I love those chats. More important than the alcohol thing (I never was an excessive drinker) I found the words you said about the people around you parting ways, lifes that changed and so on. I think especially when you don’t want or can’t get kids this is a very important thing and time in life. I would be very interested to hear more of your opinion on this. And what belongs to the drinking: Congratulations, not the worst decision! PS: I love the upright format! Quite an interesting decision too!
Thanks soooooo much for sharing this. Been great watching your journey all these years not only as a youtube personality but as a person. Super motivational and inspiring! Great video Robin ❤️ Also… you’re gay?!?!?! 🫢🤯😜
Well done, Robin, and welcome to the authenticity club. You're now, yourself 100%, I've been clean of drink, crack and smack for 1 year, 4 months and 13 days. Being clean and sober has SO MANY great knock-on effects. Your skin should be healthier and even better with the right diet as well as working out. But the main blessing? The sense of being completely in control. You face and endure everything, good or bad, with your own POWER. Whatever your or anyone's experience I wish you all great happiness in being yourself but with a sharper clarity. Peace and love, David
Approximately 2.5 years sober. Best decision I ever made. Literally every facet of my life has improved, no downsides to it. Very hard to begin with there’s no denying it it. But stick with it and you realise that it’s an illusion thinking that alcohol gives you something. It actually detracts from your life. Only regret is I didn’t do it sooner.
Same here, I quit 6 months ago and what you say is correct. There are no benefits to drinking, all an illusion. I also regret I didn't catchup on this mindset earlier (I'm 32). I would have quit in my early 20s if I could go back in time.
I’m 24, and I had been drinking alone, every night, for about 7 months straight. And up to three weeks ago I read Allen Carr’s “Easy Way to Quit Drinking” and it changed me forever. When I closed that book I knew I was never going back to drinking.
Congratulations! Sober 3.5 years myself. On a recent trip back to England, I was looked at like an oddity when I said I didn’t drink. The U.S is far more accepting. Keep up the good work. Love your reviews❣️
I'm 23 and I never drink. My mother was an alcoholic so I just decided it wasn't for me. People act like you're odd for not doing, but really it's just preference.
Great video Robin, drinking is so integrated into society that we don’t even realize how it’s negatively affecting us. I really believe alcohol will eventually be looked at like cigarettes are looked at now.
I don't think so. Because alcohol really changes you and gives a lot of people fun while cigarettes don't make you intoxicated, just 10 chill minutes as an companion to your drink.
Thank you for sharing. I have been sober for 17 years and when I was drinking it brought me nothing but trouble. When I stopped my life got better. I realized my ON/OFF switch was broken. Good for you!
I find that I am much in a similar mindset. There is a happiness that I’ve found which is clearer than before. I never had an issue with alcohol, but somewhere along the line, it just felt inauthentic for me. So I just placed that to the side. Yet weirdly I am happier and don’t really miss it. Thank you for your honesty Robin. It is refreshing and clearly not the norm today online. I appreciate you.
you uploaded this at a *more than appropriate* time in my life, I’ve grown up learning how to do and take care of my hair from you and I’m at the point in my journey that I’m nearly ready to fully commit to the idea of getting sober, it’s such an important conversation to be had and I’m glad you’re being open about it. Thank you ♥️🖤
Good for you Robin! As dude who’s just never been in to drinking it’s always enjoyable to hear someone else share their perspective when they stop drinking, especially on the social dynamic. If people want to drink, cool for them, but it’s great have admirable voices speak about the idea that you don’t actually have to. Thanks!
Been loving your hair styling videos. I would never have guessed you were sober, and lo and behold on a night when maintaining my own sobriety feels especially tough for some reason, this pops up in my recommendations. Thank you for sharing this with us -- you don't know how helpful and inspiring it is to see people you admire going on the same journey.
This kind of videos and honesty and just being yourself makes you in my list of favorite RUclipsrs since I found you in 2017 really! I also quitted drinking 2.5 years ago and I can only confirm what you are saying! Quite a similar experience tbh
Hi Robin, I really like the fact that you decided to talk about this since so few people do. For me it is very fascinating how people react when you tell them that you’re not drinking alcohol, like you’re not fun. I also go out and dance the night away and not feel the need to drink, however I find it hard when people sort of socially reject you. How did you deal with this? You mentioned that you felt that some distance grew between you and your closest friends… How did your social life evolve? Thank you so much for all the work you put in and wish you all the best. ❤
Good job Rob, same for me, almost 2 years without alcohol. But i still drink beer 0.0% and Tanqueray 0.0% vol. I live in Spain and here there is a very huge choice of no alcoholic drinks without sugar.
Good on you . I drank alcohol for years, and it became a problem for me. I have been sober for seven years now. I feel so much better , and I'm in my sixties in age. You don't need it.
This video really helped me and inspired me to give up the Negronis. I’m now 106 days without booze and feel amazing. Thanks Robin. Edit: still going strong however I now spend the money I’ve saved on fragrances !!! How to stop that Robyn lol 😂
Non-alcoholic options keep getting better, and with the whole “sober curious” movement going on, I think it’d be really cool to see a video about some of your favorites. I haven’t found a NA wine that I enjoy yet, but the beers have been excellent. Proud of you none the less!
Interesting stuff. I stopped smoking 18 months ago and one aspect I wasn’t expecting was how much of my own self identity revolved around smoking. I was a smoker and then I wasn’t. You just adjust and keep your eye on the prize. 👍🏻
Hi Robin, thanks so much for posting this. I’m a few months off 47 and I have always had a relationship with alcohol throughout my life but come July 30th 2021 was my last drink of sorts. As I’m from Melbourne Australia and we spent so long in lockdown I too started drinking exactly how your described gin whiskey wine whatever was going and I woke up one morning and said that’s it for a while. I’m so glad I’m feeling everything you explained but also the big one for me is I’m so less anxious, which I’m loving. When you said that you are an all or nothing sort of person, I’m the same as well and I know moderation is not my middle name. I have had about 6-8 glasses of red wine since I had my last drink and I have enjoyed every mouth full, no guzzling it down for that kick. I have never said I’m never drinking again but I do know I don’t want to ever go back to the way I was. Sorry for the essay. It’s not something I talk about much. I feel seen. Thanks x All the best to you
Great video 🙏 I drink far too much but it seems engraved into my day to day. Hard to stop due to friendship circles and habits. This is such a brilliant video to relate to, thank you
Thanks for this. The home drinking routine resonates and I’ve given that up and limit alcohol to specific social events, but I’m seriously considering giving up. This is really helpful. (On a far more superficial level - that shirt is brilliant. Where’s it from?)
Hi Robin, many years ago going through a very bad time I thought alcohol was the answer but how wrong was I it nearly ended life for me, had it not been for my parents stepping in I don't know if I would be here, I still like to have the odd drink now but I am in total control and enjoying life, I think you are such an inspiration to others and I applaud you, thank you
Congratulations Robin! I’m pleased you’ve found what works for you. Peoples relationship with alcohol is very complex. This is real food for thought… And as you say, it lasts as long as it lasts, just do what makes you feel happy!
This video gave me lots of vibes from 9/7 years ago, when you were sitting in front of the camera with a cup of coffee, and reviewed products/clothing. Just Robin chatting to the camera, love it. Ps: I like the hair!
I quite enjoyed your story and the reason you stopped drinking! It is always a good reminder to know that some people stop drinking just to feel better in general. Also side note I loved the vertical video. I’m on mobile mostly using Picture in Picture and the vertical video played really well.
Lovely Robin good on you. You're right it's so embedded in our every move culturally that when you start it's odd. Tbh Ive 15 years on you but I'm still Scot! I had 3 years off the grog and had so much more money to spend on fragrance and clothes it was great. It's good you've done the video really, people shouldn't be socially anxious about going out and just saying yeah, lime and soda please whatever. Enjoy it but be warned Edinburgh is as much of a party town as London!
Thank you so much For being so honest and open, you need to do more of this as i think it strikes a cord with people…It certainly did with me so thank you. ❤️
I drink very rarely, I can count on 1 hand how many tim I've been drunk. I'll have spirits for celebration. A rare beer when I fancy it and a few ciders if I'm out camping during the summer No major reason why, I'm just not a fan of alcohol really
I only have a glass of wine on special occassions as in birthdays, christmas, out for dinners etc.. Though most of the time, I don't feel like it.. Been 15 years now, and glass of red wine is only recent within the last 2 years
Great achievement Robin! I have tried to stop drinking a few times before, hopefully this time I'll cut it out completely. How's Edinburgh been treating you? I plan to go next month, any shops to look out for, not on the expensive side perhaps haha?
Balance is key. You can drink a bit, you can smoke a bit, and you can even do drugs responsibly. But hey, cheers if you can totally do without those things. They are not necessary, but they are fun tho.
We are of the same age Robin, and I've been a fan since the days when us Americans would comment on how you say push! (Deep cut.) I can say one thing which has changed is your skin. You looked a bit older than our age back in the day, but now even with increased camera quality you are looking much more vibrant and youthful. Cutting off drinking and getting off with multiple guys a night has really made a physical change to your look :). Keep it up Robin. Matt from Texas!
Congratulations!!! I have never been a drinker having been raised by alcoholics. I have had my share of drinking I may be easy but I’m not cheap 2 drinks max from top shelf It’s been 10 years??? Today if I feel I want a drink, I get spicy V8 (bloody Mary with no alcohol.
What’s the the difference between a Scottish wedding and an Irish funeral, one less drunk. I’m so sorry that’s really lame and completely inappropriate. 😜❤
Just a little chat. I hope you're all doing well. 💙

Robin, This was a very special video. I know you are a private person. You didn’t have to share, but you did. And that has made all of the difference.
Thanks soooooo much for sharing this. Been great watching your journey all these years not only as a youtube personality but as a person. Super motivational and inspiring! Great video Robin ❤️

Yes, good to know you have been sober. Love the videos and guides on yT and on your blog. Thumbs up from Pakistan. Power to u!

I'm 1 year sober today too! Woke up on the wrong side of the bed but I'm in the gym and trying to make it a good day. It's a big accomplishment 👏

Do you personally know Robin?
Congratulations! Sober 3.5 years myself. On a recent trip back to England, I was looked at like an oddity when I said I didn’t drink. The U.S is far more accepting. Keep up the good work. Love your reviews❣️
You're a classy man Robin. Very happy for you 💚
Thanks Naruto.

@@honestyisthegucci From a health perspective alcohol will likely be viewed as cigarettes are now.
Five and a half years for me, and I really resonated with what you said. Thanks for posting this.

You're so right about friends at 30, and the fork in the road..
I’ve seen a lot of videos like this but this one is seemingly the most honest, genuine and non condescending of them all. Thank you for sharing.
This kind of videos and honesty and just being yourself makes you in my list of favorite RUclipsrs since I found you in 2017 really!

I don't drink for six years. It's quite difficult in Poland, where vodka is a part of the culture. I lost some friends too..
You are hysterical....I could listen to you all day. and good job on the quitting. I am an all or nothing person as well! So I get it!!

Main side effect for me is the tiredness I get for 2 to 3 days after. Also lack of appetite and the lazyness which ends up meaning buying takeaways

Great lifestyle change for you, Robin!
I'm coming up on ten years. It's worth it. But remember, if you DO start again...or don't want to stop...NEVER drive drunk!
good for you.... i quit over 12 years ago, found i didnt need to drink to be a real me. your skin will thank u later!

Congrats! That’s an amazing accomplishment.

I drank my fair share of booze in college. But the older I get, the less I drink. Now it’s more of a drink every few months or so.
Goodness gracious me! What hair styling product(s) are in this glorious messy quiff??
Hi Robin, great content. Would you be so kind to share the name of the book that you read?
Of course. Popped it in the description.
