      **Spoilers***
      I am surprised by a lot of the ranking, probably mostly in game packs and expansions. It’s so fascinating to see what people most like!
      Spa day had updates which I think made it better with the manicures and pedicures, yoga classes etc. the only thing is that aspirations were glitched out, not sure if it got fixed.
      My Wedding Stories I thought would rank much lower seeming as though it doesn’t work and essentially ruined weddings! I guess the beautiful world and cas/build buy was strong. But this pack was probably the most disappointing and controversial release for me.
      Get Famous is one of my faves so that’s surprising, I agree the world wasn’t ideal and oddly didn’t seem to suit the game graphics. I am shocked it ranked below Get Together.
      Island Living gameplay was bland,I would only buy for the world, build/buy and cas.
      Eco Lifestyle is such a good pack imo! I would have thought it ranked higher.
      Snowy escape being ranked so high shocked me too! It seemed very niche to me, so I am confused 🤣
      Really glad to see seasons and cottage living up high, I think those are well deserving!
      Great video James. And thanks everyone for voting! Xx

    • @TheGracefulChariot
      @TheGracefulChariot 2 года назад +14

      @@deligracy Yes I was surprised by how high Snow Escape was too! A lot of the build/buy mode is somewhat niche (though admittedly there are some amazing pieces, like the kitchen set and the simple modern windows) and the gameplay absolutely needed something more imo. The CAS and the world are beautiful though. I wonder if people rated it a little higher since we got platforms as a free update with Snowy Escape? Or because that's when the sims team really started working with creators to build lots? Thinking about it, Snowy Escape was a weirdly impactful release - even though they weren't features that exclusively came with the pack, platforms and working with creators on packs really changed the game!

      @@TheGracefulChariot I bought Snowy Escape pretty early because of the build/buy, mostly buy. My last game obsession was Animal Crossing, and I was missing the Japanese style build items. ☺ I totally get what you mean about the gameplay, I've probably had a Sim ski like once, but I do think Japanese aesthetics are popular. And personally I love the snowy mountain world, my parents just moved to the mountains in real life, and I've never seen anything as pretty.

    • @ILuvAyeAye
      @ILuvAyeAye Год назад +10

      I'm shocked that Eco Lifestyle rated low on gameplay specifically, I expected not everyone to love the build/buy (not everyone is looking to live in a shipping container?) but I love the gameplay. But it's occurring to me that if you're not specifically playing Eco Lifestyle, the gameplay that's the most in your face is forgetting to vote on NAPs and suddenly getting your power shut off, or having to deal with broken community lots because your Sims are stealing your benches.
      I love replaying Eco Lifestyle, maybe second only to Cottage Living. But NAPs can definitely be annoying.

    A toggle for turning off the StrangerVille Infection would've made the game pack even better. I love the uniqueness and how the Build Mode stylistically gels with Get to Work (which were reasons I got StrangerVille on release), but I haven't touched it since I played the story because I would've preferred to play in a not-infected StrangerVille like, 99.99% of the time.

    • @JamesTurnerYT
      @JamesTurnerYT  2 года назад +569

      Yeah, I think overall, Sims 4 packs could use more toggle switches. A lot of the stuff they add is just always on and I don't always want to use everything like that

    • @anarchicbean5888
      @anarchicbean5888 2 года назад +49

      I agree, I would have bought it if it weren’t for the lack of toggle. I still miss sims 3 toggles to this day. I actually had the supernatural pack because I knew I could turn off individually the existence of occult sims. I never bought werewolves and vampires because i don’t want them in my game all the time, but I would absolutely buy them for their build mode more than anything and for the occasional gameplay. More toggles needed, give me back the age span sliders from sims 3, hoping EA goes back to these ideas for sims 5

Or even slashing the amount of 0's that were voted on so it represents the bell curve trend we've seen ?

    • @meridellwriter
      @meridellwriter 2 года назад +3

      @@baigles2012 And I really hope that they take advantage of this free market research for future DLC for Sims 4 and for Sims 5. For me personally, the percentage of people who own each DLC is especially telling. I actually ran some stats about the stats here. I averaged the percentage of people who own packs in each of the four categories (Expansion Pack, Game Pack, Stuff Pack, and Kit) just for giggles. The average ownership rate for kits is only 35.5%. Remove Desert Luxe from the equation (given the probability that most of the people who have it got it when it was free) and that drops to 31.9%. The average rates for both Game Packs and Stuff Packs are in the low-60s (63.9% and 61.4%, respectively), while the average ownership rate for Expansions is 81.74%. No Expansion Pack is owned by less than half of surveyed Sims 4 players. Personally, the conclusion that I draw from this is that Sims players are far more likely to pay for more expensive but more expansive DLCs than for watered-down cheap garbage. Someone posted above about how the total cost of all this DLC at full-price is $870, so honestly in the future I personally would far prefer to see fewer but larger DLCs, and I think this data suggests that I'm probably not alone in that sentiment.
      I also would like to point out that, if we again exclude Desert Luxe, no kit was owned more than even the least-owned Stuff Pack or Expansion Pack. There were three Game Packs mixed in with those other kits, and one of them was Batuu (which personally I feel should have probably been a separate spin-off game like Sims Castaway Stories was for Sims 2, with maybe some of the build/buy and CAS stuff added either as a free update for the base game or unlocked by purchasing the spin-off game), one was My Wedding Stories (a hot buggy mess), and one was Werewolves (which okay, not everybody goes in for occults, but I personally think that one should rank higher given that it actually works and fits within the Sims franchise).

Make a club that’s Teens Only and add a few Teens to it. Got a large family? Make a couple Clubs to include each family member and start a gathering. Got a single Sim that’s looking for love? Make a Singles Only club, and make desirable traits a requirement to join the club. Want some extra spice in your game? Make a woohoo club that gathers at lounges, bars, or nightclubs. Want some chaos? Make a Werewolf/Vampire fight club. Clubs are so utilitarian, that just about the only limit is your own imagination. Not just that, but the world is ABSOLUTELY beautiful. There’s even some nice, albeit very simple, lore behind Bernard and Mimsy (the ghosts from The Chalet) My biggest gripe about the pack is that some of the townies are kinda boring, but I think that’s mainly cuz it’s such an early pack.

    As a new player, I truly appreciate the effort and research that was put into this! So many of these are based on personal preferences, which is logical since everyone has their own gameplay style and interests. But seeing the numbers with it of how many people actually own the packs they're rating really helps. It shows which packs people have spent (or are willing to spend) money on, and which were a mistake to buy.

      As much as I'd love that, I think the community would immediately lash out and see it as them "double dipping" since City Living's selling point is the apartment building gameplay - there were already people complaining about this when we got Ecolifestyle. I remember when they did that survey with concepts the community would like to see and they pitched the Brazilian coastal city world and even Sims YT'ers were like "oh no, I'm not voting for that, we already have Sulani" when the world they pitched would actually be more akin to San Myshuno with beaches....

    I am more and more convinced, this is a home builders game and not a players game. Dream home decorator! I would be so bored by a pack just about home renovation/decoration. As a player, not a builder….I love building community lots with playing purpose, so I LOVE bowling night. I used Bowling Night and movie night to make a (not rabbit hole) theater/bowling multifunctional community lot. Just need to get University so I can update it with a little arcade space. It’s great for sim dates, for a sims family night out, and for sims just getting together with other sims. Getting Sims to dine together is a nightmare in general, but I find I have loads of fun taking them out for bowling or a movie. Or honestly to the gym. I use the climbing wall all the time, which is more than I can say for most of the build/buy stuff. The gym is a great place to meet other sims. So is the bowling alley/movie theater.
    Pastel pop is my favorite B/B kit cause it actually is great for teen/kid bedrooms and I actually LOVE the pet stuff pack for the lower maintenance small animals. Seperating the pet packs was dirty on EA’s part but I got Cats&Dogs, Pet Stuff, and Parenthood in an EA bundle at a discount so not fazed…felt like I got a good deal. But sometimes I want my single sims to have a pet that’s not a full on cat or dog and the rodents are great fun. I actually have prob played with them more than cats and dogs actually. Not a builder, so the build/buy isn’t make or break for me.

Even though it can get pretty tiring sometimes and I have to take a break from time to time, which is totally normal as the gameplay and world are still the same and now I have my own school stuff to do so I don't want to spend all of my free time in university with my sims too 😂 but after my every little break I always find it interesting again and having so many different degrees holds my interest well and gives me an illusion of the university gameplay being different everytime I do it with another new sim with a different degree, different personality and different hopes and dreams for their future 😄

      @@erikoinenuori I agree completely! I take a break too because I play on long and it just happens. Plus redesigning dorms (and commons) every few generations keeps everything fresh too. Glad to see fellow University enjoyers 😭❤️

    i feel like get to work isn’t ranked low because it’s bad but because so many newer packs have come out with the same active job feature or a similar feature that you pay for in get to work but those packs also have a bunch of other stuff and actually good CAS and build mode items

    The amount of enjoyment this video brought me is genuinely embarrassing. I’d love to see more stats videos on literally anything sims related. Like gameplay styles. I was pleasantly surprised how high strangerville ranked. I absolutely love that pack. I’ve played the story at least 10 times, love building in the world with all the debug cactuses, and I love doing apocalypse challenges and builds so I could not live without it. Also the sims 2 strangetown nostalgia.

    Thank you for this video! I kept following influencers advice and got packs that didn’t interest me whatsoever, I feel like it really is a matter of taste and colors but doing an actual poll with the community is much more reliable when it comes to understanding if the packs are actually worth it

    This was really interesting and slightly surprising. The King (Seasons) is dead, long live the King (Cottage Living).
    It was fun to fill in. Not being able to caveat my ranking (that I was marking Dine Out gameplay down due to it being broken), made me take much longer to fill out the survey. It helped me realise how much I do love Dream Home Decorator.
    The ownership percentage was really facinating. I knew that occult packs were less popular, but it was still a bit surprising.
    I wonder if this was filled in by Simmers of other YT/Twitch communities where the results would differ.
    RIP Batuu.

    One thing that kind of surprised me was how highly the build mode for Dream Home Decorator was rated - I agree that a lot of the objects are pretty but for me they just don't add that much personality to a space like Parenthood or High School Years do. Also I really loved seeing the distribution of voting - super interesting! Great job James and thanks to everyone who participated 💜

      I felt the dream home decorator objects were close to scandinavian/nordic style and that's why I like it so much, there is no other scandinavian stuff in the game so it being able to make homes that look like the houses around me was nice.

    I love City Living so much. Something about the Spice Festival is just so great, even if other packs have festivals now. I think City Living offers one of the most unique Sims experiences, so I'm glad to see it in the top 5 (and the top 3 when only accounting for those who own the pack!).

      Its useful for decision making but I wouldn’t call this a buyers guide really. I think because of the percentages of people that have packs and things there’s a few odd placements here and some recency bias. I did a poll on the forums if people liked snowy escape, city, country or island living the best and literally no one voted snowy escape yet here it’s 4th top. Get together is much more loved than snowy escape too usually. And Dream home decorator never gets talked about!

    What an amazing research, James. Such a nice content. I think it's nice to see how the older packs are badly rated, and for me, this really means that The Sims 4 franchise needs to refresh its older packs and invest innew ones who are trully connected to the present and the tendencies. It was also really nice too see how most of the packs don't have a high gamplay rate. Do gamers really like to play the sims or to customize their houses and outfits? It seems like that the main reasons why we keep on buying from EA are CAS and Build modes. Ah. And I missed one chart last with all the packs rated together.
