I got locked out of a popular social media account about 3 years ago because I had a Javascript blocker and login failed too many times so they locked me out... It wasn't until about a month ago that i got back in. I already feel burdened and its taking too much of my time away
I went through a spiral of wanting a dumb phone but wanting it to have smart features. I finally discovered that the best solution is to delete all unnecessary apps and ask someone trusted to put a block on your smart phone so you can’t access them. I have been without social media for like a year and I have done so many things. Whenever I want to use apps I just grab my iPad which does have access to social media but of course I don’t take my iPad everywhere. Additionally, prior to deleting all apps I switch to a mini phone. In my case an iPhone 13 mini, but it could also be an android. This makes it more convenient to carry and very uncomfortable to watch whatever on because its so tiny. I also started treating my phone like something that has to serve me instead of me serving it. I am not considering its resale value because the idea es to never sell it. This phone has to turn to dust before I even consider switching. So now I decorate it with stickers and make it much more fun and careless to use. These are the only apps my phone has: phone, WhatsApp, photos, clock, settings, weather, mail, health, safari, Spotify, g. Maps, my bank, home, calendar and messages (even though I don’t use it). It also has the option to open the camera and calculator.
I feel like you could still use your old phone as a Camera/social media devise. But there's a way to use them without getting addicted. If you don't have data on your old device then you can only upload photos when your at home. I have a smartphone but I don't have data. So I rarely actually use my phone. I use it as a video game machine when I'm stuck waiting for something.
that is definitely something I considered, and could work for some people! personally I found it too time consuming to get everything to work with the mac (which I do a lot of my work on), and it was just easier to stick with the iPhone. it's definitely a conscious effort to make to not use it so much though!
This is a fun idea and I like this movement to simplify life. My command over the English language has declined since I've allowed screen time to take over my reading time. I've debated getting a modernized Nokia flip or brick phone for days that I want less connection to the world. I think I'll do just that.
the one thing i wish for in a new android is a smaller screen. Every screen out there seems to be over 6 inches and thats because people have stopped using computers. I have a computer for computing reasons i only need limited internet when I am away from home. Large screens make it difficult to carry in your pocket. Also i always wonder if i was injured in a car accident i could not use a touch screen to call for help.. difficult considerations.. nothing seems perfect.
Hi @Chloe🎉, This video was really nice. I hope you continue and keep enjoying while creating them.❤ I am also looking for an android dumbphone now, please recommend me a good one which I can use daily and that doesn't heat much😅. Thanks Again.
im on yeasr 4 with my light phone 2 do the stuff you need on your laptop do you need that stuff in your pocket 24/7 and i have the light phone 3 on preorder
the old style of texting is called T9. lmao im in my early 30s and my first few phones were T9. i didnt get a smart phone until college in like 2012😂 where did you buy your ear buds case?
great video! maybe i missed it but i wanted to ask if google maps worked with this? considering the switch due to my addiction online but im always travelling!
I wanted to have that phone. But it's too expensive. I can live with that phone as I'm not using phone that much and when I'm at house i'm more on using my old laptop, besides I'm missing my old sony ericsson flip phone.
This is silly and is false advertising. That is NOT a dumb phone. In fact, its better than any feature phone. Its running Android...🤦🏿♂️. You just switched to an Android phone. You're not detoxing from anything since you have access to all the apps and emails. Voice dictation is also a thing so you don't have to use the keyboard if you dont want to. People were freakishly fast on T9 back in the day so it would just take a little while for you to get good so you'll want to text soon. If you're an alcoholic you just switched from Jim Beans to Jack Daniels 🤦🏿♂️. You didn't quit anything. Your needs also shows us that you still need a smartphone. What you could have tried if you were truly trying to use a less capable phone was a feature phone running kai OS and a stand alone digital camera but you probbably couldn't do it. Just go practice self control and get off of soacial media and go back to your iPhone because you're clearly not a fan of Android. Also, the difference in image quality when uploaded to your garbage social media sites is because those companies create sub par apps for Android and in the past, though i think they're still doing this, they'd just take a screenshot instead of using the actual photo that you took.
Damn, so negative over someone else's phone you had to type a whole paragraph over it lol. I think YOU are the one who should take a break from social media and learn self control. It might not be a dumbphone but it still functions as a good phone that doesn't distract you that much unlike most modern smartphones that look like tablets, that's the point of the video. Touch some grass, please.
@jay.poison you hypocrite, you also wrote, "a whole paragraph". Was there anything wrong with what I wrote? Did you learn something from what I wrote? Others agreed and others scrolled along. You decided to reply and had nothing to add. You also can't even claim that I'm wrong in my assessment. Yeah, it was harsh but I bet she learned something as well. Many people are looking for answers to this topic and her's wasn't even on topic. You're telling me to go touch grass and yet here you are 🤣. You're some sort of cl0wn.
thanks for your comment - but did you finish watching the video? i did in fact switch back to an iPhone, and I did mention that because of work reasons I have to have specific apps :) this was not meant to be a detox - it was meant to be a trial to see if it would work with my lifestyle, and it did not. let's agree to disagree about the definition of a dumbphone, but you are making too many assumptions about me based on... what? if you had constructive criticism i would gladly be open to it but your comment was just plain rude. have a better day ;)
@cloyeeee Agree to disagree? Sweet heart, your definition is either correct or incorrect. It is not something that is up for debate. Politics is up for debate. Grape juice tastes better than grape drink is up for debate. Preferring the cold over warm weather is up for debate. Intel is better than AMD is up for debate. My degree is in this field of technology; take the correction instead of wallowing in your feelings. Does it hurt you that badly to be wrong? That phone is not a dumb phone and your misguided views will mislead others that see your misinformed video. That is an Android smartphone. Dumb phones ran far less capable operating systems and just did less. It can't be a dumb phone if it's utilizing the same Operating System as other smartphones such as an Xperia or Galaxy S. The only thing different about it is its form factor. It can't be a dumb phone and be able to outdo your iPhone in many aspects such as even true multi threaded multitasking. This isn't an opinion; this is a fact. Feature phones do more than dumb phones and less than smartphones and in the past, had special features that made them stand out. Symbian 40 and Kai OS would be examples of that. I suggest you go read up on what a smartphone is. Start from the 90s and work your way up. Back then phones and smartphones came in more form factors than glass slabs. Go educate yourself. There's far too much information on the topic that is readily available for you to be this woefully misinformed. I watched your whole video but safely made a correct conclusion and recommendation before even finishing it. Doesn't that tell you something?
social media detox really is AMAZING you are right, the old days were better

I didn't expect the camera quality to actually look that good

Chloe: "This looks like my grandmothers phone"
Me: Cries internally cause this was my first phone in 2009 😭☠️

Now I want to have the same experience. Definitely will consider buying one specially the time that I will review for the Bar Examination.
omg this is such a educational vid maybe I should get a flip too 😭
I’ve been thinking about doing this (again), but only using my phone for work! This helped me remember the YEARS I had with my flip phone :)

I love how we kinda upgraded a brick phone to a dumb phone 😭 i rmbr i would be teased during my teens...

Balance.
