    When I first started playing guitar, my teacher wasn't very good at guitar, and I didn't know enough to know he wasn't good. He taught me pentatonic shapes, and then basically just tabbed songs out for me.
    However, he forced me to practice a good tremolo, and then translated that to great alternate picking. Starting with those two techniques made it so much easier for me to learn to play anything, and the theory knowledge and other techniques came along later.

    For people trying to learn basic improv. (I know this probably isn't the channel for this... whatever)... lol.
    Come up with 5 or so different noodles. Like.... lead types. How the notes are moved around. You should know how to know what key you're in.
    Then when you're doing improv you can have a couple of things to fall back on while you think of something else.
    P.S. Legato is S tier. Always.

    I would put open chords and triads above barre chords because when your playing with a bassist or keyboard player you don’t always need the low notes, also, knowing open chords makes learning triads up the neck easier.
    But I would put palm muting in A or S tier because I use that in most styles. Playing Chet Atkins songs, playing country, funk, you’ll need palm muting in all that

    Nah Pinch Harmonics are pretty much all you need pinch early and pinch often and when in doubt pinch it out. Seriously though pretty much agree but the most important thing is to keep it fun, I’m not saying that you shouldn’t stretch your abilities to grow but if you are really struggling with something and have worked on it for most of your practice time in a given day, and you just aren’t getting it , stop go learn a new riff or jam on some familiar stuff to boost your confidence before you put the guitar down for the day. I promise you’ll be surprised how much easier the thing that was kicking your ass yesterday is to do twenty four hours later. Some people say it’s neural plasticity that your brain uses to learn something and even help muscle memory when in fact you’re not actually physically trying to perform whatever task it is guitar for instance. Whatever it is there’s something to it .

  • @Thomas-nz4si
    @Thomas-nz4si Год назад +1

    Open chords are actually more useful than barre chords for clean chord extensions. Like I can seamlessly add 7th, 9ths, 11ths, 4ths, etc., to basically any open chord without giving up anything, however adding notes to most barre chords requires a completely different finger position than what you're typically using for a barre chord. Like going from a Bm to a Bm9 is not at all seamless unless you plan ahead, whereas you can transition from a C to a Cmaj7, Cmaj9, Cadd4, Csus2, all very easily. You can also easily incorporate different techniques into open chords, like hammer on's and slides lend themselves to open chord playing.
    With open chords it feels as though you can fully express a chord in any niche interesting way, incorporating nearly limitless color, but with barre chords you only really have a handful of seamless options available without changing your finger position, which will be audible at basically every level of play from beginner to expert.
    I've been playing guitar for about 10 years at this point, I would say I'm happy with my ability, and I easily use open chords more than barre chords. I also use what would be considered "complex chords" more than barre chords, because typically you can use extensions similarly on complex chords.
    If I didn't put as much focus on open chords as I did, I genuinely don't think I would be as good as I am.

That fact alone makes it miles more dynamic than a piano. I don't even feel I need any more to refute that. I mean, just the ability to use bending completely wrecks piano. How are you going to put VIBRATO. One of the most emotional, inspiring and such unique technique that defines guitarist. BELOW BENDING and on B TIER?!??….vibrato literally adds soul to music and not just “color” it’s part of the entree. Like I can bet you that one of your favorite solos probably has vibrato in it.
    Also alternate picking at B?!?! Dude you’re off your rocker if that’s the case. Learning how to play alternate pick will literally push you past the realm of intermediate and beginner as using a technique like alt picking can help you not only play faster but also do runs that require lots of energy plus it sounds good and is not something that is easy. Masters of alt picking are people like Stevie Ray, John Pettruci, Eric Johnson I can go on.
