Another tip that I missed in this video: If you are too vital in your position, make sure you do knowledge transfer if possible to other team members, promoting you away from your duties must not leave a hole in the place you were. However, I agree with all the tips in this video.
Good tips and great video Josh. Although I vehemently disagree with the idea of climbing the corporate ladder, and prefer to switch jobs when convenient for higher pay, I can appreciate those that are willing to stick around and grow. Obviously, this is specific to each industry and somewhere like banking/finance where executive positions are more prevalent, this makes a lot of sense.
Solid advice, Josh. Thanks for sharing! Guess I'll start by putting an end to my walking around the office chanting "I can do whatever the f*** I want" like Homelander.
Hey Josh, just found this channel via your tech channel. I'm at a cross-roads in my career and your videos are really insightful. Hoping for more uploads soon. Cheers!
Wow, Josh. Came here from the Just Josh Tech channel, incredible quality I must say and very good advice! The way you speak and approach the camera is almost uncanny
Hi Josh, really appreciate you sharing your knowledge on subject. Its extremely valuable. Today I asked my boss for a pay increase and used some of the tips you provides here to assist in the way I communicated. It went well and now they are in the process of figuring out how big the increase can be. Thank you so much.
Highly appreciate your wonderful content, Josh! Do you have any career advice for someone working as a technical leader (more specific: head of software development) in a small startup-like business? I'm already in the highest position available there, only our managing director is directly above me, so technically there aren't any promotions available. Now I'm curious what would be the best way of improving my career besides switching jobs into a larger company where more positions and therefor promotions are available. Thanks!
What is your perspective in tech where people are job hopping, this content seems towards people working at a big corporate company and not moving around. Usually this is how I have seen people been stagnant in wages but indeed getting more responsibility/stress. Where as job-hopping almost certainly gives more salary.
Is it always appropriate to seek rapid promotion? Or is there a risk of getting in over your head - which in turn might compromise your career more than an extra year waiting for promotion?
Interesting advice! Shame it feels like in my field its just way more likely to end up in contracting roles than full time positions with promotions or any paths. Last full time role I got laid off during a reorg. Feels like my career progression and salary bumps come more from jumping between companies than sticking around.

Hi Josh, I thought I would give my constructive feedback for this video. I felt like the video was a bit long-winded, i.e. it took a while to get to the different punch lines, I feel like with this kind of content people have to be hooked from the start and then guided through from that initial hook. I felt like in this case that initial hook was missing, i.e. the pacing of the video felt too linear, which doesn't seem to work so well in the fast-pace algorithmic youtube environment anymore. Hope that helps as you continue to grow this channel!
Liked the tips in the video - regardless of what many people say online I’ve found honesty and patience to be the best approach. Did you spend your entire career working at the same company?
4 companies in 20 years seems very reasonable - I tend to see many career advice “experts” on RUclips or Instagram say that switching careers every two years is the fastest way to higher salaries. Will you do a video on your thoughts about that?
@@Heisenberg-02 Hi Ash, I 100% disagree with switching every 2 years. That is a massive mistake. I will make a video specifically on this topic. If you switch that frequently that will confine you to the junior or at best mid range levels. For the top several levels you must build relationships with sponsors. That takes years to do. Also if you continue to switch every 2 years it will be a red flag during the hiring process. No one wants to invest time training someone who hops around. There are other factors too, which i'll cover in the video

If you have a jerk for a boss, I have found switching employers is a good move.
Often a good way to get a bigger raise too

This is the only business channel I've seen that is telling it like it is. This is priceless advice. Looking forward to learning more.
Very glad I could help!
Solid advice, Josh. Thanks for sharing!

Working on 2 today! Welcome btw
Well done, Josh!! To the point. There are no miracles waiting out there. It's all about consistency and patience.
Great stuff Josh, I came over from your tech channel and the quality of these videos is fantastic, great advice!
For a person coming from startup world to big corps. This is invaluable. Thank you!
I'm very glad! Lots more to come

Thanks mate, I'm definitely trying to constantly improve. Thats one of the things that keeps me passionate about this!
This was exactly at my mind today. Thanks Josh.
Wow, these are actionable tips... as i listen i can actually see them working for me, thanks Josh
Very good advice, and specific unlike other RUclipsrs who just tell you general things like work hard
Great tips! Thanks for sharing and looking forward to more.

What about switching companies and earning a higher seniority level at the same time ? i.e be junior, switch company for a mid level position.
Do it, sometimes they just won't move on your timeline. Wait for no one.
Love this. Please make more content on this channel.
More is coming for sure

Welcome. I definitely will cover that btw. Not job hopping a little slowed me down. This is just the first couple of videos though!
Saw decorilla at a pitch event, small world.
Really wow. That must have been ages ago. When was it?
@JustJoshBusiness 2017, found the deck, and see your photo there. LOL. Sounds like the entrepreneurial spirit is strong.
@@CO8848_2 Oh wow, thats amazing!!! Would love to see the deck

What field are you in?

Video regarding dress code/what to wear
Great idea
Does this apply to any industry or mostly banking? Ex: IT, Marketing, Accounting?

Wow, very interesting. Let me re watch with this in mind
A guy who used to earn $ MM wont look like Josh, he would look like a very suave casanova or a very wrinkled old man. Proceed with caution everyone 😅
Lol
When will you show us your watch collection Josh??? : )
Ha! Funnily enough the only watch I really use all the time and enjoy right now is the Garmin Fenix 7 or 7 Pro
Liked the tips in the video - regardless of what many people say online I’ve found honesty and patience to be the best approach. Did you spend your entire career working at the same company?
Thank you! 4 different companies for my corporate career. 3 banks and 1 large Tech firm.
I should have probably stated that in the video

@@JustJoshBusiness What would you suggest for the above question

Feels weird when you dont start the video with "alright tech family"...
Ha lol true. Perhaps Alright Business Family or Success Family?
first!
Honestly, those parts with random people in the office are very annoying. I would reduce their number
