  • This tip works for just about any brand or style of insulate spray foam in a can. Let's face it, even with their new "you can save it!" nozzles- this stuff is still a pain in the butt to reuse down the road- you often can't. THIS is the only method that I've tried that works time and time again AND is very easy to do- and all with stuff you probably already have on hand at home. A simple tip like this will save you almost $7.00 or $8.00 each time as it'll keep you from having to throw out barely used cans that you previously couldn't save. Trust me and try it- this tip works great! #sprayfoaminsulation #diyhacks #thrift #savingmoney #reuse

what a guy! thanks for the tip. I'm happy to hear a new book is in the works, I love the funky doodle of an underground coffin like sleep pod you did in a previous book: (Tiny Houses, Simple Shacks, Cozy Cottages, Ramshackle Retreats, Funky Forts: And Whatever the Heck Else We Could Squeeze in Here)
I haven't had the book for years and I still remember (or misremember) a wild looking hose intake and out take for air exchange to the shelter, with a offhanded comment about not being dumb, design for fresh air.
I was a fan of the owl house too. "who ripped off my likeness...who!?"
I only had the book for a short while, but the ideas in your work resignated with me. there is something bigger in the ideas you present to the world and I hope more people can catch on to riding that wave of thought.

Poor old Klein wirestrippers need a good rub down with solvent followed by oil... Good trick for preserving a used can of spray foam.. I've always manually cleaned the straws and the nozzles the old fashioned way of picking and pushing the stuff out before it gels..

Just spray some carb cleaner or brake cleaner through the straw, and do the same to clean out the nozzle on the can.

Could have used this trick the other day...ended up juat spraying the remainder of the can all over like silly string...cause why not. I thought turning the can upside down and clearing the nozzle but it didnt really work. It does unclog the straw though.

I've used acetone to clean out the straw. What I really try to do is get EVERYTHING (haunt props mostly), I want to get it on, into or what not all ready and get it all at once. Of course I do miss something (ain't that always the way? lol), so if I do happen to have some left, OR hafta bust out another can, I do try to salvage it. I like the match stick idea tho. 🙂

I do the same. Try to line up all your projects/needs at once and just use the whole damn can- where possible.

What if the foam in the tube has cured. Will acetone or lacquer thinner clear the tube then. Thanks for posting.

I've heard that Acetone works great. Also, if needed, Amazon sells replacement straws (like 30 for $10)

@@jennd8935 It's been 3 months but I think I used Brake cleaner, lacquer thinner or mineral spirits. Worked great. I always cleaned it as soon as I felt like I was through for a while. If they hadn't worked I would have use the acetone I have for tough cases.

Because there are people who don't need a whole can of spray foam all up front, and if you don't have a method to clean the can it all gets wasted because it clogs. This allows people to use the spray foam as needed, store it, and then use it again down the road.
