Stephen (Seamless) taught me how to use Vocodex, I told you about it, and now just a few days before you're livestreaming with him, you're teaching the world about it too. Crazy how things go so full circle, huh! Much love Valentin, I can tell that everyone will really benefit from this video. :D
Yeah, Never tell Virtual Riot any trade secrets unless you want the world to know.......He literally made a career off of exposing other producers secrets.
I have watched this video probably 20 times, every single time I do the example track you're using to show how to put together chords and stuff is so beautiful.
Damn I remember watching this when it came out. 'Gave me inspiration for my artist name. Good memories. This video never gets old. It's a classic and always will be.
Hey young man! As an old dog learning new tricks, please keep your tutorials coming! My 16 year young daughter turned me onto you a year ago, and I really like your music! Great collaboration with Mr. Bill on Thwek... you guys keep raising the bar, but I like that! You're gifted so keep up the good work!
Seriously Virtual Riot (screw Skrillex) your the king of dubstep when i listen to you it just makes my day so congratulations on making amazing dubstep :)
Major kudos to you man, everything you make is spectacular. I can't tell you enough about how much I listen to your songs, and yet you're still making a video like this to help all your fans. You're seriously the best producer...ever!
Everything you do is gold O.O I'm very curious as to how much headroom you use in your mixes and if you use JUST limiting and said Ozone features when you master. I hear talk about a lot of engineers using clipping to their advantage by putting hardware that can make the cruddy dirt (in a modrated amount) sound perfectly professional.
Virual Riot, u are awesome, thanks to a popular guy like u to give free tutorials and presets to beginner producers etc... Thanks alot, and keep up the good work. Peace.
Do you master with izoptope and then send off to a studio for final mastering? Do you do your own mastering on songs you release professionally or outsource it to a sound engineer? Curious about because I'm struggling to figure out the right way to get my tracks sounding balanced and professional. Thanks! Can't wait to catch you next time you come to Oregon BTW.
For your next studio time, could you show us how you put your tracks together? Like after the drop, how you combine all your sounds and it sounds so clean!?
Mostly, it's a lot of practice. Just keep trying and testing new things until you come out with something you like. Combine new things. If you're having trouble on anything you just need more practice. Don't let the genre or things people say you should go by stop you from creating.
Thankyou so much for making this! sometimes it's nice to just see how someone else would go about this system... I'd love to see a walkthrough of one of your more complextro tracks next time, perhaps experimental tracks like Troublemaker! :)
Thanks for the video(expecially mastering)...do you use only iZotope or some other plugin for the mastering? P.S. sorry for this question, but which program do you use for recording desktop?? thanks :D
Mr.Riot :D thanks for this video! its very cool and fun to lern how you make your art and using the right sounds for it... keep making awesome music ! :D
Nice work bro! I would like to learn next time from you something like how you creating melodies in complex electro style, or especially how to drop is builded, (hope you know what I mean) etc. Anyway, great tutorial, everything is really nice explained and easy to understand either, can't wait for next episode. Always doing it awesome, Keep it up :)
Really like your tutorials, they're really helpful, so good job! A thing i would like to see, is how you layer your melodies. Anyway, keep up the good work!
The first pluck used is part of the Complextro and Dubstep Vol 3 pack by Freaky Loops, a sample pack that I believe was partly designed by virtual riot himself, at least thats what I think seeing as he created the song for Complextro and Dubstep 2
It's just makes me really happy you're not just sticking with everything massive, or sticking with company/DAW specific products... The fact you're using IL Vocodex & sytrus in ableton makes me chuckle, & rather happy you're not grounding yourself to a name brand.
Thank you so much for this! i requested a mastering tutorial a while ago and you delivered well! it will be so much help to me! and the ending was hilarious, well done haha :')
Do you side chain your build ups to your drops? For instance, when you start rolling the 16th-32nd note kick drum or snare rhythms followed by white noise, risers, preview basses, etc; are you side chaining all of that because I really don't hear it in some of your tracks. Perhaps you could go over your side chaining in depth especially when it comes to your sub kick processing. It really gives your tracks that clean clarity without the mud. Your side chaining is already so clean and quick, normally that would cause harsh transient pops or something but you've managed to get around it completely. I'm using ableton and the ableton compressor has been my side chaining option. If you have any feedback it would be strongly appreciated.
Niceee. If it's possible can you like make a tutorial for the songs in your Sugar Rush EP (a bits of it at least). All of your tutorial have been very helpful for me and others for sure. Thankss man 👍
Hey that was really helpful.. the reverb cutting out as the chords hit, how you sound designed that growl with ableton effects, and your explanation of ozone was really good. I have a question.. when you sound design the growl, do you already have an idea of what effects you're going to use and the order, etc? or do you take it one step at a time? orrr maybe something in between? Thanks
Can you recommend proper (somewhat cheap) music equipment for a beginning producer? I noticed in I believe your first studio time you had what I'm assuming is an electronic keyboard that seemed really nice. Just some advice in general on equipment would be equally helpful.
You're a german? Right? So, kann ich doch deutsch schreiben... Egal. Ps. Machst tolle Electro-, Dubstep Musik! Mach weiter so!!!
Sehr geil! Vielleicht kannst du ja irgendwann wieder mal etwas von deinem Konservatorium zeigen! :) Wie ihr dort übt, aufnehmt und inwiefern du es zu deinem (privaten) Vorteil nutzt! :)
Hey vr, you have to do a video just about your wobbles/growls. Besides those your melodies are amazing but i want to put some cool bass into a track. Thanks
So what I don't understand, is I load up Massive and it looks like his.. but when I move the pitch (except for the sound pitching up and down --- not getting more detuned), I hear zero change compared to his patch.
Your university looks like heaven
