    Jason,
    I just bought a SK470 XL -15 ft. I'm setting it up for fishing. It's not my first, I've had an SK430 -14ft w a 3.5 hp merc - Tohatsu, for 14 years with no problems. Like you, I've developed my own preferences to design some efficiency and comfort features. I appreciate your ideas. I would like to build a simple cockpit with a flat dashboard in 180 degree access of my equip. When dealing w my 14 ft, I learned to try and organize well in a small tight space. I'm using 1/2 in marine plywood horse shoe frame, w a simple fold down seat and mounting rod holders on each side of me for trolling, and extra rodholders for horizontal storage when en route. You are right about the longer paddles. I made my own 2 sets about 10 yrs ago and they worked better than the oars, especially down river with two people paddling, and just light manuevering. Thanks for your ideas. Jim

    Hi!
    Have you snagged your fishing hooks in the boat? I'm curious how strong the boat material is. Do you think it's easy to puncture holes with treble hooks or any fishing hooks?
    Thanks!

    • @FishingtheLoneStar
      @FishingtheLoneStar  4 года назад +2

      J7 Pro - the boat is actually made for rafting in rivers, and I believe even rated for Alaskan rivers and waters. It’s extremely durable. A hook would not really ever be something I would worry about. It would take an intentional force to put a hole in one.

      Joseph Ybarra - this particular model (SK385XL) is rated for a 10 hp motor. I’ve only used a trolling motor, but I’ve seen many people use up to a 10 hp. Some of the larger models hold bigger engines. This size has been perfect for me though!

      @@FishingtheLoneStar I beg to differ . I took mine on a simple float trip and while putting the aluminum seat in it caused a pin hole that leaked air over night . Not something I expected but it did happen and that wasn't near as sharp as a hook . I'm also thinking of cutting the fins off as I dont use a motor and they hang up on everything including my truck tailgate when leaving it inflated for transport .

    • @FishingtheLoneStar
      @FishingtheLoneStar  4 года назад

      It’s hard to say how long the battery will run, because it all depends on the size of battery and how much weight is in the boat, and how long straight you are running it.
      For the license, that likely depends on where you live. In Texas you just have to register the boat if it has a motor.

    Hello!
    I've been looking into Saturn boats and I was wondering if there's a big difference between the kaboat (now they have wider ones too) VS other Saturn boats? Isn't kaboat pretty much as same as other Saturn boats except kaboat is more narrow? I'm stuck between which one to get....
    Also, is it possible for you to do a video of deflating the boat? How long it takes, shows if it's really easy to pack them back, etc... One last question, do you need to pull it out of the bag and lay it open when you get home so it dries out (no mold)?
    Thank you so much for your helpful videos!

    • @FishingtheLoneStar
      @FishingtheLoneStar  4 года назад +1

      J7 Pro - In regards to deflating it, it’s pretty simple, and I can definitely do a video. I always figured no one wanted to see that part. I’ll get on it though.
      As far as the differences, yes, it’s mainly width and size, but overall weight as well. I’ve found this one was a good size for both fishing from, and also storing/transporting. It fits in the backseat of my Camry. When I was trying to determine which to purchase, that’s what I boiled it down to at least.
      Hope that helps, and I’ll post an deflating vid. I just dry it with a towel when I’m done on the water, and before putting back in the bag.

      Rhonda Moraca - In the bag, laying flat, it’s almost 4 ft long, 16 inches high, and about 26 inches deep. I would think it would fit. I slide the passenger seat forward a tad in my Camry, and it stands/lays in the backseat on the passenger side, so I can still put the cooler I sit on in the backseat drivers side.

    Love the boat man! Thanks a lot for posting these videos! I was looking into a regular plastic kayak for myself and my 6 yo twins, but I'm really liking the portability, stability and mod-ability(if that's even a word) of this inflatable boat. And having young kids, I was concerned about how rugged the rubber would be, but you covered that in a previous video too. For $1,300 and all you got here, not bad at all. What are your thoughts for adding a bigger battery in the front so the motor lasts longer?

    • @FishingtheLoneStar
      @FishingtheLoneStar  5 лет назад

      Yeah, it’s hard to beat the price, and I love that I can store it on a shelf or even in a closet. My next “add/mod” will be to get a battery box with ports, and likely a second one to have as a back up. It would be mainly used for trips that I have to go further than normal, or if someone is going with me. I haven’t had any batteries problems outside of that. I also want to add a “spike it” pole and mount to the back, similar to a power pole, but without the power. Stay tuned! 😊

That will fit inside, and give you a decent height to sit a bit higher in the Kaboat. As for the rod holders, I think they are just a generic set of 3 I got from Academy or Amazon. Bought two, then bolted them on the side of a crate I also picked up from Academy. Let me know if you need more specifics.

    How do those wheels perform on dry sand?

      I’ve really only tried them across grass, but they should be thick enough tires to work, but I can’t say for certain.

      An ancient Igloo. Lol. I think it’s 18 inches wide/deep, and 20 inches tall.

    Put a roof rack on and you don't have to air it up or down to travel to water.

      shawn moore - I have a roof rack on my suv, but I still don’t want to have to store it blown up. It also last longer if deflated in between uses.

      What's the air pump you use? Electric, or anything without having to use a manual. I don't mind paying for something good and a bit more expensive. Possibly one that I don't have to hook up with cables to my SUV. Thanks again and great video..nice rig setup too.

    • @FishingtheLoneStar

      Brad Creber - I actually just use a pump that goes to an air mattress at home. It blows enough air into the chambers to get them 90% there, then I top it off with the hand pump that the boat comes with. I have an adapter I plug into my car, and run a small extension cord from there to the boat.
