    Sally Lynn, I’m so excited to finally have a way to make transfer from an inkjet printer or a newsprint. I now have so many ideas roaming my mind of what I can create with my gel plates. I am so pleased that you experienced a “happy accident” and chose to take it a step further. Thanks so very much

    As others have alluded to in the comments, the printer/ink used to print on Yupo, is obviously the key here - I have two which are both dye-ink printers (one is an HP which I use mainly for admin type printing and the other is Canon Pro100s, for art based prints). Neither of these can make a successful print on Yupo; the ink will not sit on the surface, it just beads straight off.
    I have a feeling that sally is using a printer with pigment inks, which are vastly more expensive (as are the printers that take them).
    Any info from your side on this would be great, Sally.
    Thanks for all your work here.

    Sally Lynn, you ARE the gel press whisperer!
    I am so intimidated by the gel press. I don't know why. I love the results people get. I just haven't found my niche. I still have my failures pinned up on my wall because I wanted it to work SO bad. I guess I didn't understand Yupo. Anyway, thank you for your videos. I saw someone sort of struggling with doing gel press and I thought "What she needs is to watch some Sally Ann MacDonald!". LOL. Be well.
    p.s Just more info. I have a HP Envy Photo inkjet printer. I printed off a Harper's Bazaar 19th century image page onto Yupo. It printed beautifully. Then I did my gel plate transfer. The pulls that I got were faint, blurry, and for some reason the faces of the ladies picked up ink, so it was unusable. I also printed off a photograph of my cat on Yupo paper. The ink beaded up, and it never dried. It is pinned to my wall and inow, months later, f I walk by I can still rub it with my finger and the ink will come off. I have no idea why the two results were different with the same printer.

    Well, I had a heck of a time getting the Yupo paper to print on my HP 4650. Maybe the Yupo was too thick?? The printer would jam and stop and I had to reset the paper. Then I tried loading just the Yupo paper and the sheet ended up in the middle of my printer and I couldn't even see it. So I added regular paper again and did a print and the Yupo paper came out. But................the image was blurred and smeared kind of. So I pressed it on the gel plate anyway and I did get a print out of it. The first one was kind of a mess. The second one was good. The 3rd press was lighter than the 2nd. I'll keep playing with it. I wonder what would happen if I use transparency sheets for an inkjet. I'm going to try it. And one question for you........The Yupo paper I had is a medium weight. What kind of Yupo paper did you use. And thank you for teaching all of use this technique.

    • @SallyLynnMacDonald
      @SallyLynnMacDonald 2 года назад +1

      The paper I used is Yupo Translucent. I don't know the weight, but I would suggest trying that. Also, if there is any other paper in your inkjet paper tray, remove it and only have the one sheet of Yupo there to pick up.

    Hi, I’ve just bought the “gel press” gel plate and nothing is transferring to it. I followed your 2nd technique exactly, for the black and white inkjet print but no transfer. I left prints on for varying amounts of time, from 8 to 15 minutes but no luck. I then tried them 3rd technique but again no transfer. Is there something wrong with my gel plate? Thanks

    • @GelPress
      @GelPress  5 лет назад +2

      @sallylynnmacdonald uses an inkjet printer, an HP 4630 or 5600. Tricolor and black cartridges only. It doesn't work with the kind of printers that have multiple color cartridges, such as Epson photo printers. The key is NOT A LASER printer.

    Hi. I had partial color inkjet transfer with parchment paper. Thanks. Not all color transferred. I was able to attach the parchment with electrical tape. What brand/type of tape do use with parchment paper? I haven’t yet tried your 2 step process. For leather what type/brand of Yupo do you use. Yupo says most of their papers are not to be used with a inkjet. Maybe it doesn’t matter for the gel plate process?

    Yupo paper DIY alternative:
    paint a layer of gel medium on top of regular or watercolor paper. The gel medium, once dried will make the paper water-resistant. To make an alternative to yupo paper, paint a layer of gel medium, using a soft brush so you don't risk damaging the paper.
    How to recover a damaged Gelli ( home made w gelatin )
    The damaged Gelli plate can be remade by removing any residual paint on the surface with baby wipes and then put it in a glass or ceramic bowl in the microwave on high for 2 minutes until fully melted. Then pour the hot liquid into a glass or ceramic baking dish and then stick it in the fridge for 2 - 3 hours. Just slowly peel back the edges and then finally a corner and slowly pull the Gelli out of its mold. Et voila - a new Gelli plate. There are recipes on the internet of how to make your own Gelli's for cheap and the description of this procedure is complete so seek them out - there are many small details.

      I damaged my Gelli by trying glossy photo paper which just stuck to the Gelli big time. just curious - in your experience are you seeing better transfers on better tooth paper? ie copy paper versus drawing paper?

    • @SallyLynnMacDonald
      @SallyLynnMacDonald 2 года назад +1

      I have noticed that if the paper you are transfering to has a lot of recycled content it doesn't transfer well. And if you are transferring to a textured surface, like watercolor paper, with all those lovely 'pillows' in the texture you have to press really hard to get it into the nooks and crannies - but it does work. Transferring to fabric is the absolute hardest; although I've had good results with silk (but that is an expensive experiment!)

      @@GelPress Dear Sally! I got my Gel Press today! YEAH! I got it from amazon and it's an 8x10 Gel Press. I was so excited to try my gel press out,but I was dissapointed very soon! I love Image transfers,especially for my diary/journal. My parchment paper was rolling so much,that it stuck in my inkjet printer although I taped it on a piece of regular printer paper. So I tried to print my picture on a sanded top clear part of a page divider, it printed very well,but as soon as I put it on the Gel Press, the ink totally smeared all around! I have still a couple sticker labels, but the back part that I would need is not one single sheet, it has 3 or 4 thin cuts on it. I just spend all my money to get my Gel Press, but would you suggest me to do now how to transfer, dear Sally? Would an unprepared plane plastic divider work or with my baking paper glue it fully down on a copy paper; we only have those here in rolls in Germany and they are brown. I can't afford Yupo paper. Please help me,dearest Sally what options I have that worked? I want to have fun with my Gel Press! It is your self engineered Gel Press, the Original! I had way cheaper options, but I wanted yours,cause I like and trust you and cause I knew you would help me with any problem I might have with the Gel Press! Please help me out and give me some suggestions or options. Already thank you,dearest Sally! Be blessed! Lots of Love from me, Manuela from Germany, to you dear Sally! Take care!

    I have watched this multiple times - can't get this to work! Dry print or super light gesso before print as I have seen others do. The only way I even got a hint of inkjet ink was if I wet the the back of the copy paper on a clean plate and left it on the plate for a while and then finally dried it ----- tried black and white and color inkjet also ----- so frustrated. So far, no magazine prints to work either ------ the inkjet dries quickly.

    Dearest Sally! I finally got my Gel Press! I actually got it from amazon here! I do not have much money, so I got myself an 8x10inch Gel Press! But I have a problem, dear Sally! I made gorgeous backgrounds with the Gel Press for Artist Trading Cards and to personalize them I want to transfer a picture of me on top of them with the Gel Press. I have no Yupo paper and can't afford it,even though I know I just need one sheet that I can use over and over again. Unfortunatly they don't sell single sheets! I tried to print with my inkjet printer on a piece of baking paper, attached it to a copy paper but the baking paper stuck in my printer! We have rolled sheets of baking paper in Germany and they are brown. I tried to lay heavy things on my baking paper for days, but it still rolls together. Can you please help me, how to get my picture transfered with my Gel Press, without loosing my gorgeous backgrounds I made with my Gel Press, dearest Sally? What do you suggest me? I had way cheaper options with other Gelli Plates, but I wanted yours, the Original because I knew that if I have a problem with something with my Gel Press, I can always ask YOU for help and that you will not let me down! I tried to make a full color print on a plastic divider and as soon as I layed it on my Gel Press the ink was floating and smearing all over my Gel Press. It was a plastic divider that I had sanded down. Please dearest Sally, help me out with that problem! I would really appreciate it very, very much! Be blessed! Lots of Love from me, Manuela from Germany , to you dearest Sally!
