I always like how you do a review. It's done in a way anyone would look at something. I haven't seen a rollerball like that in decades, maybe they had some old parts laying around from the 90's and decided to get rid of them.
You mentioned a mod to get more than 10,000 contacts. 10,000 would have been ok 5 or more years ago but that won't cut it today. It reminds me of my first DMR radion, Baofeng DM-1801
I used to work in phone repair. That trackball was always the big failure point on Blackberry devices and it was definitely not an easy fix. You basically had to take the whole device apart to get at it and replace it. I’m stumped as to why someone would use it in a new device.
Rather than using Chirp to program this, I'm going to use Chip. The program continually gives me alerts/errors on screen, but it helps satisfy my need for companionship.
Hi! KD2WIW here, I have this radio, and I can’t seem to get it to work properly, my analog zone works great! But when I try any dmr zones it turns into a brick after I end my transmission, I know the code plug works because I can get in to the repeater and I know others can hear me but after I let go of the ptt the radio freezes ( buttons do not function and I sound ither) and I have to restart it
Thanks for sharing. I have not heard of that. I no longer have the radio (gave it to a viewer), so I cannot offer to test the codeplug. However, it is good information for others to see. If anyone has the same troubles, hopefully they could post.
Awesome. I haven't got the anytone yet, but would you elaborate on what makes the anytone the better radio, for people reading the comments/considering purchasing? Thank you in advance
Well the track ball is an odd choice. But when you start getting into software and interface problems I'm going to run away. I can think of 1 time a software update caused a problem on my AnyTone 878. I went back to the previous firmware, and there was a corrective firmware update the next day. I even requested a feature, I was contacted by AnyTone, and was emimented on the next update. For me almost all programming is done via computer. I can use the keypad, buy rarely do. If the computer-radio interface is problatamic, I'm out. The AnyTone 878 is not cheap, but it always works. It is always a balance between price and quality, and we all know that. Thank you for your reviews.
Thanks! I agree on your points . It's good to see this information. I'm Fairly interested to get my hands on one of those radios. I think my buddy has one I might be able to borrow. Have a good one
One thing I like is that Anytones are extremely customizable. Screens, buttons, colors. It was one of my 1st radios so I had to learn all about digital and their way of settings things up. You have channels, then zones, if you want to scan you have to set up a scan group, which must be selected on the channel. Then you have to go to the scan group and include the channels that will be in its group. You can also a MARS Mod. You can go to Bridgecom and download people's codeplug and see how they lay things out. Id be happy to send you mine, of course the DMR is all that would be of use.
You said in the video that the clip is on the battery. Ummm nope as per the beginning of the video it’s attached to the radio it’s self.. just saying… 73

Where can i take my amateurs radio test uk. I have had trouble finding a place online
AnyTone is the only path forward. Also, you should have 'Paid Promotion' enabled since Retevis sent you the radio for free to review/create a video.
Thanks.. I forgot, like you must have with ham radio prep. 73!
@@HAMRADIODUDE Can't say I didn't try and help.
Thank you for your help.. I appreciate it .
Should be corrected now.
Sheesh, Matt.
Definitely showed me to stay with AnyTone or their clones.

Can't be perfect. I did say at the beginning it was on the radio and showed it that way. I'm not sure why I said it was on the battery.
@@HAMRADIODUDE never said had to be perfect just saying is all!!
