I'll just go find Full Court Press and stream it to show my support for Caitlin.
Thanks for another great video Adrienne Ross. As usual, you presented viewers with a persuasive argument backed up with basketball stats. There was just one minor error. CC publicly explained that she was making the facial gesture to HER COACHES to let them know that the opposing defense couldn't stop her and therefore the coaches should devise their game plan for offense accordingly. By contrast, Angel Reese made the gesture to TAUNT CC. It's crazy that so many casual WNBA viewers have chosen to ignore the fact that what CC did is completely different from what AR did.
That's what I found also, her gesture was to her coaches, no one else. Clark wins on the maturity level no doubt. As as far as the media and fans take on it, Clark wins on that too since she ignores the issue.

All she needs to do is look the ball in the hoop & on the blocks head fake or kick it out for a 3 which would help her % shouldn't be too hard to fix. Yes Clark has turnover issues which will take a little better judgement & an 2 per game improvement she will be with the pack - by the end of the season both girls should be just fine.

Early in the season, the media was also floating Cameron Brink's name in trial balloons. Unfortunately she suffered a season ending injury, so that removed her name from the discussion.
This "rivalry" was manufactured by the media to draw eyeballs to their talking heads and columnists. Right from the beginning in 2023, the media made a mountain out of the molehill of Angel taunting Caitlin, then kept the narrative going during the following year of college.
And it gave them a story line to continue into the WNBA. Praise Caitlin, and watch Angel's fans get riled up. Then praise Angel and watch Caitlin's fans get riled up. The media is playing games with fan emotions just to keep attention on their latest drivel.
Unfortunately, those media personalities who benefit from keeping the rivalry narrative going are also the ones who will decide who gets Rookie of the Year.

A fix could be done by getting her coach to be complicit. Coach has a lot of power to decide when to bench a player, what plays to call, etc. Not much Caitlin could do if that happens.
