  • Hello crafty friends! I'm sharing a recent purchase of a Bira Sunlit MINI Die Cutting and Embossing Machine. So what's it like? Does it actually do what it says? Check out this test run and see for yourself.
    This little unit is made of metal gears inside and is a petite size perfect for sitting on my desk for a quick die cut. The throat is 3" wide instead of the more common 2 1/2." This will work for a lot of my dies that are at that 3" width which seems pretty common.

      Since I bought this, I got a glass mat. Sticks in place super with that. Sometimes it sticks when I don’t want it too! Love this machine! I use it every time I craft. It’s super handy. You’ll love it!

      I am really pleased with it and have almost worn my plates out at this point. Fortunately they do sell new plates. I don't think you'll be unhappy if you pick it up. It's so small and handy on the desk as well as ideal for portability. Thanks for watching! Janet

    I also have the Tim Holtz one. It is my favorite tool in my craft room. The plates will eventually warp but if you rotate them and flip them they will flatten out for longer life. It would be nice having that extra 1/2”.

    I have the little guy. I'm saving for the bigger 6 inch Bira. They have 9 inch ones too. This device is different. They have a dial on the side. To equal out the pressure so it cuts evenly all the time. That's why I want it. It's 90 for the 6 inch. And think it's 130 for the 9 inch. I can't wait

      That’s interesting. I honestly use this guy every time I craft. It’s so handy. Not sure I’d like a bigger one. My larger machine is at the ready but having this small guy on my table is a time saver and the small size means it takes little room and is easy to pick up. So much fits in the 3” throat. It’s surprising!

    Thank you for this video. This was the first recent video on die cutting machines I've found. All the others are from years ago. I've been debating for a few years about getting a die cutting machine. I make cards but just use washi tape and stickers to decorate them. Since I'm blind it's easier to do it that way. I thought die cutting could add some dimension to my cards. I was looking at the Sizzix Sidekick but the opening is only 2.5". I just found the Bira Craft on Walmart's website. I like the 3" size for dies. My cards are usually 4.25" by 5.5" so the small size is perfect.

      I’m so glad this helped you. I’ve been enjoying mine a lot. You are amazing to make cards when you are blind. I’m so impressed that you’re doing something that many sighted people claim they can’t do! Yes, dies will add more dimension for sure. The 3” size is ideal in my opinion. So much will fit through it. Best of luck in your creative work!! Janet

      @@SugarShineDesigns Thank you for your reply. I was thinking I coould use different colors of paper and do a layered look. Also today I thought how fun it might be to use wrapping paper that has a design and die cut it. I was born visually impaired and could see quite well until I was 22 so I know what things look like. I'm now able to visualize what something might look like. I'm not able to use paints and stamps and I can't make them as fancy as I wish but I still think people appreciate what I do give them.

      You are truly inspiring! I am sure that people who get a card from you treasures them. Very special! I have a friend who lost his sight around 25 in a car accident. He says he’s fortunate to have seen as long as he did because he can also visualize things. I admire your tenacity and desire to create art. Very awesome. 👏 want to also say that wrapping paper can make great backgrounds. Great ideas.

    I have the Tim Holtz one used a coupon. I never use the suction cup. If you want the suction cup spray a little water it will stick better.

      I looked at that one. It's a great machine but it's a 2 1/2" vs. 3" throat. Do you find the 2 1/2" is too small or is it ok? I just took a critical eye at my dies and noticed that 3" opened a lot more possibilites than the 2 1/2" option for me. Given the price and the fact that the gears are metal, I thought it was a small risk to try an unknown brand (at least unknown to me). I don't know if I'll continue to try to use a glass mat or not with it. Time willl tell as I use it more. I'll be posting in about a month with an update in the comments on how it's going, how the plates are doing and so forth. Thanks for watching and commenting Babs! Janet

    Thank you for your making this video! I was looking at a smaller machine too and was debating on purchasing either the Bira or Sidekick. I'm more familiar w/Sizzix because I have the Big Shot but like the Bira because of the larger opening. Well I've made my decision based on your video Bira it is. I have lots of dies too but still like collecting so I'm going to purchase the starter kit :) thanks again

    Hello! I am considering getting this tool. I have these plastic cutting die stencils to make earrings with. Do you think they will work with this product?

    • @SugarShineDesigns
      @SugarShineDesigns  3 года назад +1

      I can’t say 100% since I’ve not cut plastic. If the die stencil maker says that a pressure cutting die cutter like a Sizzix big shot works, this should work too. You probably should confirm with the maker of the die stencils to confirm what kind of machine works. Otherwise, you can order and return this from Amazon if it doesn’t work.

    What size dies do you use, paper

    • @SugarShineDesigns
      @SugarShineDesigns  Год назад

      I have this in the video but I think it’s a 3” mouth which means you can use anything up to that size. I find that 80% of the time, my dies fit in it. Won’t work for most card sized background dies like rectangles because they are bigger. Most paper piecing dies fit fine. Hope that helps.
