Thanks Jamie, I’m going to have to learn to deal with the Cali heat better. It caught up on me yesterday and I had to withdraw. Still, there were many lessons learned for the next one.
Always a lesson to be learned. I’ve found out the most about myself from DNF’s. I’d rather run in the arctic than California, so no doubt I’d have suffered a similar, if not more premature, fate
Thanks, unfortunately I had to withdraw after 50 miles. I guess I’m not used to running in 30+ degree heat 🥵 Recovery is going well 👍 Thanks for watching.
Thanks Tadeusz, unfortunately heat exhaustion caught me in the end. I guess my poor Irish body just isn’t used to running in 30 degree heat 🥵 Many learning though. I should probably write them down before I forget 😂
@@filmmytrailrun Great idea, got a taste of it when a race up in Kippure for a 10k a couple of weeks back was very unexpectedly sunny and I got sunburned. Saw some of the UTMB race streamed live. Glad to see some Irish runners doing well.
At least it wasnt a serious injury that forced you to withdraw 30 degree sure as irish men we'd struggle to walk to shop for an ice cream in that heat 😂 hope recovery goes well for next race and that you adjust to the heat 👍
Thanks Pah, yeah I knew myself that the game was up for me when I pulled. I was completely cooked. Absolutely no regrets. Loads of learnings…which i better learn fast because my next race is a 100 miler in June. That has carnage written all over it 🥵 I hope your own running is going well my friend in beautiful cool damp Ireland.
Thanks Paul. In the end it was the heat that caught me. 30+ degrees. You think you’re doing fine…until you’re not 🥵 Anyway no one lost a limb 😂 We regroup, take the learnings and go again 🏃♂️
Thanks for the welcome. Interesting times ahead…once I get used to the crazy heat. Claire really enjoyed volunteering here in Auburn. We’d both like to do more of that.
Go for it, Dave ! It's a challenging course - just what you love !! Good luck & ENJOY !! 😘
Thanks Murs, wasn’t the result I wanted but I made the right call.to withdraw.
Good luck, great to have you back and looking forward to lots of Cali content

It was a great treat meeting you and hanging out for a bit. Let me know if you ever end up near central Texas!
The pleasure was all mine. I’ll be keeping a close eye on the Habanero Hundred this year 😉
Glad to see you back. Good luck with the race.

Best of luck Dave, hope your sacco iliac joints loosen up soon
Thanks Nigel, the SI joint was ok, it was the heat that caught me.

Welcome to the States. Sorry about your injury; how was Claire’s first experience as a course volunteer at an American ultra?
