    Just FYI. Etsy is also a treasure trove of vendors that make amazing, hand-made movie prop detail level things from fantasy and sci-fi movies. You can get like hand-drawn and weathered maps from The Hobbit, or replica Skyrim potions in actual bottles, or spell books, you name it. Any item you can think of from any movie or game genre, chances are somebody on Etsy makes it. Particularly Tolkien, Harry Potter, Star Wars, etc.

  • @Blandco
    @Blandco 3 года назад +1

    I am actually still working on my video about buying things through etsy. It's very important to buy from sellers who provide correct info. There are some people on there that are kinda sneaky about hiding the scale details of the 3D printed minis they sell. So basically they show the preview image from something done in 32 MM scale but you get small version that is probably roughly 25 MM scale. So in D&D terms you pay for what clearly seems like a huge sized creature and just get a large one.
    Maybe people will claim that buyer beware but the line of miniatures was designed for a certain scale in mind and clearly the preview images are in that scale. "Licensed" printer or not just don't buy D&D minis from people who don't provide clear information about scale. It's probably less of a concern for wargaming since this sort of thing isn't put up with. I can't believe this person had such good feedback through Etsy.

    So the big thing Atom did not mention about Etsy vs Ebay, Craigslist, Facebook or any other marketplace is that you are not actually buying something already made...
    You are commissioning someone to make it.
    -Sellers typically have 20 days + to post it in the mail
    -the images are not actually of the finished work (don't exist yet)
    -quality may vary
    I've had mixed results on Etsy just like anywhere else.
    -MDF bases, my experience has been great,
    -near immediate shipping
    -no errors
    -resin 3d printed minis... not so much
    -had sellers print out a shipping label and not actually posting until a week later to make it look like they completed the order within advertised time frame
    -had orders where every single resin miniature had errors (weapon arms)

    Reminder to put filters on the search, Etsy lacks (intentionally or not) the ebay feature where you can sort by price PLUS shipping, so if that thing you like is being sent from Russia and the shipping doubles the price, you might want to avoid it even showing there, limit the search by country or something like that

    • @schooner2000
      @schooner2000 3 года назад +1

      Keep in mind Etsy always shows the overall shipping cost on a single item. Many times additional items are no extra cost or only a small per item extra from a given shop. Some assume 2 items will be twice the shipping etc.

      It's pretty quick and easy to setup an Etsy shop. No recurring fees, fees are per listing and on the sales. The biggest issue is people finding your items in the sea of Etsy. Can take a while to get traction. A lot comes down to getting sales and reviews to bump your placement on searches unless you have something very unique.

    Interesting video.
    Although Etsy is active in the UK there is no one yet shipping from here for wargaming. The Costs of shipping to here from abroad are so absurdly high these days as to be prohibitive for most items.

    You can find some cool wargaming options anywhere. I recently picked up a small wall shelf about 12'' in length cheap and I'm going to be turning it into a sci-fi wall for example.

    A friend of mine launched a token printing operation here in the UK about three years ago here in the UK. He's been selling on Etsy for some time.

    I’ve been on Etsy for years and I never thought about this before! I’ve never searched for any of this stuff 🤦🏻‍♂️ the shame!

    DOH! I've been using Etsy for a while, and I'm new to AOS... didn't know about the 'base converters' 🤦‍♀😭... I *JUST* addressed some WFB based minis i'd bought from the ebay... I tore em off, shame cos they were pretty nicely scenically based.
    Great video... been binging your videos, tonnes of great stuff!

    This is super awesome! Etsy is wonderful for both sellers and buyers. I've sold a ton of finished terrain on Etsy. It's a really nice place to sell stuff. They are super out there so they take a hefty commission so price accordingly! That said, as a buyer, you can also find nice deals!

    Haha, that's some fortuitous timing there Uncle Adam. I literally just picked up a set of objective markers for 40k on Etsy earlier this week!

    When I built my own paint rack-shelving unit I reached out to TheGoblinTavern on etsy who cuts paint holders out of MDF. Sent my measurements and they cust a custom sized dropper bottle holder that fit in my shelf unit.
    Also lots of recasters selling stuff on there as well - from what I can tell most of the 40k models are recast.
