    Sata connectors are rated for 54 Watts Max and Nvidia rates TDP in the 1080 Ti as 250 Watts max (which I know is not necessarily the power being consumed) but as the GPU can pull up to 150 Watts from 6 Pin connector or it can draw from Pcie riser as well in any combination depending on usage, OS, app etc why risk so much on a premolded Sata connector instead of a proper 6 pin? As an electrician, I commend you for grounding your mobo, and additional equipment ground into the case would be awesome as well, thank you for a great detailed clearly explained video.

The problem is definitely a BIOS setting. I do not have several years to try all of the variations by trial and error. Can you tell us what works on your board specficially, please?

    • @Jobegamers
      @Jobegamers  6 лет назад

      Thanks Jayson! You can use this for 7 GPU mining you will just space your GPU's closer together, if you are predrilling holes to secure the GPU's to the frame just space them closer together and add a 7th. I left plenty of space in this rig for the GPU's to breath and they can certainly be spaced closer together. Good luck!

    great vid really well explained for beginners like myself starting out, bit of noob question how long will it be before 1080ti become old and useless nonprofitable to mine, like when 1090ti or 1100ti's come out , i am half afraid start buying all the hardware knowing my luck i would accumulate all gpu's then setup by that stage newer gpu's be out 1100ti ?

    • @Jobegamers
      @Jobegamers  6 лет назад

      Thanks Daniel. That is a great question, I have been reading that the new GPU's may be coming out in late July or August. These new cards will surely be more beefy as described in the link below. One thing to consider is that when they are released, the current generation of GPU's will hopefully be cheaper but should still be good for mining. If anything, if you are wanting to start mining now, I would suggest just getting one or two cards and then in August consider buying some of the next gen cards that come out.

    Hello I've watched the video it's very useful thanks a lot. i hate to question i will appreciat if you answer them. Q1: why did you use Dual power supply connector ? i can connect one PSU to motherboard and 2 or 3 GPU and other one directly to PGU !
    Q2: When you applied USB Raiser at the bottom of them where the connected to GPU there is sponge base should i removed dose the heat will affect them?
    and final note dose placing PSU upright where the fan side faces GPU affecting cooling for PSU and GPU in this case we can put FANS thanks a lot.

    • @Jobegamers
      @Jobegamers  6 лет назад +1

      I used the dual PSU connector for ease of use, you can manually short the PW pins on the secondary PSU if needed. The foam at the bottom of the PCI Risers if fine to leave. It is made of a material that is insulated so will not get to hot, over time they may peel off so you can safely remove them if you want. The foam is there to protect against shorting from beneath the board but if it is suspended there should be no worries. I have had no issues with heat from the PSU's going up to the PSU's but I do have a fan on my miners. Thanks!

      Hey Groc thanks! The MSI Aero has been running hotter than the other cards (around 80-82 without external fan)but I stuck a fan next to the rig and its running in the high 70s now. As far as overclocking, I have had luck overclocking without issue since they are all 1080's but I have not pushed the OC past +75 core,+600 memory so there may be issues when trying to get max performance but so far I have had no issues :D

    Thanks for this video. I saw you put a Celeron in it. Any reason? Would a stronger CPU help with the mining?

    • @Jobegamers
      @Jobegamers  6 лет назад +1

      Hey Paul. The reason I used a Celeron is because it is not only cheap but for the mining I am doing with this rig a more powerful CPU would not make a difference. All of the processing is offloaded onto the GPU's so unless you are wanting to also do CPU mining along with the GPU's, you don't need a beefy CPU. For example, on this mining rig I get an average of 700-750 sol/s for Zcash per card (total between all 6 cards is about 4.3-4.5 kSol/s) and at home I also have a 1080 Ti on my personal computer, this computer at home has an Intel i7-5820k and when mining I still only get around 700-750 sol/s. I have noticed no difference in mining performance when using a more powerful base CPU.

    • @psperneac
      @psperneac 6 лет назад

      Cool, thanks. I was more concerned about the CPU not being able to feed the cards the data fast enough; but if that's not the case, Celeron it is!

    Isn't two 1000 watt power supplies overkill for only 6 cards? I would think one 1200 watt unit, and for sure a single 1500 watt unit would handle this load. Why did you chose this configuration? Great video as was part 1 in this series.

    • @Jobegamers
      @Jobegamers  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks David. Yeah 2 1000 watt psus is probably a bit of an overkill ;D when I ordered the psus (around late december, early january) i got the 1000ws in this video for 109 each! The 1200+ psus were all out of stock and priced at 200+ so I got them more out of them being such a deal than anything else. I also decided to go with 1080 tis for this build and wasn't 100% on their power consumption. Ive read anywhere from 200-260 watt per card on max load. With 80 Gold psus that leaves a bit of breathing room. Down the road I may replace one of the 1000w psus with a lower wattage psu and use one of the 1000w psus for another build :D

    Hi Jobe and thank your for your videos mate, appreciate the help :)
    Also, wanted to ask you, because i'm just building my own first rig and I'm suffering a bit of paranoia reading things about powering rigs and such... ¿Do you think it's really safe to use the SATA powering into risers? I believe by this video that you're powering 3 risers x 1 SATA cable and shocked me tbh. I'm gonna use also 1080 ti's x 6 in a corsair 1600, so not much connectors left except the SATA ones to power the risers.
    Also too... it's supposed those cards to use 150/180W when underpowered (it's what I do plan) so maybe 2x 8 pin can power 1xgpu+1x riser (180+75< 300W that those 2x8 pin are supposed to handle). Thank you in advance if you can give me your opinion!

    • @Jobegamers
      @Jobegamers  6 лет назад

      It all really depends on the PSU you are using, if your PSU has multiple rails it can be dangerous to use sata to power risers because of possible loops. The PSU's I use all have a single power rail and so share a common ground inside the PSU. If you are worried you can always power them using other means. Research your PSU you are going to use and see what other miners are doing with it for peace of mind :D good luck!

    super cool videos !!how many risers can you plug on a sata cable ??? :O i thought it was only 1 ! (max 75 watts per riser) tyvm !

    • @gangstahanna
      @gangstahanna 3 года назад +1

      NOONE!! Riser taking 75W and SATA only provides 54W !! NEVER User SATA or any Adapter, throw them away! You can use Molex (156W) for 1 Riser or PCIe (288W) for 2 Risers.
      Never use SATA, the wire is going to burn because it takes more watt then it can provide and then u are going to burn the whole RIG or More down.
      Take this advice if you planing to build a RIG

    • @gangstahanna
      @gangstahanna 3 года назад +1

      And never buy risers with SATA connector. Search for the new Versions with molex and PCIe connector so u can choose how you want to power it

    • @Jobegamers
      @Jobegamers  6 лет назад +1

      I only tried to put 3 1080 Ti's on one 1000W PSU but I image you could perhaps put 4. I've read that the 1080 Ti's run around 200-250 Watt each at max but I have not tested this. You should be able to run 6 or more 1070's off of a single 1000W PSU no problem.

    • @Jobegamers
      @Jobegamers  6 лет назад

      Start by removing all but one GPU, plug into it and confirm you have video. Once you have one GPU up with video, you can add your other GPU's. You may also want to try plugging directly into the motherboards video and use integrated video. You may have to enable this in the BIOS/UEFI. Are you able to boot the computer without a GPU with monitor plugged into the motherboard?

      Nice, honestly M.2 is far superior to SATA so if you want to use an M.2 SSD power to you. I didn't in this build for a budget, at the time of the build the M.2 SSD's were quite a bit more than SATA SSDs. All my home personal computer builds have M.2 NVme SSD's in them and I love em!

      Crazy as it sounds you might try bumping your virtual memory (page file) to 64GB. If that doesn't work, try to update your motherboard BIOS. Then in your BIOS look for an option to enable 4G. What kind of motherboard do you have? What is your PSU wattage rated for?

    The EVGA graphics card is not recognized in Device Manager, under Display Adapters
    I have three graphics cards installed on the motherboard including graphics card (EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW2), two Asus Strix GTX 1080 & one (EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW2)
    I have exchanged slots and cables without any success only the two Asus Strix cards appear
    I have even tried to connect it alone to the main graphics card slot (PCI bus 1) alone without any success.
    I have also updated the Motherboard Bios and the Graphics card driver to the newest driver 391.35

      Depending on what you mine you might be able to get away with it. If you plug in your cards at whattomine.com it will show you the average power usage for your cards for each algorithm. When in doubt you can always try to plug 5 of your GPU's in and see if its stable, if so try plugging in the other card. Good luck!

      6x 1080ti use up to 2000 watt on Equihash (ZEC, ZEN, ZCL) and make up to 4800 sol/s
      so you better use at least 1000watt power supply on every 3x1080ti
      1200watt for 3x1080ti is the best choice if you would like to get the most of mining.

    • @Jobegamers
      @Jobegamers  6 лет назад

      Ahhh gotcha Andzej, sorry about that! No you just need to connect one CPU power cable from the primary power supply to the motherboard. The only cable you need to daisy chain between the power supplies is the 24 PIN power cable, as this cable has the on/off switch for the power supply itself. Does that make sense? Let me know if you still have questions and if needed I can draw up a visual illustration to help you out. Thanks!

      the GPU fans will come on if needed, they don't run at all times. Are the GPU lights lit up? What do you have your monitor plugged into to view the screen? Are you able to get video at all? What kind of keyboard/mouse are you using, usb or ps2 connection?

      Yeah that board should def be able to handle 2 GPU's imo. Feel like its a bad riser. You able to return the riser you got or RMA it? You know the other thing you can try to test that riser would be if you have some random PCI card like a wifi adapter or a serial card or something you can plug into that PCI riser to see if it comes up or not. If something like that doesn't work on the riser then I would say its the riser thats faulty.

      Hey Milan, on this rig I mine Zcash. I have a video on how to setup to mine zcash, I am doing everything exactly like in that video (using local wallet, using nanopool, etc) the only difference is that instead of using EWBF as my mining program, I use dstm's Zcash miner (bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2021765.0). With the 6 1080 Ti's I average 4.2-4.5 kSol/s. Current pricing for Zcash that is around 1100-1200 a month but when not in a cyrptocurrency dip it was averaging 1400-1600 a month.

It peeks ever so often into the 40s and 50s. All crytpo is down in price currently so I'm interested to see how nicehash performs when prices go back up.

    Maybe too late or not to comment, because this video is old, but really nice DiY tutorial. But I want to advice something, Grounding Loop MUST be AVOIDED. At minute 8:15 you make a huge mistake. Most common PC Towers dont ground motherboard to chassis. The grounding is done over the PSU earth pin. Grounding motherboard to chassis is not need. If you screw the PSU to the alumium rig then you're grounding RIG over PSU. The PC enclosures are RFI and EMI protections. By example: If you have a windowed tower, there is EMI going in and out of the PC Case.

    I just fast forward your video and was surprised when you were installing CPU
    that's surprising how people do not understand what they are doing and still try to teach others
    first of all you dont remove the cover from motherbord's CPU socket, it comes off by itself when you instal the CPU and closing the CPU holder. By removing it manually you are risking droping it and bend pins or droping something inside the socket.
    second of all you do not apply thermal compound on a brand new heatsink, because there is preapplied thermal paste on it !
    third of all dont press the fasteners with a screwdrivier, the screwdrivers might slip off and you will damage your mobo, when you press them do not turn them, the are in the position when they just go in(from factory) and to remove the fan you need turn them conterclockwise...
    wow man that's like 3 minutes of video.... I am scared what you are going to do next
